Friendly RMTs - New Tactic?

I was crafting today and was suddenly spammed with a barrage of tells from a bunch of nonsense names. Ghhjhj, Assdsds, and so on. All of them level 1 newbs in starter cities. Except, instead of the usual RMT pitch, they just said "Hi." or "Hello."

WTF? Anyone else experiencing this?

some of the /tells I've been getting either end with "Have a nice day", or "Please, hurry up!"

Yeah, I've gotten those. These aren't even pitching their gold or whatnot. The tell is literally just "hi"

I usually get 2-3 at the same time from different names, so I can't even blist them cause it's always a different name. Annoying.

It may be that in the soon to released update filter for unsolicited /tells (RMT spams) that the RMT types have a "heads up" on a means to work around the filter (previous /tells, who knows?); so I'd advise /blist add for any goofy unsolicited /tells from unknowns - its all that can be done for now.

if you /blist every single RMT tell you'll run out of space by the end of the week.

I know some people who have been in parties with otherwise friendly, normal-seeming players who were later found in an RMT shell, or engaged in blatant RMT activity.

Just like regular player range from *** to dudes, so do RMT.

The best way I have found to combat these is tell people about them that may not already know. If someone says "hey I got a RMT message" I let them know about the current scam.

If I /blist them than my /blist is not usefull for what its for which is blocking out annoying players. Ignoring and forgetting is maybe best.

Way back in 2005, I got an invite to what I thought was a normal party. Only, when I got there, I noticed something was off.
They cast at exactly the same time, were all the same rank, all wearing the same gear (minus a few vital things), and all of them rested or moved at the same time.
They didn't reply in English, nor Japanese, nor any other language I tried. And when the party was done, one of them (I'm guessing there was only 1 person) said in very poor English that they were happy to meet me, and thanked me for helping them out. Then they all bowed in unison and he offered to trade me 100k... I turned it down.

I hav been recently bombarded with RMT /tells since I've switched to the server. I think it's funny that I come from Bahamut which is infamous for RMT and I think I received 2 or 3 /tells in the two years I was there and in the two weeks I've been on Phoenix I get 2 or 3 a day. It's freakin ridiculous.

though, all in all. It's not their fault for finding retards who actually buy accounts and/or Gil. If no one baught it they wouldn't exist. If no one partied with them they wouldn't have leveled. It's the weak minded, pathetic, cry babies who are ruining this game.

well, I dunno about today but a long time ago, RMT used to still be actual people behind the characters, just like you and me.

I made friends with a few RMT during my time mining in Mount Zhayolm. On numerous occasions they would trade me Iron Ores, free of charge, simply because their starting inventories (from the lv25 whm mule they took out mining) couldnt hold the unstackable items. We couldn't really communicate well with each other, but managed to get by through simple emotes and a few broken /say conversations. I'd craft his Iron Ores into ingots, then run off to continue mining. The next time our paths crossed, he's trade me again.

This didnt really stop me from emailing his name (amongst many others) to the STF, but it just kinda proved that even though RMT are a little taboo in our online society... they're still just real people playing a video game, and are susceptible to the same actions and responses as any other human being playing the game.
