The purpose of this thread is to have a central location to report "Localization Errors", A.K.A. Typos, that exist in the English client of Final Fantasy XI. There is a localization subforum on the official forum, but given that many players are banned from the OF, we need somewhere else to report these.

As an example, the most common localization error are statistics that are missing from pieces of equipment on the English client, but are present in the Japanese client.

Please post a reply to this thread if there is an error in-game, especially on equipment statistics, that is not in the OP below. I will keep the OP up to date after verifying reports. Once we get a good sized list going, I will report them on the official forum as a community representative recommended to me. Maybe we will be surprised and they will keep an eye on this thread for us.

Last Update - Added January 19th, 2022

Previous Update - Added September 24th, 2021

Previous Update #2 - Added August 9th, 2021

Very important errors
The errors in this section should be addressed immediately. Some examples include statistics that do not match the Japanese client, names that do not match in a players inventory and in the log, and even pertinent information causing an item not to work if it is not known.

Armor Errors

Armor Names

  • Thunderer's Mantle (ID: 16237) - Item short name (inventory name) is displayed as "Thunderer Mantle".

Armor Descriptions

  • Ankusa Jackcoat +1 (ID: 26817) - "Magic Accuracy+64" should be "Magic Evasion+64"

Weapon Errors

Weapon Names

  • No reported errors active/All errors fixed!

Weapon Descriptions

  • Hocho (ID: 16924) - Missing text
"Main hand only" designation is not on the English version. This is shown on the Japanese version, and needs to be fixed so players do not assume they are getting extra skill that they do not actually receive.

General Item Errors

General Item Name Errors

  • Lynx Collar (ID: 2545)- item shortname is "Lynx collars", should be "Lynx collar".

  • Fire Crest Card (ID: 9764) - upon changing the name, the singular log name is now "fire crestcard" and it needs a space.

General Item Description Errors

  • No reported errors active/All errors fixed!

Usable Items

Item Name Errors

  • The Geomancy spells "Aera" and "Aera II" have matching scrolls whos item names and descriptions are misspelled.

Scroll of Aerora (Item ID: 4920) teaches the spell "Aerora"

Scroll of Aerora II (Item ID: 4921) teaches the spell "Aerora II"

The names and descriptions of these scrolls should read "Aera"/"Aera II"NOT "Aerora" and "Aerora II".

Item Description Errors

  • No reported errors active/All errors fixed!

Dialogue Tables

Quests

  • The base Mythic weapon obtainment quest (Forging a New Myth) starting cutscene refers to a particular NPC as both Zarafeehl (three times) and Zaragfeehl.

  • Quest: Trial by Ice - Gulmama in Northern Sandy says "The improved tuning fork was used by that rougue...?" for some reason, which should instead be "rogue"

  • If you speak to Coelestrox repeatedly while a +3 reforge is in progress, you will eventually be asked if you want to cancel the process. The resulting dialogue box contains a punctuation typo ("/" should be "." or possibly "!").

Battle Log

  • When you use a Blood pact: Rage that heals the target, the chat message instead show that the healed is the actor of the blood pact.
Example: Ramuh uses Volt Strike. Ramuh recovers 15634 HP.
    Note: Probably affects all pets

  • Ballista Marshall mentions there being chevron for each of the 20 jobs, run and geo also had them added so it should say 22 now

OTHER

  • Synthesis Menu
After initializing a synthesis with a crystal, craft levels are not shown in the English client like they are in the Japanese client.

  • Config > Log > Window 1 > For Self - Help Text on top menu says
Desginate which messages related to yourself appear in which window. Only active when multiple log windows are displayed.
    SHOULD BE
    Designate

  • Config > Log > Window 2 > For Self - Help Text on top menu says
Desginate which system-related messages appear in which window. Only active when multiple windows are displayed.
    SHOULD BE
    Designate

  • Main Menu > Second Menu > View House > Mog Safe - Help Text on top menu says
View contents of Mog Safe. Items can only be removed or stores when inside your Mog House or Rent-a-Room.
    SHOULD BE
View contents of Mog Safe. Items can only be removed or stores when inside your Mog House.

Notably, Mog Safe/Mog Safe 2 are accessible via Nomad Moogle, but Storage is not, even though it says the exact same help text too.

  • Corrosive Ooze pet ability from the pet Generous Arthur says in the tooltip that the move deals fire damage when it is very clearly water damage.

  • Misleading objective text in Omen:
"Vanquish X foes." should be "Vanquish Sweetwater foes X times."
"Perform X skillchains using weaponskills on your foes." should be "Perform X consecutive skillchains using weaponskills on your foes."
"Reduce your foe's HP by at least 15000 using a single magic attack without performing a magic burst." requires clarification that pet abilities don't count, though I don't have a good suggestion on wording (maybe "using magic" as an analog to "using weaponskills"?).

On the second floor of Omen, the Ethereal Ingress gives the somewhat confusing options to "Go into the light" or "Go into the smaller light", the latter heading toward the figuratively "bigger" boss as well as a literally larger floor. This is a somewhat subtle mistranslation. The name of the smaller light in Japanese is 詰みの光, and while 「詰」 can indeed mean "compressed", "compact", "pressured", and the like, in this case it clearly carries the word's other common meaning of "checkmate", as all Omen bosses are named after shogi pieces and Ou is the king. Thus, the "smaller light" should in fact be named the "checkmate light", which would be far less confusing and error-prone.

  • The help text for the Afterglow status effect contains the word "effect." twice.

  • Numbing Noise pet ability from the pet Suspicious Alice says in the tooltip that the move deals damage when it only inflicts Stun effect.

Predatory Glare pet ability from the pet Tiger Familiar, Saber Siravarde, and Blackbeard Randy says in the tooltip that the move deals damage when it only inflicts Stun effect. (These should probably say "Duration varies with TP.")

Wild Carrot pet ability from the pet Hare Familiar, Keeneared Steffi, Lucky Lulush, Droopy Dortwin, and Pondering Peter says in the tooltip that the move deals damage when it only restores HP. To be consistent with WS descriptions (like Dagan), it should read as "Amount restored varies with TP."

Crossthrash pet ability from the pet Tiger Familiar, Saber Siravarde, and Blackbeard Randy says in the tooltip that "Damage varies with TP" even though damage is the same at all TP amounts.

Mega Scissors pet ability from the pet Porter Crab Familiar and Jovial Edwin says in the tooltip that "Damage varies with TP" even though damage is the same at all TP amounts.

Hoof Volley pet ability from the pet Hippogryph Familiar and Daring Roland says in the tooltip that "Damage varies with TP" even though damage is the same at all TP amounts.

  • On the Sheol Gaol Check Status page, most of the NMs are set up like:

    (name): Veng.: (level) RP: (RP)

However, Arebati lacks a space after RP:

  • Blade: Shun's description should be attack varies with TP.

  • Shattersoul's description should be chance of magic def. down effect varies with TP. The English description says it's 3 hit and the JP I think says it's 4 hit.

  • Having more than 1000 RoE completed overflows the space available in the RoE window. This error is present WITHOUT .DAT mods too.

  • The menu for purchasing ISNM KI's from the NPC Shajaf has typos. It says the following:

It should read "3000 IS: Level 75 offer", which would be an abbreviation for Imperial Standing.

  • The title for killing Arebati has a typo:
Arepati Assaulter should be Arebati Assaulter

Inconsistency Errors
The following errors exist across pieces or "sets" of armor. Examples include naming inconsistencies, and especially different item description inconsistencies. These should be fixed for English player's convenience and to alleviate confusion.

Armor Inconsistency

Armor Names

  • The following DRK Relic Hands are called "Finger Gauntlets" when no other Dark Knight hand Artifact/Relic/Empyrean pieces are called "Finger Gauntlets", only "Gauntlets":
    Fall. Fin. Gaunt. (ID: 26990)
Fall. Fin. Gaunt. +1 (ID: 26991)
Fall. Fin. Gaunt. +2 (ID: 23204)
Fall. Fin. Gaunt. +3 (ID: 23539)

Armor Descriptions
  • Inconsistent text between Orvail ring (ID: 27591) and Orvail ring +1 (ID: 26203) - The lines "Increases rate of synthesis success by %" and "Decreases likelihood of synthesis material loss +%" are swapped.

  • Sandogasa +1 (ID: 23754) - There is no space between "{{Ice}}+10" and "{{Water}}+10"

  • "Trick Attack +" statistic switches back and forth between "Trick Attack" damage +X and "Trick Attack"+X.

All of the below items should be switched to "Trick Attack"+X for consistency:

    *Pillager's Armlets (ID: 27948)
    *Pillager's Armlets +1 (ID: 27969)
    *Pillager's Armlets +2 (ID: 23179)
    *Pillager's Armlets +3 (ID: 23514)
    *Plunderer's Vest +2 (ID: 23135)
    *Plunderer's Vest +3 (ID: 23470)

  • Epona's Ring (ID: 11651) and Ambuscade Ring (ID: 10782)
Neither ring has quotes around Double Attack. They should both read as "Double Attack".

  • Staunch Tathlum/+1 (ID: 22278 & 22279)
Reads as "Spellcasting interruption", all other gear that gives this stat is "Spell interruption".

  • Summoner Ammo Pieces:
Convocaller (ID: 21387) and Dashavatara Sachet (ID: 21388) - Description says "Avatar Lv." when all other similar items have a colon: "Avatar: Lv."

Sancus sachet (ID: 21394) and Sancus Sachet +1 (ID: 21395) - Description says "Avatar: Lv119" when the majority of other items are written with a "." and a space: "Avatar: Lv. 119"

Epitaph (ID: 21432) - Description says "Avatar: Lv.119", should read "Avatar: Lv. 119" for uniformity.

  • Nyame Armor Set:
Nyame Gauntlets (ID: 23775) - No space is between "Magic Atk. Bonus" and the "+30". Most other items, including the other pieces of the set have it.
Nyame Gauntlets (ID: 23775) - Evasion is abbreviated as Eva. for physical and magical evasion, but the rest of the set (except feet) does not abbreviate Evasion.
Nyame Flanchard (ID: 23782) - There is a space between "Attack" and "+30", other items do not have a space between these.
Nyame Helm (ID: 23761) - The "Pet: Accuracy" stat does not abbreviate "Accuracy" to "Acc.", like the other pieces of the set.
Nyame Sollerets (ID: 23789) - Evasion is abbreviated as Eva. for physical and magical evasion, but the rest of the set (except hands) does not abbreviate Evasion.
Nyame Sollerets (ID: 23789) - States "Magic Accracy+40", typo should be Magic Accuracy+40

  • The job ability "Cover" has multiple wording variations across JA/Menus/equipment that enhance the ability:
    Uses: "Cover"+X
    (20728) Kheshig Blade
    (16604) Save the Queen

    Uses: "Cover" duration +X
    (21641) Save the Queen III

    Uses: "Cover" effect duration +X
    (23381) Reverence Coronet +3
    (23046) Reverence Coronet +2
    (27690) Reverence Coronet +1

    Merits
    Uses: Cover Effect Length

    Job Points:
    Uses: Cover Duration

Seems they also do a split on Japanese text too:
    (20728) Kheshig Blade
    (16604) Save the Queen
    Uses: かばう+X (Google translate: Cover+X)

    (21641) Save the Queen III
    (23381) Reverence Coronet +3
    (23046) Reverence Coronet +2
    (27690) Reverence Coronet +1
    Merits
Uses: かばう効果時間+X (Google translate: Cover effect time+X)

    Job Points
Uses: かばう効果時間延長 (Google translate: Protecting effect time extension)

  • Endorsement Ring (ID: 28469) description reads "720 minutes" as the effect time, but all other rings read "xxx min."

  • Nantosuelta's Cape (ID: 26266)
    Read as: Indicolure effect duration
Should read as: "Indicolure" duration +X.

  • Bagua Pants/+1/+2/+3 (IDs: 27192/27193/23284/23619)
    Azimuth Gaiters/+1 (IDs: 27451/27452)
Read as: "Indicolure" spell duration +X.
Should read as: "Indicolure" duration +X.

  • Slipor Sash (ID: 10835) Read as: Magic Def. Bonus+3 Magic damage taken -3%
Should read as: "Magic Def. Bonus"+3,Magic damage taken -3%

Weapon Inconsistency

Weapon Descriptions
  • Terpsichore Lv80 (ID: 19078) - "Augment Steps II" This also appears to be an issue in the Japanese client too.
The "Augment Steps II" statistic does nothing more compared to the "Augment Steps" statistic on the Level 75 version of the weapon, so there is no "II" rank of the effect.

  • Terpsichore Lv85 (ID: 19098) - "Augment Steps III" This also appears to be an issue in the Japanese client too.
The "Augment Steps III" statistic does nothing more compared to the "Augment Steps" statistic on the Level 75 version of the weapon, so there is no "III" rank of the effect.

  • Terpsichore Lv90 & Lv95 (ID: 19630, 19728) - "Augment Steps IV" This also appears to be an issue in the Japanese client too.
The "Augment Steps IV" statistic does nothing more compared to the "Augment Steps" statistic on the Level 75 version of the weapon, so there is no "IV" rank of the effect.

  • Terpsichore Lv99, Lv99 II, Lv119, Lv 119 II, Lv 119 III (ID: 19837, 19966, 20557, 20558, 20584) - "Augment Steps V" This also appears to be an issue in the Japanese client too.
The "Augment Steps V" statistic does nothing more compared to the "Augment Steps" statistic on the Level 75 version of the weapon, so there is no "V" rank of the effect.

Here are two context threads for the Terpsichore problems. It was "fixed" before, but it broke:
    - https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/forums/71#threads/38135

  • Date Shuriken (ID: 22292)
Item Description typo: "Enmity +X -X" stats have an erroneous space between "Enmity" and "+ -".

  • Aymur (ID: 21751)
Item Description issue: DMG and Delay are on seperate lines. It should read "DMG 195 Delay 312" on the same line like all other weapons.

  • Solstice (ID: 21085)
Read as: "Indicolure" spell duration +X.
Should read as: "Indicolure" duration +X.

  • Runeist Armor Set and Runeist Armor Set +1 - These items are named "Runeist".

Runeist Armor Set +2 and Runeist Armor Set +3 - these items are named "Runeist's".

  • Crepuscular Pebble (ID: 22300) - "Physical damage cap +3%" should read as "Physical damage limit +3%" for uniformity and to prevent confusion.

General/Usable Items

Item Short Names

  • The game shows "Lu. Scale Box" (ID: 6590) & "Lu. Hide Box" (ID: 6591) for Odyssey Scales and Hides, but the wings are listed as "L. Wing Box" (ID: 6592)

  • The short name "Tr. Gr. Coffer." (ID:6292) for Tryl-Wuj's grand coffer has an erroneous trailing period.

  • Ethereal Droplet (ID: 9202)
The name in the log shows "a" when it should be "an": "a ethereal droplet"

Dialogue Tables

Quests

  • When doing the Rune Fencer AF quiz, Liement is spelled "Liemont".

  • When turning in Job Points for Oboro, on at least the Aeonic subitem, there's a space in front of Warrior.

  • There is a Unity (Shared F) objective (at least for Apururu) titled "Van. Vermin . Ph. Dmg. F (UC)" It's missing a "w"

Battle Log

  • When you fight the Goblin NM in Odyssey Sheol B, Tripix, the log appends "the" before his name and and his adds' names, despite his name being a proper beastman name.

    "Geriond defeats the Tripix."
    "Geriond defeats the Tripix's Goblin."

  • The Sheol B status report lists "Maverick_Maude" instead of "Maverick Maude" for that NM's kill count.

  • Digest pet ability from the pet Slime Familiar and Sultry Patrice is misspelled in the chatlog as "Digset".

  • Issues with Arebati from Odyssey:
    - Upon victory, the RP message refers to the NM as "Arebtai".
    - The title/designation earned for victory is "Arepati Assaulter"

  • Omen's entry dialogue is messed up, but in writing this I understand why it slipped through QA. It's a bit complicated to explain and the finer details probably didn't make it to the localization team.

Omen uses a ticketing system, so each person that registers is given a ticket with a number on it sequentially. You might see a similar system in a store or DMV where you take a number and wait instead of standing in line.

However, when you try to enter Omen, it says:
"You are currently number X in line, with Y in front of you."

In this case, if you accept the dialogue choice you will receive the number X+1, so X is the last ticket someone took. The next ticket called will always be Y+1, so Y is the last ticket that entered. That's very confusing, because if you imagine it saying:
"You are currently number 460 in line, with 456 in front of you." it sounds like you have a very long wait ahead of you but actually only 5 tickets need to be called (457, 458, 459, 460, 461).

In meat counter terminology, this should be something more like.
"Last ticket was X. Now serving Y."

Corrected Errors are in the Spoiler tag below.

Meghanada chausses +2: Missing Magic Evasion +69 in description.

Hocho: JP item has Main Hand: Cooking +3. English doesn't have Main hand. I'd assume JP is correct.

Laksamana's Attire Set has naming inconsistencies between +1 and +2/3. (head and feet)
https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Laksamana's_Attire_Set_%2B2

Synthesis menu is slightly different depending on language.

I guess maybe it didn't fit in English.

Magic Finale is missing help text/description in magic menu.

I mean they say "Occasionally absorbs damage taken" instead of "Set: Occasionally absorbs damage taken"

Amalric Nails +1 list "Magic Damage +11" and "Magic Defense Bonus +20" in the English client. The correct values are "Magic Damage +20" and "Magic Defense Bonus +6".

The NQ also has incorrect values, but I don't know what the correct ones are.

There is an error on bp rage messages when the bp instead of dealing dmg it heals the target, the message says it heals the actor and not the target. (probably the same with other pets)
I reported this on the official forums ages ago but they did nothing. https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/55492-Error-with-Blood-Pact-Rage-messages

Easily reproduceable with Kin in Omen.

This also happens when a wyvern elemental breath is absorbed, so you'd be right about the other pets bit.

They used to be to the right actually, quite a long time ago. They changed it to allow for longer item names.

RUN AF legs +2 read as "Runiest trousers +2", whereas the whole rest of the set (including the +1/+3) read as "Runeist trousers"

They actually just updated in July the COR AF hands +2/+3 which had a similar problem of going from Laksamana to Laskamana.

I figured the JP text was correct but I did decide to double check in-game can confirm. I only got the skill when in main hand. Couldn't attempt a lvl 30 craft with it in offhand. Had np trying it once I swapped it to main hand.

Smythe's Ecu (26429) says Blacksmithing Skill +1 instead of just Smithing, rest of the line of shields uses Smithing just like other skill + gear.

Gnadbhod's Helm (16158) says Slow +5% instead of "Slow"+5%

After remembering about that head because of MNK Boost TP build. I decided to do a power search on AH all the old Hecatomb NQ/+1 also say Slow +X% instead of "Slow"+X%
https://www.ffxiah.com/search/item?&description=Slow%20%2B#adv

There is a ton of stuff that says Haste + vs Haste+. IIRC in the last few months SE had mentioned this also in patch notes. iirc? Looking now.

Edit: NVM that's different as per the July update notes.
"Certain augments with “Haste+%” and “Slow+%” do not display the percentage sign.
* This is a display error only. The effects of these augments are functioning properly."

Edit 2: Now that I had more time the Haste + error is only 5 items.
Geo. Galero +1 (27705) Says Haste +6% instead of Haste+6%
Rune. Bandeau +1 (27706) Says Haste +8% instead of Haste+8%
Spae. Coat +1 (27831) Says Haste +3% instead of Haste+3%
Pill. Armlets +1 (27969) Says Haste +5% instead of Haste+5%
Dynasty Mitts (28034) Says Haste +3% instead of Haste+3%

Edit 3: Heres the Hecatomb gear with the Slow + issue
Hecatomb Cap (13927) 9%
Hecatomb Cap +1 (13928) 11%
Hecatomb Mittens (14076) 5%
Hecatomb Mittens +1 (14077) 7%
Hecatomb Leggings (14180) 4%
Hecatomb Leggings +1 (14181) 6%
Hecatomb Subligar (14308) 12%
Hecatomb Subligar +1 (14309) 14%
Hecatomb Harness (14378) 13%
Hecatomb Harness +1 (14379) 15%

Edit 4:
I think you should add a note especially if this list is to get handed to SE at some point.

"Laksamana's Tricorne +2 (ID: 23056) / Laksamana's Tricorne +3 (ID: 23391)
Inconsistency - Other COR Artifact Head Equipment is called "Hat" not "Tricorne"
Tricorne is a newer term they started using and imo Hat is the wrong text and they all should be a Tricorne since they are Tricornes.

I think when they first added AF they hadn't decided to use this term and when they did the first 109/119 (+1) they just used the term on the old AF instead of being smart and renaming to Tricorne like they did with +2/+3 to fit in with the rest of of the Relic/Emp gear/style.

Edit 5: This might of been an error when they first added EMP gear and they kept up with it. The spellings are interchangeable but I feel like it was just someone else translating later on why we got the different spellings.

WHM Bodies: Briault vs Briauld
All AF uses Briault
All Relic uses Briault
Blessed Briault / Blessed Briault + 1

I made a mistake below:

All EMP uses Briauld.
Orison Bliaud (12030)
Orison Bliaud +1 (11186)
Orison Bliaud +2 (11086)
Ebers Bliaud (26902)
Ebers Bliaud +1 (26903)

Edit 6: (June 10th, 2019) When they added "Zantetsuken X" they changed the JP description to say "時々物理防御力を無効化" on Coruscanti to match Zantetsuken X but left the English text alone instead of changing it to the new description.
Coruscanti (19144) Says: Occasionally ignores physical defense
Zantetsuken X (21664) Says: Occasionally nullifies enemies' defense

Edit 7: There may be an issue with DRK Relic hands. The old NQ/+1/+2 say "Gauntlets" but the new iLVL NQ/+1/+2/+3 say "Finger Gauntlets". The AF nor EMP change from "Gauntlets". Getting a bit late so I didn't look at JP text. Just stuff I remember dealing with in templates of BGWiki when making them.

"Finger Gauntlets" are normally reserved for DRG gear.

https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Cait_Sith_Prime

Cait Sith uses "Level ? Holy" in English in this battlefield but the attack is called "HP ? Holy" in JP. It deals damage based on HP, not level.

Both of those are errors, the word is "bliaut" or "bliaud", but no R anywhere: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bliaut
A briault is not a thing.

Also, Odnowa Earring +1 says that it converts 100 MP to HP, but it actually converts 110.

Pouwhenua (21162)
DPS: 3209 DMG:215 Delay:402 Accuracy+8 Attack+8 Staff skill +242 Parrying skill +242 Magic Accuracy skill +188 "Triple Attack"+2 Unity Ranking: Accuray+10~20 Sunny Weather: "Regen"+2 should be Accuracy.

HQ is fine.

After seeing 2 with this same misspelling(Harness already listed). I searched the stuff and those were the only 2 with that misspelling that popped up.

Passion Jacket is just Waltz potency, not waltz potency received as the English version claims.
