"Are Women People?"

It's basically to protect the person with no or lesser income in a marriage. So say, for example you give up your career to spend more time raising the children or vice versa. you lose potential income and experience due to a joint decision. In order to keep the other member afloat the person making the money is to contribute to the other even though they are now divorced... Kind of a shitty explanation but yea.

Sorry...Hate to say it, but I kind of look down on gals who started banging out babies right away, and complain about how shitty their lives are. I really can't identify with some of my distant friends who were once close ones in high school. (Shame on me! I know.) There is one who had the tenacity and brains to finish college right away. She gets my admiration! Some are left wallowing in the tar-pit that they sank themselves in, and depend solely on child support, alimony, husbands/BFs (whatever the case may be)...I would be ashamed of myself if I couldn't at least support myself. They're handicapped. It's really sad.

WEll Men do understand that when they ejaculate inside a woman she can get pregnant right? Therefore they are making the "choice" as you call it to pay child support should a child be the result of that union.

Is this actually possible? It would be great if so. I was under the impression that it was not!

I have a very mixed and somewhat inconclusive stance on such things, on a side note - yes, pregnancy is a possible result of sex, but if both partners discuss and decide they do not in fact want children, should an accident occur, a woman still has a chance to decide to keep/lose the pregnancy. A man at this point has no control whatsoever... unless the above is true.

Whether this should be accepted as a risk or not, I am not sure.

Regardless, saying they're stuck paying isn't necessarily true. Saying they're going to go to jail for contempt for not paying isn't necessarily true.

EDIT: @Raen; Yes it is. My father was so backed up in child support he signed over his rights. My mother had the option of throwing him in jail for a month (since he wouldn't pay), but opted against it. Putting him in jail wasn't going to bring in the money either, so she just gave up on it.

My exs brother became a dad few years ago, he signed some paperwork, and now he have nothing what-so-ever to do with said child.
Idk if he ever even met the kid.

I personally say we just give out free BC and condoms to everyone and be like god damnit you little *** use these now and every single time! Although it is nowhere near as common, I have witnessed domestic violence in the reverse; the man was being abused by the woman. It goes both ways and neither is right. As some people have already pointed out, there are problems on both sides of the fence here. People need to acknowledge that there are problems on both sides and then work to fix them, otherwise we get nowhere...
Double standards are everywhere, and where some might benefit one side, they screw the other, and I mean this in both ways.

In general alimony is paid into perpetuity (or given a significant event that changes the conditions), but is taxed. Child support is untaxed but ends when the child is emancipated.

Alimony varies too. In TX you have to meet very specific guidelines and also it can last only a maximum of 10 years.

Edit: in CA I think they just rob you and take half then give the other half to the other spouse lol.

Actually no, I did now though, and it's gotta be the first time I've seen something done about it when it's reversed... Often when it's the man being abused it's not usually talked about and/or nothing is done. I refer again to my previous post though, everyone is human, and everyone should be treated as such. If I need to elaborate on that for anyone then I don't see why they are even discussing this matter, their mind is already made up and they are not for equality of any sort anyways.
