Dual Boxing?

I'm REALLY new to Dual Boxing, and would love to get into it.
I am currently dual boxing, and have been, for a week now, on two accounts on one computer monitor.

No lag, works good.

I was wondering how to make the offhand account (the one I put on /follow) attack or cure without tabbing? Is this possible? If so, how?

I am a complete n00b with Windower plugins so if anyone could post a "Dummy's Guide to.." it would be extremely helpful!

I'm really new to doing anything with a second account opened at the same time. I wouldn't even know where to begin. I have just been alt-tabbing and using macros for /follow and everything else, but I know there has to be an easier way.

If it is botting, I've been looking on Windowers website and finding pretty much no information for a newbie to it, it's all worded for people who have been doing it regularly.

There is another option over botting...

The G11, G15 type keyboards can be used with the g15binder plugin. That allows you to use the G keys on the keyboard to actually preform actions on the other window without having to have that window in focus. So you could set a macro to cure yourself on the G keys and hit that and not have to tab over. It takes some work to setup but its worth it in the end.

That would be awesome. I'll be looking into it. My current keyboard has a few extra buttons on it (eight) that are currently useless, not being used by Windows or anything. Is there a way to use the g15binder plugin for any keyboard that has multiple extra buttons?

EDIT: Can you get banned over dual boxing on 1 computer? I have read it's better to dual box on two computers, because SE can see two accounts on one MAC address.

Actually using a bot for second account is very inefficient for maximization of dual boxing skills if using it to PL bot. Stun bot would be fine but more than likely the person controlling it via another PC/device would be able to do better. I know a lot of friends who two box using some program and all the time their *** *** up and it starts casting stoneskin instead of healing people, or it can't anticipate when a ws or spell is about to wtf dmg someone. Human reactions are always better imo. Botting is bad anyway and botters should feel terrible about themselves. So to sum it up, get a laptop/2nd PC.

No, you can't get banned. If you are paying for two accounts SE doesn't care if you are playing them both at the same time lol.

As far as I know this plug in only works with the G keyboard setup.

Works just fine just to alt-tab, you just gotta get used to it!

Anything later than G15 it won't however though, best to my knowledge. Atleast, the plugin doesn't work with my G19.

once u get used 2 it u can prob play both account "ok" like person above said bots r useful but a bot doesnt know OMFG that blizga4 is going 2 hurt.

Once you go G11 you wont go back to alt tabbing. Its way better and easier. However finding G11 keyboards is getting harder and harder. I didnt know about the newer keyboards not working...time to stockpile G11s.

I dual box and alt-tab. Its not difficult. The only problem is when you alt-tab and expect it bring up your second character and it ends up going to your browser or map program or something else.

Eventually, alt-tab, alt+1 (Cure VI <stal>), up/down arrow, enter, alt-tab back becomes second nature.

It's very easy to do if you actually "dual box" (actually use 2 computers), that's how I've been doing it for a long time now and some people have even commented that they can't believe it's just 1 person controlling both characters.

I have been just alt-tabbing, like said, and giving my off character a couple of macros and it seems to be working fairly well (7k/hour average at level 40, which isn't bad imo outside Abyssea).

I'm looking into a G15 keyboard, just so when I DO alt-tab, I can hit one button on the keyboard, instead of using my PS3 R2 trigger to bring up the macros, and then clicking X. It lasts about 3 seconds, so really, not a problem. I was mainly looking into be able to do it, WITHOUT alt-tabbing, but if this is the easiest way, I'll stick to it then :)

There is a program called switchmon, which can switch your game instances back and forth with one toggle button. Also if you tri-box you can set different buttons to hit next or previous to make it much easier.

This works better for me as I often dual box in different parties and have other roles than simply cure botting myself and while G keys help a ton, a bot is just about worthless if you need something more involved than just spamming a few things.

What is going on in this thread?

Dual boxing isn't easy, and I've been doing it for months.
All I have to say is it probably is most ideal to simply alt-tab between instances to keep a repetitive pattern and routine going.
It can be more difficult if you have other programs like your music player, firefox or instant messenger in background, but if you can keep your windows focused between those two it helps immensely.

For the simple things like resting, following, joining and disbanding your own personal parties, I highly recommend DualSend, which you can bind to whatever key combinations work for you in a singular instance of FFXI. This can also be extremely useful if you own a G-series Logitech keyboard.

For more complicated stuff, all I can say is Spellcast in combination with DualSend is a godsend. Just takes time and patience to understand how to make you own functioning xmls. Just take the time to take a look through the command lines and start with a template made by someone else for the class you play and simply replace the gear names in the file to your own.

But yeah, tl;dr: Be patient and take the time to test various methods with basic windower stuff, and you'll be a great dual boxer.

The best thing I like about the G15 setup is one keypress can send commands to both (or all) instances of FFXI. Using echos, this can give you chat feedback of what's going on, using /waits to warn when refresh might be wearing off, etc.

I rather enjoy switchmon with the next and previous game instance buttons mapped to my controller, replacing the hide ui and logout button(start, select).
I find it quite fast to dual box this way, and not so bad to triple box. All without touching a keyboard :)
