Medals - A discussion REBORN!
I need a TL;DR. Who got banned from this? A list of names would be swell.

A list of names would be swell. It's the people you won't see online anymore. Quote: You can avoid all this IP and MAC address stuff if you send SE some hot packets. Bacon cheddar, ham and cheese, or Pizza flavored? Then again I always hated those things. I wouldn't have any of them laying around the house anyway. fonewear said: » That is probably have the population of Bahamut too ! We have 515 people now and this is mainly JP server and its 5AM for JP now. Bahamut is one of the biggest server after Asura I think. Most people aren't necessarily keeping the same IP address on a day to day basis. You don't need to move houses to get a different IP.
You could probably leave your modem unplugged/offline for a couple of weeks and almost assuredly get a new IP address when it came back online. There's potential that your power goes out a couple hours and you'd come back online to a new IP address. DHCP dictates that you request an IP from the service provider. Once assigned, there's a lease on that IP: A time window that your device is allotted to keep that IP. When that lease expires, if your device is still online, likely you'll keep the same IP address. If your device is not online and the lease expires, the DHCP server can assign it else where. Most Service Providers charge extra for a Static IP and it'd be plainly listed/itemized on your bill. Places like Banks or Hospitals etc would pay for something like this because some of the sites or services they access has to be from that IP address specifically. Banning by IP address would be temporary at best with zero assurances it'd keep the offending player from using the services of SE and would potentially disrupt service for someone who had nothing to do with the IP ban. While FFXI is niche as heck in the world of online-anything, it'd be a terrible approach to banning anyone by any company for whatever reason because it doesn't guarantee anything. Banning accounts/characters based on IP information is a whole other thing. SE could potentially see that three different accounts were logged on from the same IP address simultaneously through the last week and ban all three accounts. They could potentially do more research across the last full year and come to a conclusion that 3 separate accounts are all the same exact person based on IP/Login history. I haven’t logged in since Sunday. Maybe half the server will be gone. Wait maybe I don’t want that. After all, the other half of PCs on Asura are bots farming crafting shields in Crawler’s Nest. No one noticable is gone or will be gone. These couple guys got 15 minutes of fame from being invisible nobodies. You wont realize a single ban went out unless you knew one of them.
More or less everyone is saying the same thing. S-E bans playonline accounts based on IP information. They can't effectively ban the IP address itself.
Now lets get some hot packet memes going. (I still think those things are gross). SE is whipping up a tasty fettuccine alfredo out of the spaghetti code, gonna pour it all over Aurix, and let their watermelon reskin programmer bug test it for an hour later. That seems odd. Don't they have a test server? Why the maintenance I wonder unless they're... going to rework stuff involved with Dynamis into Rare/Ex stuff!
The "not so EMERGENCY maint" should be to remove the medals, that's all and put aurix back, but they don't need a maint for that
Worse case is... Aurix work wrong = TRUE. Change that to Aurix work wrong = False. Aurix work correct = TRUE. Server announcement: Everyone leave Ru'Lude Gardens for 15 minutes. *fix fix* Server announcement: Everyone can go back to Ru'Lude Gardens.
Wonder what else they'll be changing. They they start with: The following items are now tagged "Ex". Much lulz. Asura.Aeonova said: » Wonder what else they'll be changing. Just don't call people out by name. Even if they are banned, it doesn't mean this is 1984 and they are now an un-person.
if they out themselves its ok, but just because someone named eiryl says I got baned doesnt make it true, so

Just cause Shoz has decided to call the game quits, he was barley logging in anyways last few months, doesn’t mean jack ***. It means we lost the shellholder and may reform under a different one. Good grief.

Good grief. Sounds fishy to me to happen today, he was "all up in" that dragoon update, balls deep. Honestly don't care, just commentary. ![]() This is why you don't call out players/linkshells by name. They get upset, circle the wagons, and derail threads. Asura.Aeonova said: » ![]() This is why you don't call out players/linkshells by name. They get upset, circle the wagons, and derail threads. Especially when they're just plain unknowledgeable. No one who actually knows is just gonna throw out the names of the people using it and what servers they were on. This is just people taking the opportunity to go at people they personally dislike. malakef said: » People hoping for the demise of Dreadnaught gonna be surprised when like all of us still log in today. Good grief. Wow you guys are delusional really. Lex was always FIRST to defend you when anyone said something wrong about your LS (including that drama with Suph not so long ago) Also you feel super important with all that "People hoping for the demise of Dreadnaught" when literally none cares. Its a 2nd time in like 3 months when we were even talking about your LS. At least one person from that shell was using this exploit, no need to take it further and name names though.
