manipulation is a very broad term that most people interpret as something very diabolical and destructive... in fact, according to my psychology school book here, if you smile to someone, and that person smiles back, you have manipulated him/her... and you're not the devil

99% of the time, being PERSUASIVE implies using words to convince someone, while "manipulation" is a general term that includes seducing, persuade, convince, threaten, etc. all different kinds of manipulations, some wrong, some perfectly acceptable

now if you guys are going to fight over whether or not manipulation is wrong, at least make sure to bring a good dictionary, because arguments like this are pointless if you don't even agree on the word's meaning

By definition, I've always thought manipulation of people is to: influence or control shrewdly or deviously.

To manipulate a object is: control or influence skillfully, usually to one's advantage.

The use of the word bothered me. I didn't mean to drag it out and I apologized. :P

oh , yeah, being romantic... well i guess i have to mention how I met my girlfriend on the 25th of december 2001, and we had been "talking" for 3 months on ICQ (before MSN stole the idea) and we ended up (somehow >.>) meeting on a 25th of december... and the weird part is when we met, like 5 minutes later (it was the first time meeting in person) and we were holding hands... that was weird, but it felt good, and we were extremely shy and confused about it, and we got lost like 3 times trying to get the the skating rink, at the end of some shopping mall corridor, both laughing about the fact we were following each others

are we're now 8 years together, and every Christmas is particularly special ^^ are we're not particularly interested in marrying because, whether you like it or not, that comes from very old and outdated religious traditions and we'd rather make our own traditions than follow our ancestors naive faith ^^ but we have other ways to feel happy about the relationship, maybe someday we'll marry, on a very casual basis, if we feel like it, and to make the parents shut up :)

in my own male understanding, what most women describe as "romance" sounds like those sailor moon books with teenage girls dreaming about some older (borderline homosexual, somehow attracted to her) dude coming to the rescue and my girlfriend says it's sad that she grow up with the stories, never telling what we need to know about a relationship, never telling us how we need to improve, but rather that we may find the "perfect someone" if we look hard enough... which is BS

to me, romantic is when suddenly we decide to just go for a walk and think about the days... breathe the air around us, smiling silently, feeling great because we know the time and efforts were not wasted

Megan and I actually were laughing about this, as it does come off a bit like that, but it was more determination than obsession >.>b. I knew megan loved me, and she was declining me for other reasons I didnt not mention here. Honestly I cut out 80% of the love/drama, its a lot o.o;; And we had to go grocery shopping so I had to cut it ;;

Hey - i just wanted to update to people who care about it, that the couple are now getting married (: i'd like to thank everyone that posted a positive comment to the thread a great deal as i suggested all of these ideas so a very scared guy (: he finally decided that Seraph.Atalia (12 years / 12 memories) was the way to go and they went around the country visiting 12 very special places in there life, eventually ending up in a tree where they had shared there first kiss - i just hope that something as nice as this happens to everyone who posted nice things :D.

They will be getting married hopefully in November this year and i wish them the best of luck..

Hey woooooooooooooooo matey, im not bad (: got myself a job, hoping to come back to FF HOPEFULLY - just need to get around to reinstalling, house has been pretty busy for reasons you know etc, but everythings starting to settle now, xmas and new year out of the way, and everythings starting to look up again.

I proposed to my wife in Kildare, Ireland...

My sweetie and I do a lot of romantic things for each other randomly, whenever we feel like it (we don't keep to a holiday schedule with our romantic gestures, gift-giving, et cetera).

But the most romantic thing he's done recently, without even knowing it would mean so much, was a spontaneous, open, simple expression of caring.

We were sitting on the couch together late one night/early morning around 4 am. I was playing FFXI and he was playing Civilization (our consoles are side by side, and we have two televisions side by side as well, so we can hang out while we play whatever, if we're not playing the same game).

We were laughing about some HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE thing I'd done in the game, and he suddenly said to me, all seriously, "I want you to know, I'm so happy that we're… you know, the way we are together." And I could see that he actually got a little teary-eyed as he said it. That got me teary-eyed because he doesn't often say things like that out of the blue.

I mean, we have the most awesome relationship, because we're best friends and have SO MUCH freaking fun together, but we also have an intense, passionate, extremely satisfying sex life, which from what I hear is very rare seven years into a relationship.

But even knowing that, it still moved me more than I can express, to see he doesn't take what we have for granted, and I dunno, it just meant a lot to me, that little moment between us. I'll never forget it.

When I was in high school I was asked out by a guy who taped a piece of paper saying "Will you go out with me?" to a taco bell hot sauce packet.

Haha! I don't know why, but that reminded me of when I was in the eighth grade. This guy, one of my very first crushes, got sick and threw up in class. For some reason, I chose that time to write a note telling him that I "liked" him. I asked to be excused, went to the nurse's office where the kid was lying on a cot, and gave him the note.

What the hell? I mean, he did reciprocate (I had gotten my boobs earlier than most girls, and upon retrospect that's probably all he saw) and we dated for a bit -- NO, we didn't do the deed. It was eighth grade! -- but what was with my timing? I don't know.

Also, where did I get the guts to make the first move? Very unlike me. ^^

when i was in college i bought my ex a couple roses for her bday and randomly walked into her packed classroom and handed them to her giving her a kiss on her cheek tellin her i love her..her face got so red..she was so cute.
we went out for a lil over 3 years and got engaged but things fell apart and we went our seperate ways..not really bad break up just dif career choices i guess.

I had a local park about .5 miles from my house. I set up a picnic table with a table cloth, plates, silverware, and a bottle of Asti. My girlfriend was coming to meet me right after work at the park. She gets there, we walk to the table and sit down. I pull out 2 menu's that I made up and laminated.
There was only Salad for before dinner and a Porter House or Filet with lump crab meat on top for the main course. She was wondering whats going on...just then, my mother (once a 4 star restaurant waitress) came out dressed professinal in a suit and acted like she didn't know us. She took our order, went back to the car, and made the salads up. After she brought us our salads, told us our dinner would be ready shortly, and went to the car and drove .5 miles to the house where my father was already preparing the meal. A short time later, she comes back with our dinners and serves us like normal customers (always professional, pretending not to know us). It was an amazing dinner in the park. When it was all said and done, we had to clean up on our own as my mother was done with her role in my plan.
As my girlfriend was packing up the dinner stuff, she turned to throw away the napkins and disposable stuff. When she turned back around, I was on my knee with the ring fully extended hands shaking terribly. Her first response... "oh my god, what are you doing". To which I replied "what does it look like, I love you, and want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me."
After she said yes, we went back to my parents where my mother, father, sister, and her husband were anxiously waiting with a big congratulatory cake. One of my better moments as a man, I must admit. We have been married 3.5 years now and it's been absolutely wonderful...
