F2p with a 75 cap is actually amazing imo. I'm going to make a 75 BRD character and it'll be better than Joachim and Ulmia combined because it'll just give me two goddamned marches.

I'm 100% buying four discounted ffxi copies and making a bunch of free alts, though. I can get them through all of the missions and the vast majority of game content for free before I have to decide if I want to pay for them monthly or not. If I don't end up using them and never find the time to do that content (as predicted), I'm only out like $20.

All the lvl 99 and under gear you want are available for free* via the NPC, private server stan.

Trial can only hold 100k so its not like they could buy a damn thing anyway (and not allowed to use AH)

reverting HNMs
reverting limbus
reverting dynamis
reverting salvage
nobody is going to quit a private server to play 75 trial. please try to use your head.

It's pretty miserable as a retail player who started a fresh character to share the game with a new player as is. After 50, you're to just roll in AF for dozens of levels. Accessories and more aren't available unless they're NQs from RoEs.
New player doesn't learn about gear swapping until way too late.
It makes the game look deader than it is to a new player.
Now imagine it worse for a free trial character.
The game is $10 for a copy and 30 days many times a year. I don't know why they bother with the free trial at all.

Except for the not insignificant amount of people who play on pirate servers because it's free.
The fact is, more new players will now try out actual FFXI rather than feel compelled to dip in to the RMT dramatorama hellscapes that are pirate servers. That's a good thing.

sorry buddy, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. there are far too many trial restrictions for even leveling to 75 to feel enjoyable.
not to mention most of these areas are an absolute ghost town. increasing it from 50 to 75 is not going to move the needle. you are incredibly dumb if you think so. or you are giving the 75 cap "experience" far more credit than it's due.

I can't see this posing any threat to private servers. The free trial limits all interaction with the economy and tons of other things. Even if the private server poors don't want to pay, SE has to at least make the game playable to get them back.
I don't really get further courting people who can't be bothered to come up with the $10 for a copy of the game and 30 days. Does that sound like a probable recurring customer for a sub fee that's a few dollars more?
