I'm always pretty impressed with how they incorporate all of these really cool mythology and medieval armor terms into every little aspect of the items. I always felt like a badass in my college literature classes when the terms come up in my readings and I'm like HELL YES only person in this class that knows what a Haubergeon is.
Cid in FFXII settled my Bahamut issues.
Ba-hah-moot Also I used to say Pree-shay for Prishe instead of you know... Pri-shh. Lakshmi.Sparthosx said: » Cid in FFXII settled my Bahamut issues. Ba-hah-moot Also I used to say Pree-shay for Prishe instead of you know... Pri-shh. Ba-ha-moot is also acceptable as its addressed either way in terms of the mythological creature. The spelling and pronunciation can vary depending on who you ask from that culture :< and honestly, i just say stuff how its read. I am quite annoyed when people correct me though, as when most people correct me on Skype or Mumble they are the types that think they are so much smarter than everyone and always must be right. ANYWAY Korazin- core-ah-zen Monapolas- Moan-ap-oh-lahs Zuchetto- Zoo-chet-o Dirs- Deers Gambieras- Gahm-bee-air-as Homam- Ho-mahm Askar- Ahs-kahr Denali- Den-ah-lee Goliard- Goh-lee-ard Skadi- Skah-dee Abyssea- Abyss-eeya (abyss-sea sounds totally wrong to me....why would you name a place that.) [and necrobump >_>] Bahamut or Bahamoot (/bəˈhɑːmuːt/ bə-HAH-moot; Arabic: بهموت Bahamūt) is a vast fish that supports the earth in Arabian mythology.[1][2] In some sources, Bahamut is described as having a head resembling a hippopotamus or elephant.[3]

The other pieces translate as jerkin, gloves, pants and shoes correctly though. Or maybe it's not wrong and PUPs have been running around wearing hats made of other people's hair. o.o
Edit: reminds me of the Family Guy Cool Whip clip. "YOU'RE Hey you, do you see this?
I made it with a person's head! #creepypup I pronounce that RWNWTF for short.
I call it Roo am pot en murr.

If I'm not mistaken, you're actually not supposed to be able to say it because that's just a modern representation of Ancient Egyptian, which doesn't appear to have vowels and thus impossible to tell how was actually pronounced. Prishe - Pruish, not Prisha. They say her name in Dissidia.
What a lot of people are missing, is that with all the rules and exceptions found in Modern English (United States being the current standard) is completely backwards from the rest of the world.
Italia (now known as Italy) gave the french almost 70% of their language, not to mention Austria, Hungary, and Germany, among the various political states (political borders) received their language from what was formerly the Ottoman Empire, or an earlier existing political statehead. Even with the minimal differences in dialect, it created heavy intellectual perceptions (some right, some wrong) about people from said political state. Even looking at many of the existing names of cities and NPC's, regardless of some ancient myth or legend, are common regional names that would be found. Bastok has the turn of the century American/German/Polish/etc. tie-in, San d'Oria is quite heavy on the French-European scene, while Windurst is more of a twist between tribal (mithra) and some cutesy *** (taru). Even the Galka have a racial theme, which is probably the most unfortunate, as they get "settled names" like "Iron Eater" or "Roaring Mountain", as well as Zepwellian names like Gumbah, which reflect on the American Southwest's various indigenous tribes. I've studied a bit of Japanese on my own, and while i may not be near as fluent as Jaerik, what he says is true. The other thing is, that each word typically has one meaning, while there can exist multiples words to express that meaning differently. (If i'm not mistaken, there are 7 ways to greet someone ranging from professionally, personally, generically, and variances in between, according to what time of day, and how formal it is) All sandorian related names are french. Tbh I even read Jeuno with a french sound. And Beadeaux. And Beaucedine <_< and other stuff.
I actually thought a Capella was a hairstyle, and Capello (pronounced Cappello) was the hat.
Nope, hat is cappello with 2 p. Capello is a hair(a single one).
Capella is nothing. Cappella is a chapel(or the glans in slang...the more you know). I didn't read through all of the thread but here are some common mistakes that I hear a lot. Oh, and I realize the thread is for gear, but these are sort of my pet peeves.
Ifrit: Pronounced "if-reet" Bastok: Pronounced "bass-tewk" (for all of you "bass-tock" fans, watch the intro video) Maat: Pronounced "may-et," not Matt. I'm sure I butcher 90% of the in game names... Do you guys pronounce Utsusemi: Ni like 'knee' or 'nigh'?
me too! I've only heard a few other people pronounce it 'nigh'
oot
suu se(like the first syllable in seven) mee D: I say "oot-sesame knee." Like Sesame Street or a sesame seed bun. Awful pronunciation, awful!
All the ninjutsu are Japanese, so you should pronounce them so.
Oo-tsu-se-mee Knee. (Ee-chee) |
