At least with new Limbus I can do a floor or two, take a work call, get a coffee, do some work around house etc etc. Rebuff myself, kill some more trash. I can play it at my own pace and I miss nothing by not maximizing my speed/potential. It's a grind that I can do in small bits and still achieve something without having to be engaged 100% for the time I am playing. The gear is not groundbreaking and I can't store it yet either, so I don't have to make dozens of pieces right away, but slow progress is still progress. I AFK in this zone for days and I don't have to rezone or get new vorseals or whatever. Can pick it back up at any point. No horrible drop rates to crush my hope. So that's a small plus in my book. Granted the content is not complete too, there are small tweaks I can envision. It's very relaxing and well thought imho, with its soft gates that leave a lot of freedom to tackle the content the way you want, when you want. I missed this feeling. Last but not least, it's not instanced! Gives a wonderful feeling of being in an MMO instead of in an online game with 5 other friends. There's also the larger than 6 part. Is it less efficient? It totally is, but just the fact that it's a possibility... well, I find it awesome honestly. If I still ran an event based LS like I did for many years before new content (or lack thereof) killed it, I know I would set up Limbus events for sure. Yes the AF+4 is slightly lackluster and the content overall, beside all the pros I listed, is a bit dull. Hopefully NMs will add the pepper it's missing, without making it too restrictive or excessively grindy (the amount of grind is already a bit higher than it should if you ask me, considering the level of upgrade you get from these pieces) Lakshmi.Buukki said: » The difference is I have to be glued to my screen for an entire hour during Sortie, almost impossible to do anything else (bathroom, run away from computer momentarily etc). Some people really do not have lives outside of a video game and just don't get how important this aspect is. I'd love for the gear to be a bit better, I suspect there will be another round in another month or two. Each job has 1~3 items that objectively better to use, especially if it's something they wear in TP / DT / WS, that is sufficient to motivate people to do the event. On Asura the zones are always filled with people doing stuff. Asura.Sechs said: » Granted the content is not complete too, there are small tweaks I can envision. I wonder if/when they release NMs (Ultima + Omega eventually as Mega Bosses), that they might make them more like open world content: Besieged/Domain Invasion, and less instanced: Sortie/Odyssey. They are putting a lot of focus and work into allowing everyone to do the same content at the same time without needing a reservation or dedicated time block. I could see the lower NMs being something like old Dynamis NMs that pop randomly and must be claimed and killed for whatever drop or points they give out, but Omega/Ultima being a zone-boss that everyone can fight at once and earn large amounts of Units/new currency that needs to be farmed at regular intervals (Mireu as an example). Interested to see how they implement NMs into these zones nonetheless. I personally imagine the NM system a tiered one, with some nms that pop, some that you have to pop.
Killing them gives you units and some unique drops. Last but not least, a KI. Once you collect all the KIs (in a typical tiered system) you can access Omega and Ultima, which will be instanced and will allow even a full alliance. That's just my personal view but I'm not a game designer and I sure as hell am not a SE dev so... Just a theory atm but TBH the temenos ??? almost feels like its there for 72 hrs then just disappears off the face of the earth for 72 more hrs THEN repops. It hasnt been seen in the first 3 days of any limbus week thus far. If that's what it is doing, wont be seen on Asura till like Wednesday afternoon PST. Pretty sure the first week it was found Friday. Last week was Thursday.

Pretty sure the first week it was found Friday. Last week was Thursday. yeah, no. That's not what we been witnessing. you can clearly claim it every pop, and so far we found Apollyon every 72 hours. that part is clear. Not sure what trigger the pop, random or a kill or anything else though, and only been true on apollyon so far. Temenos is a big mystery so far for us, and didnt find any piece of information that I found interesting, nor the ??? lol So what in klayy's post do you disagree with? Nothing you said disproves his theory.
What are the odds that everyone whos done full runs through temenos or used the packet injection to detect the ??? all happen to catch it on its downed window?
I'm more inclined to believe that it disappears off the face of the earth for 72 hours because someone kills the ITG mob on one of the ramps (portal ramp or the ones in the open area) and the game cant figure out the z-axis so it just refuses to spawn it.
ijs... It would be weird if the two zones didn't behave the same or similarly at least. Apollyon has reliably repopped within hours every window. I wanna say we're on like the 6th ot 7th ???. On Asura at least, we've only seen 2 ??? in tem.. and the first one wasn't for like 4 days. The next one wasn't for 6 days. Im just floating the idea that maybe it's coded wrong and the 72hrs is being applied on both the length of times it stays and then again before it can repop. If so, it's either a bug or intended that way. But so far, it's been every 6th day. And tomorrow is the sixth day.
At this point I'm leaning toward that more than I am "well ppl might have trained it to portal, warped up, then it just reclassified at IEP and that was that" Though I'm still entertaining that. People who have a life and commitment outside of the game know how events that are harder but less grindy are better for them. It's much easier to plan around, say, Dynamis, Sortie and Oddy than to have something that's grindy and open-ended. I can login for 1 hour at night and bounce. I'd figure most adults would fit this category. I'm much less interested in an event where you can just bot it with alts. That's why I didn't resent Oddy - even tho what made it difficult was the lot of RnG - very difficult, but game changing reward. Godfry said: » It's much easier to plan around, say, Dynamis, Sortie and Oddy than to have something that's grindy and open-ended. Because Dynamis, ok. Odyssey uhm... highly debateable, I wouldn't personally agree but I can see how it could make sense. But Sortie?! An "event that is less grindy and open-ended"? Wut?! Godfry said: » I can login for 1 hour at night and bounce. I'd figure most adults would fit this category. Yeah, what time? Can you make it at, say 9:30 EST? Every single day? Can you guarantee no interruptions during that timeframe? If so, cool. Bonus if 5 other people can also commit to that exact time 5-7 days a week, you now have a static. But will you ever need a night off, two, a week, a weekend, etc? Will missing a day here or there interrupt the rest of the group's progress or activity, or at least make it a little challenging to fill your spot? Will someone else have a conflict? If you have nothing else going on most nights and can spare an hour at a designated time, awesome. I doubt most adults fit into the kind of routine endlessly. People will do it because they are interested in the goal and the progress is steady and predictable, but the structure is not preferred. I guarantee you, though most players probably do not like Limbus much right now (and let's be honest, it's the quality of the gear they really don't like), they would MUCH rather have Sortie designed similarly to Limbus where you can make progress at any time of the day, all day, every day, little or large, multiple times, than to have to do it once per night for 1 hour for 6 months. The latter only benefits the players who can commit to the daily time investment. The former benefits all players equally. It's very clear to me that SE has designed this content around player feedback, and probably a bit of attrition too. They didn't just make it this way blindly; players said they wanted more stuff to do on their own terms/pace, friendly content (in groups or solo). It would have been easy to make this content similar to lockout-style Odyssey/Sortie Dynamis. The fact that they chose this style means they thought this structure would be less formal/demanding on your time than the aforementioned events. And there can be room for both structures of events in an MMO. In hindsight there were so many potentially good things for Sortie, not all worked out fine alas, and strangely enough they didn't tweak them after release.
I mean, not getting everything right at launch is perfectly acceptable in my eyes, but refusing to tweak even the tiniest thing is kinda... stupid? Despite the things potentially good but that didn't completely work out, and the many other parts which were very fine, there were also other aspects that were completely wrong. People cope with all of that simply because the rewards are very good. Sad but true, but at the end of the day such a shiny golden carrot on the stick will make (most) people cope with pretty much anything. I completely agree with Buukki it would be the same for Limbus if only those +4 upgrades were as unrealistically good as some dreamer-people were expecting them to be. People said in here they could sleep the pixies with Shockwave, but I haven't had any success sleeping them with it at all. Max Macc set, ML42, Helheim for max Macc skill... no dice. Everything else in Limbus has been good (well Dark and Light Ghrahs also seem to resist it).
Y'all sleeping the pixies on lower floors or lower levels or something? Using any special sets? Someone in LS said Pixies do not sleep at all (Shockwave or otherwise). Entomb works fine, though.
Asura.Vyre said: » People said in here they could sleep the pixies with Shockwave, but I haven't had any success sleeping them with it at all. Are you trying to sleep the white or the black ones? I haven't tried myself but 2 different people reported shockwave working on white ones, I see no reason why they should be lying. Only things I tried personally are Dream Flower, Sheep Song, Sleepga, Lullaby. None of those work. Breakga and Entomb seem to be working fine instead. Either. Though I tend to only get agro/linking problems with the white ones.
I just tried shockwave a few times against the white pixies in limbus and it didn't sleep any of them despite a high acc and macc set.
To Sechs and Buukki, I agree with your comments. Also, I used sortie as timed event that's easier to fit in my schedule, but the fact that they made the grind huge, not difficult, is where they lost me. They could have kept the hardmode bosses with double the rewards.
Limbus could also have both, you either grind it with an easier path, or you kill something extremely strong and reap a bigger reward. I still disagree with Buukis take on being able to do stuff throughout the day. I work throughout the day and can only play at certain times at night, and ,again, i think this goes for most adults. Thw driving force behind ffx11 has always been the challenge, not the grind. Im never proud to say i sunk 6 months into a prime. Sure, but the point is for sortie you also have to arrange your playtime around your group (wtf 6 boxes sortie) so you can't just pop on for 1hr whenever you feel like. But you can with limbus. Seems like I am having a hard time passing my point across. Events that are interesting to me are events that very difficult with big rewards. I'm not asking it to be an instance. It can be an NM I can pop at any time. Like trials. Yeah, I can play limbus any time. What's the challenge? Why do I care for something that can be accomplished by bots, with rewards that don't even beat what I already have? If your goal is to AFK bot limbus, you're gonna be stuck at 30k max units.
Granted the current limit is 100k, thats still a decent cut. Carbuncle.Nynja said: » If your goal is to AFK bot limbus, you're gonna be stuck at 30k max units. Granted the current limit is 100k, thats still a decent cut. 30k at a time. Then you can just spend the points and bot again...right? |
