Someone just posted "if they havent nerfed blinkers yet, they aren't going to" in response to one of my posts (in the last month maybe?).
I wish I could recall where so I can read it again in the new context.
It was probably me that stated it. But as with everything RMT touches it was bound to fail. Every time I've converted in the past 2-3 weeks, I have seen a ton of /anon garble names standing at NPC's converting. On top of all that I now get daily 5.99 per million gil tell spams left and right lately within the same past 2-3 weeks.
It's been argued and rumored for almost what 2 years now? I'm still surprised they went through with it after this long, but if they analyzed the RMT intake and it actually proved to be that crippling to the economy then you can't argue with it.
I actually just converted cruor on 2 characters last night and I think I had a good enough run after everything is said and done. I used to spam NPC teal/aurore/perle before the second abyssea even came out. I can easily say with decent confidence I made around 400,000,000 gil in the long term over all scheme of things so this greatly affects me personally however I have other ways to make gil on the side which will now become my main source of gil.
The biggest problem I can see at this moment as a result of this is pretty much summed up in the thread amongst the past 9-10 pages. The economy will see a pretty large change soon. Most people I knew who converted cruor did it to afford dynamis currency a little at a time. Some people also did it to afford things they wanted. For example if you wanted a 5M gil HQ head then you would work a few days with VW, convert the cruor and buy it. Then you would start over and aim for a next piece of gear. It wasn't a perfect system but it worked for everyone.
You can still convert 1,000,000 cruor into 335,000 via jeuno. It's not completely dead but when you compare it to the previous 2.6M there are probably better ways to be spending your time now.
My only big fear is that dynamis and fishing will take a huge increase next as those activities were close in profitability. I highly expect dynamis to become way more crowded as people will farm for their own relics or attempt to sell currency and make gil that way instead.
In either case this economy may be in for a fun ride as we see where this goes. It effects everyone whether you converted blinkers or not. It's no different then claiming you ride a bike so gas prices don't matter to you when the food you buy rises in price due to transit costs.
