It's simple because the stuff has been around since money existed.
[It's pride in being able to do or have stuff other people can't or don't have. So much pride that it becomes arrogance.]
For example, I am the elite in collecting bottle caps and sleeping because I have obtained the heaven ascension method in collecting bottle caps while sleeping.
Or the other guy who is the elite in FFXI (or any other RPG) because he could solo XXX mob while naked or something.

ROFL how old are you man, that's amazing. I would get into it with Tahngarthor because he was sharing hosts of Dynamis for his LS and buying up currency back in 2004-2005 for relic staff so he could melee with his smn for that 8mp/tick.
But also kind of impressive things from when I was a 19-20 year old basement dweller are being held against me in my 30's as a homeowner. I like to think I have changed a little.
Also, wouldn't those who practice elitism have a better idea of elitism than those who don't? The implication at the start of your post seems to be that elitists can't talk about elitism.

lady was kind of a jerk on shiva... And he seems so much nicer now that I thought he sold his character.
so if it's possible to graduate from elitism, then congratulations...on becomming so elite that you're not an elitist any more? or soemthing...
