Wii U Launch Date, Price Announced!
By Jetackuu 2012-09-15 14:42:59
current 3d tech is crap, just like it was 20 years ago.
I wouldn't quite say that. The 3ds is trippy as ***. The thing you can do with those paper cards that come with the system, blows my mind.
I meant mostly in movies, but even when I had a 3DS I turned the 3d off, I'm sorry evolution before now never tackled the issue of trying to focus and converge on two different points at once, I prefer not to get headaches when playing games/watching movies.
Regular batteries last way longer than the ones you can recharge though!
I never had any issues, batteries usually lasted quite a few days for me as a kid, and batteries never were very expensive as long as you bought the cheap big packs :P
Loads of batteries that last for 10 hours for $10 -> Few batteries that last for 13 hours that cost $10.
I never had that issue, and I've used both, rechargeable were definitely the economical way to go, considering they lasted for a few years.
Cheap alkaline probably last just about as long as that generation of rechargeable, is the sad part. Some nice NiMH ones now though would kick either one in the nuts.
the GameBoy Color was a great improvement, only needed 3v instead of 6.

Your personal preference doesn't mean the technology is ***though. And some 3d movies are excellent. The Avengers was so sick in 3d.

Yeah thankfully I only used a normal gameboy for a little bit (borrowed one) until I got a color as a gift.
So many hours spent on pokemon gold...
Some of my best childhood memories include that game, had it with me everywhere XD
But yeah, a big pack of batteries could basicly translate to a 200 hour save-game for pokemon! :p

The Avengers in 3D was pretty well done for sure, was just one scene where Ironman flew that hurt my eyes a little bit, vs Avatar and Harry potter which made my brain felt like it would melt :P
Star Wars ep.1 was well done aswell!
Edit:
Mario Kart 7 for 3DS actually have very well done 3D aswell, compared to all other games I've tried, where I just instantly turn off the 3D.

no physics and human biology mean the technology is ***.
yeah, I used the same like 20 batteries (if that) for 5+ years
I need to dig up the gb and gbc specs out later, I'm curious about something.

I've never had an issue with 3D movies, I don't really understand why they make others so irritated watching them. I think some are more well done than others for sure, but none of them give me a headache or anything.

Oh come on, let's not try to turn this into some pseudo science debate. It doesn't give everybody headaches, and the 3d is adjustable on the 3dS anyways.

I agree for the most part, but Avatar made my head hurt like hell =/ Might've been the movie-theater more than the actual movie, idk..
But even like 5min into that movie I noticed that my eyes were hurting.

I actually loved the 3D in Avatar. When the tree burnt down and the ashes were floating everywhere it was almost like I could touch them.

For me, the glasses are uncomfortable to wear and the 3d isn't really anything that's "omg I have to see this in 3d"
So if I'm paying less money for a more comfortable viewing of the movie (2d), there's no reason to do 3D

I have a rule though kinda.
If a movie has 3D in the title I almost will never go see it because I automatically think it's going to be crap and not worth seeing.

So if I'm paying less money for a more comfortable viewing of the movie (2d), there's no reason to do 3D I think the theater is a huge factor on the viewing experience for the audience. If they don't supply you with glasses that fit you they can either slip or squeeze you, which isn't comfortable at all. My theater has small, medium, and large options which I really enjoy that they went to the effort to do that.

Super mega beartopus vs catdog in 3D! That'd be the only 3D movie I'd see.. I've never seen anything in 3D lol doesn't appeal to me much.

it's not pseudo-science, it's really not that hard to understand.
Also: Just because you don't get headaches all the time, doesn't mean you won't, it's a strain you place on your eyes, and eventually it will happen, unless the strain doesn't give you a headache, which I'd imagine is possible.
3d movies haven't given me headaches, but I've seen a couple, and think it's 99% overrated, not worth it imo, and it ruins picture quality and takes away from things that could be spent doing other stuff.
As for the 3DS: it just looked awful, then again I only had 1 game for it.
But the person I sold mine to said he leaves it off as well.
(then again I have near perfect eyesight, people who already have bad eyesight, it's bad for them as they're typically straining already, but then again that's a lot of people.

The theater here makes you buy a pair, which is both bad and good I suppose.
Atleast I know mine fit perfectly whenever I go watch a 3d movie! :p

Nah, it's not that for me. It's glasses in general. Hell, I don't even wear my regular glasses outside of class because it's just uncomfortable to have them sitting on my face. I try to get in the front row of a class so I can be close enough to the board not to need them to see, so I don't have to wear them. In the classes I do have to wear them, I take them off as soon as the class is over.
Same applies to sunglasses, never been able to wear those either.

That's something totally different then, so I understand why you would rather just watch 2D.

Yea, basically if there was a movie that was in full 3D, and not just certain things here and there, then I think it'd be worth the discomfort for me
Or hell, even if the movies were as they are now, and the same price as 2d, but it has to be a pretty damn amazing use of the 3D for me to pay extra for discomfort.
By Jetackuu 2012-09-15 15:07:15
now I never did try the glasses with the 3DS, I have a pair somewhere that I guess I could try. (I think I got them from the theater, I forget, I haven't been in so long).
How is the tablet for the Wii-U, and iirc didn't M$ come out with some sort of tablet for the 360/Windows?

I personally don't mind supporting my theater by buying a soda and popcorn. I know I pay a lot, and it's 10 times as much as I could make a home, but they keep the place clean, they keep their systems in check so the sound isn't too loud or the screen isn't centered, they do a lot to make sure the customer is having a happy experience so I don't mind. Whenever I go out of town and visit a different theater I'm always unhappy with the service and a few times the sound was way too loud.

I have'nt really paid attention to the ticket price, but if it's more it's just a tiny tiny amount, a few $ or so.

Hate to call anything gimmicky in a Nintendo thread for fear of being called a hypocrite, but that's basically how I feel about 3D.
Current 3D technology is nothing new, and the same technology has been reintroduced to the public multiple times over the last 60+ years in effort to rejuvenate otherwise stagnating markets, be it poor box office results or slumping sales of the newest consumer display devices.
The first thing I saw presented in 3D was Captain EO at Disneyland over 20 years ago (and now I feel old) and it was certainly an incredible illusion to see. It felt like you could reach out and touch it, and of course if you did you were likely to punch someone in the back of the head, but no matter. 20 years later, what do we have? It's the same thing (with less donkey punches). Movies are much, much better now, and granted Captain EO was a pretty terrible movie by any standard: the whole thing was based around the gimmick of 3D. But if it's already a good movie, my enjoyment of it shouldn't hinge around the fact of it being in 3D. When all is said and done, I'm not going to go home and talk about the 3D effects any more than I'm going to praise a movie I watched on Blu-ray for being a good movie by virtue of it looking better than it would have on VHS. If I go home and talk about anything, it will be about the movie, and only if it was a good movie. Or maybe if it was a really, really god awful movie. I'm looking at you, Airbender.
So when someone calls current 3D technology crap, yeah, I see exactly where they're coming from.

If you're saying that 3D cinema should have evolved over the years exactly how could it?
Right now there are only 3 methods of creating a 3D film. They can use two or more cameras, if they are making an animated film they can simply use two virtual cameras, or they can convert an old 2D film into 3D by scanning each individual frame and making a left and right image for each frame.
The glasses simply put the two images back together, creating depth depending on the spacing of the images.
Like I said before, if a movie has 3D in the name then it most likely is going to be a rip off, but I don't see how they can make 3D better right now. How can it evolve beyond simple tweaks in glasses to make a more accurate experience for the audience?

Exactly. Just because it has only advanced a lil since Captain EO (nice reference btw), doesn't mean it's not good. 3D can only go so far.

It's simply a different experience. The only way it could enhance it is if it showed you extended scenes or something.

I don't see how it's different as much as an "enhancement" lol. You're still seeing the same content, just in an "enhanced" manner. I'd much rather look at an HD 2D image than a partially muddled 3D one that requires me to wear eye equipment and ***.
So Nintendo has finally released its launch information for Wii U.
Gamespot Link - (linking gamespot because I'm tired of IGN's ads and embedded videos)
Highlights ~ 2 versions, Basic ($299) and Premium ($350) to be released Nov. 18 in NA, Nov 30th in Europe, Dec 8th in Japan.
Basic version - White console, 8 GB, HDMI cable, Gamepad, Sensor Bar
Premium - Black console, 32 GB, HDMI, Sensor Bar, Gamepad, Charger + Stand, Nintendo Network Premium Subscription (online service), Nintendoland (game)
Launch Titles - New Mario, ZombiU, Rayman, Mass Effect 3, FIFA 13, CoD: BO2, NintendoLand. Nintendo also confirmed around 50 games will be releasing for the console between launch date and March, including Bayonetta 2, which will be a Wii U exclusive. Games will retail at $60. Gamepads are not sold separately.
Most surprising thing to me is the basic version only has a 8 GB HD.
