I wonder why this happens, I'm guessing it has to be that they input the text in some archaic piece of software, or it's done by one of the JP developers on a Japanese machine?

Only SE can rally up a large customer base with something like free Bonanza Weapons for every character...and then lose a chunk (all?) of that good faith with this many typos and mistakes.
...it's going to take a lot of XL T-Shirts to restore faith and make up for this blunder... ;)

Wow, almost 35 years and I never noticed that! Gungnir is also misspelled, but many languages have less correct translation to english (I think there are many norse, greek, arabic words that have multiple 'correct' translations.)
Square (and subsequent companies) has always been below par.
One of the earliest works in the entire fantasy genre (Pilgrims Progress by John Bunyan) has some perpetually creative spellings throughout the entire work. Of course it was written at a time when maybe 10% (being generous I think) of population could read and no dictionaries existed, but spelling the same word more than 1 way on the same page is a bit...I dunno.
