LOL BANDWAGON LOL
I liked everything about VIII other than the junction system.
I still play Triple Triad online lol.
I think you mean 7 was bandwagon not 6. And um the junction system was the major flaw in in 8, aside from the lame *** ending that made no sense. Triple Triad was the only fun thing in 8 lol! Even the mode of transportation, the flying school, was dumb.
I was talking about Bandwaggoning on disliking 8.
And Ragnarok was the main mode of transport in 8, and that was sexy. The Garden made sense too if you actually followed the storyline. (way too many people don't follow or understand the storyline of FF's.)
The characters were cool, the enemies looked cool, the GF development system was awesome and the setting of the storyline was really awesome.
FFVIII only had one major flaw, and that was the Junction system. (oh and the 1000 exp to level up dealy)

FF8 was terrible. I could not even get into the storyline because of how horrible the gameplay was. No progression, and so many breakable combos early on. (Sleep on weapon = Dead T-Rexaur during Tutorial when you're learning how to run from battles...) Unless FF8's story was a beacon of modern literary excellence, I doubt it's possible for me to think anything otherwise than FF8 is the low-point of the series.

I really tried to just focus on the story line and it just didn't work.

The only flaw of the Junction system was how easy it was to exploit.

lol u guys kill me. First it's bandwagon to love 7. Then it's bandwagon to love 6 hate on 8. Guess the only safe thing is to love 3 for the 4 onion kids, lol! And hate on 2 cause of how easy it was to level up weapon and magic levels!

The only problem I had with FFVIII was Time Compression. Had I known doing that would keep me from exploring more, I would've avoided it completely. D:

It's bandwaggoning hating 8 for such a shallow reason as (the flying school was dumb)
Every FF had flaws, and VIII was an extremely fun final fantasy (second favourite in fact)

I gotta agree with Enternius on this one. The FF fanboy bandwagon has fallen between VII and VI and the hate usually being divided between VIII and X.

9 was ok. I was kinda iffy when I first played it and anything that had treasure or a secret of some kind came up as a "!", but it was still a relief from 8.

People might hate on 2 but when you think about it,I feel they actually regressed when they made 3. 2 had characters, a full, coherent storyline that the entire game focused on, and a logical if not occaisionally infuriating level system. The characters were, at times, interesting, the fights kept me entertained, and most importantly to me, and I know I'm repeating this but it's important, they actually had characters with real personalities! You could rename them but they actually spoke and had individual lines and thoughts and were interesting. Then go onto 3 and you've got four onion kids, all of whom are exactly the same except for the color of their sprite. The storyline is fairly coherent, but it's a bit easier to get lost in my opinion. I dunno. I liked FF2.

I liked the story too, 2 was pretty ahead of its time.

But tbh the only ones I replay are 1 and 4. I can only lol at the fact I'm being called a fanboy. Idk what to say to that but yeah I hated 8 when it came out and still hate it, so then sure I'm a fanboy.

Exploitable? Yeah, I'll admit that. In the earlier versions especially where you could just go from battle to battle with low HP and have it continue to rise. They fixed it for the later versions, though. Aside from that... I still found grinding magic to be tedious, and getting everyone's skills up still took time and "leveling" just like any other FF. You just... spent a lot of time fighting yourself is all.

Yeah only problem it was easy to level weapons and magic up, but beyond that it was incredible for its time.

FF2 in general tended to have fantastic music (though I speak of this from the PS1 and on, I would also like to note they did pretty good work with what they had on the NES.) The major problem I have though is that for the most part, it would have a fantastic intro/sound great for the most part but then suddenly cut out/go nowhere/repeat. The main example of this is one of my favorite pieces from whole game, "Castle Pandaemonium." I'd say it's got one of my favorite intros of all time, but it's nothing BUT intro. Just as it gets interesting it repeats and that makes me sad.

Oh, no worries! I know you weren't saying you hated 2, rather saying other people had been hating on it. I just felt compelled to add my thoughts to the conversation, as I do occasionally. In fact I'm rather pleased as a fondness for FF2 is something I can agree with you about.

Ugh, nostalgia ~
I remember getting one of those gamer magazines before FF7 came out years ago, I kept it for a long time but I tossed it
It had a walkthrough for up to the second reactor I think
I hate nostalgia

Ever consider playing it on the NDS? I was very... displeased with the NES version when I played it, but on the DS with the updated system, music, and actual characters it was a bit more enjoyable.

Also I *** love XII, but looking at the team behind it and the handful of other games they've done, that's no surprise to me. I swear some of the criticisms that come out about these games just sound like people being so caught up in being huge nerds that they end up ruining it for themselves. With that said, it's always hard for me to compare the games just because they're in the same series due to how different they all are. I've liked every game in the series so far, though.
Amen to that! I really love XII too and I have a lot of difficulty understanding why so many people hated it!(Beside the fact that the story is similar to Star Wars I guess).
I'm actually replaying all the FF series (just started VI yesterday! ^^) and none of them is disappointing, just different. They all have a little something that is making me love them so much. If I had to pick a favorite it would probably be IV or VI because they are the ones I played the most when I was younger. I will always remember getting FFVI for Christmas in 1994! For all of January at school I was reading the booklet with the Moogle on the front page lol. Everytime I play it it brings me back to how blown away I was when I first played it. The music, the characters, Kefka's evil laugh!
If I had to pick which one is the best game I would not be able too, they all have something great to offer. I'm sure I'd be tired by now if they would not be always evolving. People who keep wanting all the new FF to be FF7 are discouraging me... innovation and change always been a strong point in this fantastic series.
I imagine some people would love it if it would be like the Street Fight II series! Could get Super Final Fantasy 7! Final Fantasy 7 Turbo! Super Final Fantasy 7 Turbo EX Alpha 3! ^^;

I only hate on FFVIII because of the junction system. Everything else about the game is fine. Its just a shame the junction system is a huge enough part of the game to affect it negatively.

Phoenix.Kojo said: Siren.Enternius said: So I suppose you guys think that the millions of people that are in love with FFVII are just joking? Of course it had its flaws. It would be stupid to say that it (Or any of the other FF games) didn't. But rather than focusing on the flaws of a game, you should focus on what made it actually good.
I'm listening...
I've been playing FF since I first got my FF1 cartridge for NES. I still sometimes go back and play NES games, so graphics is not a big deal to me. It's all about gameplay for me, when it's topped off with a decent story, then that makes things all the more interesting. Favorite game of all time would likely be Zelda III, so that should give you an idea of what I like to play.
I think most people can say that no matter how you play any Final Fantasy, you're going to spend at least 25% in battles or prepping for battles. Safe to say, if you don't like battles then gtfoFF. For FF7, this took the cake for me. They really make the materia system customizable. Make your character a beast DD? Fewer materia.. (at least until later)
FF8 battle system: "Ah! New boss.. spend the next hour drawing spells from this *** even though he's at 10HP.." Does this make sense? lolno. If you liked FF8's battle system.. yeah I don't know wtf is wrong with you. :x The story was good, I enjoyed it, it was much more involved than FF7, but it's downright too painful for me to play again.
Most FFs before FF7 were great battle systems. They knew the model was good because it sold well in the past. Characters had their own specific abilities that they could use and you picked them based on that.
FF9 was a throw-back to the old-school style, which ended up being one of my favorites for sure.
FFX grid was ok, but it just felt too grueling to me. You'd follow some path and if it sucked you'd know.. For instance, put everyone on Khimari's path and see how well all your characters turn out <.<. Also, the game itself seemed too linear. Lack of a free-motion airship just makes me sad. :/
My 2 cents of why I liked FF7 the most.
EDIT: Also, who can't love the completely absurd, ridiculously way-over-the-top summoning cut-scenes in FF7! Think Neo Bahamut and ZERO.. lol

Odin.Zicdeh said: I found FFIX to be the best of the series, and I'll say why just cause I'm bored waiting for goddamn Morille Mortelle to pop.
FFIX had the most compelling villain of all the PSone Final Fantasy Games. It was nothing short of amazing following his(or her, I never really DID figure that one out...) journey from metrosexual manipulation mastermind, through s/him's emotional breakdown that eventually lead it down the path of total batshit crazy. One can almost sympathize with Kuja's plight as well, considering the implications. An observant FF player would note Kuja and Sephiroth share a lot of basic similarities in character, the whole "Misunderstood my origin/purpose now I must kill everything" but Kuja was handled with a lot more subtlety and grace, especially in the first acts of the game, where it's almost like a calculated game of chess to knock out the most powerful city-states of Alexandria and Lindblum. Sephiroth pretty much went "I'm mad, here's a meteor, thx".
Of course, they had to virtually ruin all that with the "True" last boss, one which was totally unnecessary, similar to what happened with FFX and Yu Yevon. At least in FFVII, the last boss is the *** you've been chasing for 30-80 hours.
I dunno, I kind of liked that last boss. Maybe because it felt like Earthbound to me.

If you think about it, and think about the concept of FFIX, Necron was absolutely necessary.
FFIX paid tribute to every single Final Fantasy before it, because that's what it was meant to do; it was meant to be a final goodbye to all previous Final Fantasies before they went into X. FFIX wasn't even suppose to exist, but some members of Square wanted to go through with it (i.e, X was actually suppose to be IX).
Necron pays tribute to Neo-Exdeath from FFV. Neo-Exdeath has absolutely no role in the storyline whatsoever, but you end up fighting him anyway. The way FFIX pays tribute to V is by introducing a last boss similar to Neo-Exdeath, which has absolutely no purpose in the game as well, and wants to destroy everything, including himself just as Neo-Exdeath wanted to do.
That's why I love IX so much, simply because it paid tribute to previous FFs.
Can't wait 'til IX's on the PSN :x
EDIT: My take on FFXII.
Game is simply amazing, hands down. However, my only gripe about the game is half way through (I want to say after you've rescued Ashe from the Leviathan), the game makes it obvious that you'll be running from point A to point B throughout the entire game, which annoyed me.
Also the storyline starts to suck major *** after the Leviathan. YEAH WE GOT TO GET ASHE THAT STONE SO SHE CAN PROVE THAT SHE REALLY IS WHO SHE SAYS SHE IS.
YEAAAAAAH NOW WE GOTTA GO AND GET THIS BLADE THING SO WE CAN CUT THE STONE.
etc etc
I just think they could have done a better job delivering the storyline instead of the way they did it. Everything else about XII is pretty awesome, however. Gambit system is so broken its fun.
Also the long fights (Hell Wyrm, Yiazmat) are all incredibly fun, especially the first time through. XII is one of those games I can't get enough of.
At least with XIII the characters didn't know wtf they were going to do or what their next course of action was. Everything pretty much came up as the story moved along, which was great. I like surprises.
