So, since I've still been having trouble w/ PMs, but it's fixed for others, my problem has probably been this.

Quite frequently, I'm "logged out" in the sense that my avatar no longer shows up, I can't post or reply, ect until i refresh the page 2-10 times and my guy pops back up. If i try to go to the log in page, it'll either say that I'm already logged in or just take me back to the log in page as if I've entered nothing.

I guess its also been interfering w/ my PMs due to the fact as it'll consider me not logged in when I want to send them most of the time and not send them.

There was a thread before on this too but everyone seemed to kinda get brushed off. I also find myself constantly "logged out" so I always have to log in multiple times per day. Usually when ive been idle on the site for a while.

Well a cookie value is responsible for automatically logging you back in when your session expires. The session can expire after a short period of time. After which, the cookie will try to automatically log you back in. The cookie expires after a month, and after each successful login (automatic or regular) the cookie is regenerated and expiration date refreshed.

Some things that can cause the cookie to not log you in:

Browser doesn't accept cookie.
Cookie gets deleted (client side).
A failed login attempt.
You get banned from the site.
An admin manually removed cookie value (server side).
Cookie simply expired.
Trying to use multiple ffxiah accounts.
or some bug I don't know about yet

Well, I've logged in plenty of times w/o removing cookies, and done so on multiple IPs so I know that isn't the issues. Even on a fresh log in, by the time I go to the next page, I can be logged out and refresh and back in. Had to refresh this page 3 times to reply and just logged in, lol.

How do you delete the individual cookie and did this solve the problem?

If you are using firefox, it is in the preferences or called options. There's a tab where it has the clear cookies. Thr should be an option to see the cookies, find the cookie and remove it.

You can also go to the folder where your browser is installed, and find the cookies folder.

It worked for me

Tools > Options > Privacy tab > here you need to click the dropdown box for "Use Custom Settings" in the box next to "Firefox will:" which will show you a button labeled "Show Cookies" where you can then delete specific sites or clear all of them.

A secondary suggestion for the general crowd (don't think this applies to Vegetto's problem), but if you're using CCleaner, be aware that it may also be cleaning cookies, cache, history and even passwords. This sometimes happens when people have it set to run automatically on a schedule at start-up or some such and don't realize it cleans applications too. CCleaner can be customized to clean only some parts or none at all for Firefox.

If it's any consolation, this happens quite a bit to me as well. =) It seems especially prevalent when I've recently logged in from multiple machines/IP's.

It works perfectly fine at school when I use my Firefox Portable.

Which, btw, is soooooooo much better than my situation at home. Now if only I could manage to bring a portable version of FFXI on this flash drive, that would pretty much set things.

and OMG.

npnp, I actually had to open up the actual menu a few times, didn't realize there were so many steps involved. lol

I remember AH having a similar issue months ago, I think I even PM'd Jaerik about it at the time, but it was cleared up pretty quickly. Hopefully for the sake of troubleshooting it's something similar. For the record I haven't experienced any of this and alternate between 2 machines regularly, but they're behind the same router so I'm not sure how/if external IPs are affected by separate mac addressees as far as AH giving a ***.

lol, I'm forgiving for cell phone, Anye, BUT NORMALLY IT WOULD BE STORMING SHITS RIGHT NOW

Now I AM on a proxy, so I'll try it when I get home, as for CC, I have it, but only clear stuff maybe once a month or so, so even clearing cookies, it won't auto log me in, but then when i enter the password once (well at least for other sites) things work as normal again.

This really is an odd situation.... Maybe you should consider deleting and redownloading the newest version of Firefox? It could be a glitch in the version that you have.

Boo, that would take too long, checking them individually. how do i get it to prompt me to upgrade? usually when it does that it'll tell me which are/aren't compatible before I hit ok or decline

Help -> "Check for updates", 2nd to last section of that menu.

Also, it tells you which add-ons might be rendered non-functional before it actually upgrades.

Don't worry about FFXI Helper, there's a better one/an update:

FFXI Helper 2.0.1

Also:
E4ZUNE | ORBIT DOWNLOADER 1.0.1 (Just click the box that says "Let me install this experimental add-on."

Coral IE Tab 1.80.20100224

RapidShare Download Helper

There ya go~ They're all 3.6-compatible.^^

The login system is designed to give a unique cookie key per browser you use. So in theory, using multiple browsers shouldn't be a problem. If you seldom use a particular browser, the cookie can still expire though.

Clearing cookies for this domain and starting fresh is a good option.

If you're able to recreate the problem, let me know. I took a look over the code, it seems pretty straight forward and there aren't massive amounts of complaints. Which has happened before.

I am thinking it's a client issue, but not dismissing the possibility of a bug.
