"FF8 battle system: "Ah! New boss.. spend the next hour drawing spells from this *** even though he's at 10HP.." Does this make sense? lolno. If you liked FF8's battle system.. yeah I don't know wtf is wrong with you. :x The story was good, I enjoyed it, it was much more involved than FF7, but it's downright too painful for me to play again."
Eh...that was one of the better parts of VIII imo. It was a different, abstract way of "leveling". Kind of what they described XIV was supposed to be. In VIII, you can be a *** beast the first time you step out of Balamb Garden because you can do what you can do in every other FF game.
Grind. But instead of EXP, you "stat" grind via draw. It didn't take a lot of thinking, but the system in itself intimidated people figuring out which GF unlocked which atributes, and the relativity of what spell would best boost what. IE...don't put Cure to Strength. Use Fire or Ultima.
You didn't *HAVE* to draw anything from any monster. Ever. It just made the game easier through drawing GF (Summons for you haters.) and drawing "permanant stats" from your enemies. The game made sure there were enough on the field and in towns to give you sufficiant magic to progress. Not to mention...THEY WERE SELF RESPAWNING OVER TIME.
Also...I liked the idea of wondering if that single cure use was worth reducing your HP from 9999 to 98xx.
I dunno. Maybe it's because I thought 7 was a piece of ***and loved 6, 8 and 9? Regardless, gonna go do what Cai did and have a googlerage moment.

I loved the Draw system in VIII. < .<
Made you think about what you Junction stuff to instead of "Killkillkill" for experience to level up.

i have to say most ff games are good and bad but each has something different in it. though i dont really understand why ppl always jump to 7 or 6. dont get me wrong 7 is 1 of my favorite games of all times. but then i also think 5 is right up there with 7, all i can say is gilgamesh lol, but i think all of the ff games are good. i dunno just my 2 cents i guess.

I, too, liked the draw system and pretty much the whole gf and junction system in ff8. It goes well with my style. I am not big on using spells (lol yes i know... this coming from a 75blm). It was fun figuring out which GF's i wanted to junction to which character. And as for the fact that using spells lowers your stats when they are junctioned to your character ( all my friends' favorite part to *** about), GF abilities pretty much covered the essentials. I had a LOT of fun with it ^^

I HATE ff7...god that game sucked so much imo lol. I've played every FF game out there, except the crystal chronicles games..never could get into them.. (including all of the gameboy ones (original game boy...is what i'm referring to), and all of the spin-ff SNES games (not in the numbered series like paladin's quest and mystic quest)...and FF7 was just ugh....
I did like the materia system. That was kind of neat. But the story itself was just horrible imho. It was so damn confusing, up until the very end. Is he a seph clone...is he not.....no it turns out he wasn't.... lol. The fact you couldn't die in the final fight was HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE...When you get to the one on one point, you literally can't die. I even played through the game without Omnislash, and when Seph hits you, you counter with it, even if you didn't get it....wtf??
All that being said, my favorites were 1,4,and 6 (well and obviously 11 since we all play it A LOT lol). 1, was a classic. Great game for NES. Very long for an NES game, and extremely fun. 4, had an incredible story with intriguing characters (go go Spoony Bard lol). I loved Cecil's story of redemption. It kept me playing for long periods of time on end lol(4 being my top fave as well). 6 had one of the best stories. I liked how the view points changed in the beginning, and I liked how the main bad guy actually caused the apocalypse lol. I liked that you got a ***load of characters in 6. Didn't just get stuck with 3-4 (which for a few FF games, wasn't a bad thing..but i like the option to choose from like 13ish or so).
Idk, long post...sorry, take my opinion for what it is, just that lol....and plz don't ff7 fan boy me to death kthx lol.

Congratulations, but it was a good game. I think it had a great story. It has plenty of flaws like all FF games do but 7 was pretty great. The story line was pretty straight forward... IDK how you could get confused. Myself, I've loved every FF game except 12... 12 was ok, but god that kid annoys me. But otherwise it was still pretty fun.

I find something fun and redeeming in every FF. Some I just tend to enjoy more so than others either by the story, graphics, gameplay, soundtrack, character development, etc.
It's the combination that makes all the difference however, and the one that has the perfect mix of everything IMO was FF6.

If you can disregard the fact that X-2 was an FF, it's an enjoyable game. Despite being pretty much FF meets Charlie's Angels -_-

As I said. It was a fun "game" but a horrific, crime against humanity as an FF.

It being like Charlie's Angels was kinda the point. It was supposed to be a more whimsical, less serious take on an FF game and in that they succeeded, travesty or not. Also, it was pretty fun with a great class system to boot.
By nepnep 2010-04-11 06:04:52
And as long as we're on the topic of Final Fantasy travesties, don't think I'll leave out other horrendous titles like Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core, and My Life as a King. Just because the franchise raping started there (and it didn't, the ones on the original Game Boy were terrible too) doesn't mean it ended there.

Going to get voted down, but who cares.
Every time someone says something about FF7 and a new FF game I just want to strangle that person through their monitor. FF7 was a decent game, but I honestly get tired of seeing so many people act like it's somehow the holy grail of RPGs. It's done, it's over with, so please let it be put to rest.
Personally, I'd love it if SE went back to their roots for the next FF. In a world similar to the FFs in the 8/16 bit era. Where technology is limited (I know FF6 had a lot in it, however it didn't seem to have as much of an impact in it compared to later titles), airships were either very uncommon or a technology from a lost society, and last but not least another job system or something similar.

It's not like Final Fantasy VII is the only RPG to nearly completely overshadow the rest of its series either. Every RPG series has one. Tales of Symphonia, Suikoden II, and Persona 3 all have the FFVII bug of weighing down their respective series with their inflated greatness.

I never played a "Tales of" game or Suikoden, however I got tired of Persona 3 fast mostly at how slow and repetitive it felt after awhile.
By nepnep 2010-04-11 06:50:55
Both Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Vesperia are great JRPGs. I'm not really into Persona but Digital Devil Saga is my favorite entry in the Shin Megami Tensei universe; And I'm currently playing Suikoden V. Any of those titles are worth a shot and so far, more enjoyable(for me anyway) than FFXIII. Give em a try I say. ^^

Meh I'm kind of a tight budget ATM xD
I did pick up Lunar: Silver Star Harmony for my PSP, great remake if you never played the PSX version. There is a demo on the PSN if you want to give it a shot.
By nepnep 2010-04-11 07:00:51
I would love to play that remake if I hadn't already beaten the version on PS1. >_< Great game though, still in the middle of Lunar 2. (which is even better so far btw)

I never got a chance to play Eternal Blue and I am afraid to see how much it costs online.
Too bad Dragonsong was a let down in every standard.
By nepnep 2010-04-11 07:19:49
lawl. But on the plus side, at least you get to fully enjoy the PSP version, and I wouldn't be surprised if the remade 2 as well. (that would be awesome!)

FFX-2 was a great game once you got into it, its just really slow to start.
Via Infinito is incredibly challenging. Made me rage so many times. Finishing the game @ 100% is also a great accomplishment, imo.

The 100% ending for X-2 made it worth playing.
This is why we can't have nice things!
