nobody mentioned resident evil 4???
RE4 was a good game but might as well get the HD version on Xbox/PS3 instead of the PS2 ver.

i suppose, but i prefer to have the actual disc/case instead of something on my hard drive.

anyways...

castlevania: curse of darkness
red faction 1/2
tales of legendia
tales of the abyss
silent hill 2/3
wild arms 3

all great games

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Pro: When you power up, you look like a super saiyan.
Con: You will meet one of the most annoying character in video game history.

Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love
Pro: First Sakura Wars game to be ported in English.
Con: Worst one in the series.

Highly recommend Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. Dubbing is actually good for a change. Being able to distribute your skill points can either make the game very easy or more challenging. Also adds more replay value for different builds. Wide screen support and love the art style cell shading textures used in game.

Great games, if you have a couple hundred bucks to pay for them (I would really like Haunting Ground but $98 is a bit steep for even me).

Most of the RPG Titles I would recommend have been said already. I will add a sort of heads up if you or anyone else decide to try and get all the .hack games... be very wary when dealing with Gamestop. They have a bad habit of filing both .hack and .hack//GU under just ".hack". I had probably 4 occasions when trying to track all those down where I would get .hack Vol 3 inside the case for .hack//GU Vol 3 which is what I had actually ordered. It can become a real frustrating process if you are ordering from the online store, losing out on 3-5 bucks shipping each time you have to return that crap for a refund.

I will also say this, if you are a fan at all of Silent Hill the best thing about having a PS2 is being able to play the PS2 versions of Silent Hill 2 and 3. They are expensive on PS2 now and the main reason is that the HD release on PS3/360 was complete *** garbage. They really just did a horrible job and for a HD release the game actually looks worse, I mean for *** sake they took out the fog effects for 85% of the games. There is a long section of Silent Hill 2 where there should be a siren going off in order to build a feeling of suspense (remember the siren from the movie?) and they just up and forgot to put it in the HD version, GOOD WORK GUYS!

RPG wise xenosaga 1-3 are the top of my list, the game play was decent as well as the battle system although not as in depth as most of the FF series, but what puts it over the top is the story line and the FMV

I give +1 to the Xenosaga Series (just make sure to add in Xenogears of course)

For PS2 I really liked Shadowhearts a very solid RPG series with a unique and fun combat system with more then decent story to back it up (except dawn of a new world which was really bad)

I would also Suggest Digital Devil Saga if you enjoy darker themed games.

Back in the day (I feel old ;-;) I spent many hours playing through Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven. It wasn't the greatest game ever made, but I really did enjoy the ninja stealth style it had. It was my first time playing anything like it before. The controls are a little wonky sometimes though. I had also bought Tenchu: Fatal Shadows, but it seemed like it had the same control issues, so I never got very far into it.

Oh, and I think what also appealed to me with Wrath of Heaven was it gave you the option to use original Japanese voices with subtitles. I have never been a fan of dubs.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is great for a button masher. It's an overhead view hack and slash RPG using DnD rules. I've wasted many an hour on it. There was a sequel but I didn't like it as much.

To say it uses D&D rules is a bit of a streatch since the numbers are blown way out of proportion... there is a weapon that would be the equivalent of around 5D10 + 100 for it's damage calculation. Anyone who has played D&D could tell you how stupidly over powered that would be.

It uses lore, classes and spell names from D&D, but thats about it... actually one of the player characters is a human arcane archer which is (was, not sure about 4.0) a class restricted to elf and half elf so even there it's kinda a streatch

I just assumed, my friends and I are still playing 2nd edition when it comes to real DnD. Same static for over 15 years and reluctant to upgrade.

Some rare gems I still have and recommend:

Also, anything past DnD 3.5 is a waste of time. DnD 4.0 blows.

This is irritating me when people keep calling it Legend of Legaia 2. Its Legaia 2: Duel Saga. At least if you like or hate the game get the title right. Its almost as annoying when people call Chrono Cross Chrono Trigger 2.

I like Legaia 2: Duel Saga better than Legend of Legaia but its marginal. For a PS2 sequel, it certainly is lacking when compared to a much older PS1 game.

The only thing I strongly suggest if you play this game. Play the undub version. The dubbing in this game is so bad.

Just picked up a PS2 slim from goodwill for 20 bucks and wanted some advice on some games to look for.

We have a bunch, but seeing what to look for. Have stuff like FFX, FFXII Kingdom hearts, Persona 3 etc. Just wanted an idea of really good and rare games to look for.
Ah already mentioned Persona...I approve~

Well then:
-Shadow Hearts
-Shadow Hearts: Covenant
-Legend of Dragoon (PSX title, though)
-Xenogears (also PSX)
-Zone of the Enders 2
-Project Zero 2/Fatal Frame
-Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2 (though this one may or may not be to your taste)
-Devil May Cry 3
-SSX Tricky
-Okami
-Shadow of the Colossus
-Crash Team Racing (PSX)
