I know this might seem like one of those lazy "gimmeh your gear sets!" posts but I've looked all over and i haven't found a sets thread after looking

if you guys could let me know what the most optimal sets are for BRD99 aswell as the next best instruments to Dardaubla and Gjallerhorn i'd really appreciate it!

and if i missed a thread with all this in it links would also be appreciated

thanks :)

This seems to be a good start for everything but the instruments. For those, I ran a quick power search and came up with the following:

Buffs Precast:

Lullaby/Finale:

Debuffs:

Buff gear set I had was made with Gjallarhorn in mind, but that's simple enough that you should be able to figure it out. I haven't actually played Bard in..years so I may be missing some obvious things.

Most of the gear covered in that thread covers it all.

I'd probably use a swith cape +1 for precast now since it was just added last patch.

As for emp/relic alternatives.

langeleik for march/etudes
piccolo +1 for threnody
apollo's flute for minuets
Pan's horn for finale/lullaby
syrinx for elegy

I think as a bare minimum that would work nicely.

It's not a bad staff if you cba to bring around all HQ staffs for proc songs, which I know most people do not.

Great cape for wind debuffing, for wind you should be capping all buff songs naked, so recast/duration type things would be best

http://www.ffxiah.com/item/18831/crooners-cithara

Would be the other instrument you need, and stacking string skill on that obviously gives you better range if that's what you want

Edit**

And tbh, you can get away with just carrying Alk and the Light and Earth HQ staves, considering casting is 0 MP and recasts are quite low on top of the fact you really shouldnt be getting resisted anyway, that's the first space saver to make, HQ light is the one that REALLY matters, because if sleep gets resisted, well things are not slept so yea, HQ Earth for idling anyway but obviously landing elegy is quite important

As far as staves go, I have:
Cure staff
Apollo's for lullaby and finale
Terra's for Elegy and PDT for idle
Vulcan's for Nocturne

I wouldn't pay for an Alkalurops since I could only reasonably replace apollo's and vulcan's. I use terra's for PDT and it can't replace a cure staff. You'd get the added benefit of some macc on the threnody's that you don't have a staff for but honestly, the ***that resists them is probably gunna floor or nearly floor your macc anyway and you're just gunna have to spam or use Eseal.

Granted, I have a 95 gjallar, merits and some pretty top tier brd gear so I don't know if an average geared brd could get away with some of what I do. /shrug

One thing I would recommend is making a light macc staff. On top of being great for Lullaby and Finale, it cuts off 3 seconds from the recast. Also works for light-based spells like Erase and Cursna.

Pain in the *** to make but very useful.

hyaline hat is also now by far the best headpiece for debuffs. Makes me sad that Roundlet+2 was trumped! :(
