Relic Updated?
Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has heard of any plans to increase the power or base DMG on relic weapons. With all the new weapons from the latest expansion that have much higher base DMG then relics it almost seems like they are just a waste of money at the moment.
Probably not. However, I wouldn't mind if SE increased the weaponskill damage for the respective emps/relics/mythics ie Scourge
Those new weapons have a lower base damage than relics. Only their latent increases their damage beyond relics and even then, they're not better because they retain a weapon rank based on the original damage displayed.

They're talking about the Augmented Skirmish Weapons, not reive stuff. Bismarck.Altar said: » Quetzalcoatl.Scwall said: » Those new weapons have a lower base damage than relics. As in the weapons being specifically tailored to support a playstyle for the job(s) that can wield the weapon. Considering how late in the game it is and how they only mentioned 99 REMs then its pretty much safe to say that idea is dead before it was born. I was just saying that's probably what they were referring to. Thank you for the correction, though!^^ Asura.Rekin said: » Bismarck.Hsieh said: » Probably not. They'll probably just up the base damage of all the weapons and call it a day. Sorry SMNs! I don't like how SE leaves us hanging on the future of R/E/Ms... Especially the people that are building their Mythics, and they want to know if they need to stop or not.
The game is forever changing. Do what you want and make what you want. Most importantly, enjoy doing it! Look at dragoon, everyone used to laugh! If you pick the 'wrong' thing now, who knows, you might be giggling in the future!
Well maybe they'll be harder to obtain then a relic or empy. lol.
Considering you can enter and leave with one of these on your first run ever and the event itself is easy as hell, no not really. Worst part is finding statue bits.

I can't find any info on this event. BGWiki just has a Red lettered link. High base damage isn't everything, most of the weapons are still inferior to good R/E/M. Everyone's shitting themselves over essentially nothing.
Look at it this way, if you've always been thinking about picking up (DD JOB) but didn't have the time to make it a relic so it's competitive, you have potential to get a suitable replacement in one event instead of however long a relic takes you personally. (the h2h from naakual are an exception, but we don't know that they'll be as easy to obtain as skirmish weapons either) Dont know why they would upgrade the base dmg... i was under the impression the aftermath's is what took the relics over the top ... and since these weapons don't have that from what we can see i just think this is just an attempt to make those who may not have relics a little more competitive in a sense... just a though.

Most of the relic weaponskills are terrible and their aftermaths have too short a duration to be consequential. To be fair, Gungnir doesn't rely on anything: it just sucks.

Worst part is finding statue bits. Its probably still being discussed in the actual forum rather than being put onto the wiki at this stage. I am still keeping my fingers crossed for an improved evolith system that can be used on the 99 versions.
All they would have to do: Remove family specific stats Add weapon damage augments Imagine a Twastar with: Damage +8 TA +5 Crit Hit Rate +5 And similar quality augments on other REM weapons. Why would I want those when I can get Vs birds: Attack +3?
Siren.Thoraeon said: » I am still keeping my fingers crossed for an improved evolith system I hope so. After all, why should Empyrean builders have all the "camping some totally obscure NM in Pashow[S]" fun? There are already several weapons that destroy their REM counterparts.
We've seen people go in and come out with augments on their first run that hands down beat REMs for DDing on: DRK PLD RUN* MNK SMN NIN(?) SAM DRG** *RUN currently has no REM, and if they release their new mythic with stats comparable without boosting the others there will be blood. **No real reports on polearm, but you don't have to try very hard to beat DRG Relic/Empyrean, but Ryu is still pretty good. Likely outclassed however since better weapons were already outdone with 1 augment attempted. The evolith system would have to be massively overhauled to even come close. Starting with removing family bonuses, then moving into far more potent augments. Personally, I say just add REMs to the augment lists for the new weapons. Let me augment +38DMG +8STR +10% Weaponskill Damage onto my relics and I'm golden. I'm not sure about you guys, but a few weeks ago I had to tell a friend who just reactivated that he can't output enough DPS to take up a DD slot in Legion(pre-patch). That bothered me a hell of a lot more than seeing other people have competitive weapons for less effort will.
Also, in response to Brain.. if you're making use of accuracy, Ragnarok is still ahead of the GSes posted this far. If you're one of those people who like Apocalypse, then that's obviously fine. I haven't seen the GKs, but I can't see any of them beating Yoichi just due to having to use Shoha. just remember Relics were gimped by Emps for a while there till they improved relics ... the same may be about to happen again with new weapons but unless those weapons are going to be insane to level up im sure they will make changes to weapons that costs us all 100m ish each to just 95....
if you really want a weapon i would just go do it and not panic to much Still looking for the specific link, but SE already commented that REM would not go to waste. In that comment though, they will only be altering the 99 versions of these weapons, you won't need afterglow, but you will need to have the REM at level to 99 for the adjustments they are doing. I'll look around some more and link the dev post if I can find it.
Edit: here is the link, and even with [.url][./url] (take out the .) i can't get the whole link blue, send help! http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/31250-To-all-adventurers-and-pioneers!?p=410836&viewfull=1#post410836 Quote: Hello, Matsui here. We've been receiving some questions in regards to what we will be doing with relic, mythic, and empyrean weapons moving forward, so I would like to address what I can at the moment. We are not planning to enhance relic, mythic, or empyrean weapons via Trial of the Magians or through other methods. However, in regards to these weapons that you have enhanced up to level 99, we are formulating plans so that they do not go to waste. (Including the weapons that do not yet have their afterglows.) In regards to the shields and instruments, even in light of the growth that will take place for characters with Adoulin equipment, these in particular are still at the highest caliber and will not be addressed in the plans mentioned above. While I'm unable to talk about the specifics at this point in time, as soon as the time comes where I can, I will be sure to let you all know. However, instruments and shields are still top notch so they wouldn't see any change.
