Am I the only person thinking this is cheap for a launch-price?
The new Playstation and Xbox is gonna be way more expensive >_>
The playstation 3 was TWICE as expensive as this when it was released.
It really depends on how you see it, but keep in mind that the specs are on par with consoles from 7 years ago. So just like the Wii and 3DS, you are paying for a gimmick (motion/3d/controller pad).
And that's fine for me, really.
Like I said earlier, Nintendo will still be Nintendo, people still love them no matter what, because the games they release are still awesome, even if their hardware is'nt as powerful as their rivals.
So Nintendo will do their thing, I have'nt seen them as a part of the "console war" since N64.
They kind of tried with GameCube, but at that point Nintendo just started doing their own thing, while Sony and Microsoft fight over the more "hardcore" gamers.

If I bought a Nintendo console only when a decent game comes out, I wouldn't have bought any Nintendo console since the GamecubeGame Boy Advance.
F-ZERO, proper Super Smash Bros, where are you?

Ah, sorry, I saw some people talking about the amount of storage and storage options before you made that post. I just figured you forgot/dropped the second 'D'.
Still, I'd really like an HDD that can be upgraded like the PS3 one. USB/Flash memory is okay but it is a (slightly)more expensive/inconvenient option.
I didn't make the post...
It will take external memory no problem apparently. The only thing I wish it offered was an internal bay, so you could keep it within the system (and power it via the system) but I guess I like to carry my systems to other places from time to time and like them more "portable."
I just hope that Nintendo makes it easy to hack again, if so can't wait :D

If Nintendo cost this much im guessing Xbox/ps will cost base 500 dollars if not more for old tech
By Kimble2013 2012-09-15 09:50:55
Im not sure if Sony wants to go down that route again.

PS3 was released at a bad time, that and lack of games due to the same time, was just bad practice, they could have released it later at the same price point and done better...

PS3 when it was released here was like 6000 nok, which is around $1050, so if PS4 is $500 at release I'll be a very happy man. :P

the problem people have with it is the technology that they are using is literally almost the same as an xbox 360. triple core cpu and their graphics are direct x 10 capable only i believe. not even better than the ps3 :(
though the price is only so high because of that damn tablet controller. i think i'm going to sell mine off and get 2 pro controllers instead lol.
so far they haven't released the specs, so don't know where you're getting those from...

Man, $350 is so expensive.
And $60 for games, way too pricey. Pretty much the same here. US really has it easy when it comes to this :(
have a question: what's the minimum wage/average rate of pay there?
By Kimble2013 2012-09-15 10:24:48
Why was the PS3's launch a bad time?
And yes, games do play a factor, PS3 didn't have much of any for the first 6 months I think. Its first big game wasnt till a year later (Uncharted)
But still, id think they shy away from a 600+ dollar price tag again.

just the economy wasn't the greatest at the time, I remember a lot of people who couldn't afford it.
(gas skyrocketed about that time iirc).
between that and the way the PSN works, people were displeased.

There is no law-set minimum wage in Norway, but it's very very rare to see people earn less than $20 in a normal food-store job if they're above 18.
I think avarage/year is around $52k -> $70k for normal middle-class workers.
By Kimble2013 2012-09-15 10:32:12
They have specs listed on Wiki, but says nothing about it being only direct X10

yeah, best job of my life so far I'm making $15, no benefits. Minimum wage is $7.25
now compare.

there's no official specs yet, and even the ones on the one wiki weren't concrete (multicore cpu).
if it is right though in that it has 2gb ram, that's a good bit for a dedicated console.

oh yeah, forgot to mention the bit about their proprietary discs again in an attempt to prevent pirating, lol...
fools.
By Kimble2013 2012-09-15 10:49:36
Why must you always bring that up? lol. I don't even bother to pirate or crack a system. You can get games pretty cheap (new ones as well) if you know how to shop around.
besides, it would be bad business to not try and prevent pirating.

Pretty underwhelming but Nintendo tends to be behind the curve in everything but innovation anyway.

not really.
especially since it's a fruitless endeavor, you can't stop it.
I bring it up because it hurts the consumer and doesn't help the business, and it's a problem.
By Kimble2013 2012-09-15 10:58:05
You don't think developers would be a little pissed and not want to work with a console if they just said "yeah, we don't care about pirating, we encourage it so go ahead"
Pretty sure that would turn away a lot of people.
I really fail to see how it hurts the consumer since if they aren't paying for it, they aren't really a consumer, but we'll just agree to disagree. It is what it is.
By Jetackuu 2012-09-15 11:02:53
there's a difference between realizing you can't stop it and stop wasting money and hurting consumers by trying to stop it with stupid DRM measures that don't work, and encouraging it, how do you not see that?
not really, otherwise there wouldn't be devices in progress such as the Ouya.
It hurts the other consumers, who do pay for it.
No, actually I won't agree to disagree, you are part of the problem.

I'm part of the problem because I just don't care about it? Honestly, Its not like this is driving up the cost of a Wii U, lol.
You don't like to pay for things, that's fine. I get that. I just rather pay for things I think are worth it.
Why can't we just agree to disagree then?
You're very pro piracy, and im just in the middle and don't really care either way. That's fine.

It's a new console with the specs of an "old" one. Nothing particularly to get excited about in my opinion.

Its actually better specs, but slightly. A PS4 and 720 aren't going to be as cutting edge as you think.

you're part of the problem because you encourage restrictive DRM without actually thinking about it.
It is actually, proprietary media requires research.
Actually I don't mind paying for things, I started pirating in protest of the stupid DRM, to show how ridiculous it is.
Because you don't get it, it's not a matter of agreeing to disagree.

It isn't though, which is why I asked...
So Nintendo has finally released its launch information for Wii U.
Gamespot Link - (linking gamespot because I'm tired of IGN's ads and embedded videos)
Highlights ~ 2 versions, Basic ($299) and Premium ($350) to be released Nov. 18 in NA, Nov 30th in Europe, Dec 8th in Japan.
Basic version - White console, 8 GB, HDMI cable, Gamepad, Sensor Bar
Premium - Black console, 32 GB, HDMI, Sensor Bar, Gamepad, Charger + Stand, Nintendo Network Premium Subscription (online service), Nintendoland (game)
Launch Titles - New Mario, ZombiU, Rayman, Mass Effect 3, FIFA 13, CoD: BO2, NintendoLand. Nintendo also confirmed around 50 games will be releasing for the console between launch date and March, including Bayonetta 2, which will be a Wii U exclusive. Games will retail at $60. Gamepads are not sold separately.
Most surprising thing to me is the basic version only has a 8 GB HD.
Discuss~
