Until they make the game available for download on the psn network for ps3, i doubt they will drop ps2 support.

I hope so, PS2 players can get a 50$ pc and a ffxi copy; then finally we can get updated and not limited stuff

I play on ps2 lol, but i have a ps3, I would love if they did that actually.

Seriously I can't imagine too many people play on PS2, and that those who do don't have a stone age PC, PS3 or 360 laying around.

I used to play on PS2, but after so many years, I can see the need to drop it. I can understand why they didn't in the past. They probably had a large % of people still using it to play. I tried it on the PS3 emulated version, but wasn't impressed. You get less lag on the PS2 honestly... at least I did. Used to crash all the time.
I still have some friends that play it on the PS2 at the moment, and they have been since the beginning. I would hate for them to be put in a small financial strain if they dropped PS2 support. On the other hand, it's probably been a long time coming. If they do I hope they do something to help out the people that are on PS2. That damn thing wasn't cheap.. was like $100 when it first came out with the hard drive. That and you needed to have the network adapter to play it as well (another $60 at the time).. Not including the subscription fee.

Plenty of gamers have been upgrading consoles for years to play newer version of games, all the way back to stepping up from an Atari 2600 to a 5200 for a newer Pacman. Seriously, the game has had a long, good run on PS2. Get with the times.
If I found out that the game I continue to play and enjoy, was coming to a screeching halt because of my console's limitations, I'd upgrade in a heartbeat. If you can afford a monthly subscription fee for a video game, you can afford a cheap, used console or POS PC to play on.

Xbox whould be the Easter transition for ps2 users. Can get a used one for real cheap and transition from controller > controller is a hell of alot easier than controller > keyboard (assuming they don't buy a pc controller) 120g hdd used for 50$ used arcade ver for under 100 easy at gamestop (recently upgraded hdd myself from the 20 to tue 120g so I know that price lol)

Honestly, you can probably get a pc that can play FFXI for free from sites like freecycle or craigslist.
If you don't want to go that way you can likely find a rather cheap one via refurb online or on ebay. But more importantly... it's 2011, how is it that you have internet but no pc?
