Mog Locker Lease And The End Of Final Fantasy XI.

Someone in my LS was doing an experiment on how far the mog locker lease could be extended until it craps out or will no longer take coins for extension.

Turns out that the max lease is somewhere near January 14th, 2070. Every coin is worth 5 days, so it may be a little more than that.

My conclusion to this is that there is an internal UNIX timer on a 32 bit signed integer, that has been running since the initial deployment of the servers.

Once that timer reaches 2147483647 seconds, which is 68,1 years, the next second, it will overflow and the whole server will most likely have issues or crash, as the unix time becomes negative, and the date will suddenly be March 5, 1933. Hopefully, there will be an update in early 2070 to address this problem.

It also means that the servers were deployed somewhere around December 20, 2001. Perhaps christmas?

The positive thing about this is that I most likely won't live long enough to experience that. Or humanity for that matter.

Pop some back in 2010 because I got annoying with having to redo it. The date expires the 24th of this month lol. Thought surely I or this game won't make it to 2024. Glad I saw this post may see if I can just push it to that and be done.

This was me, I did no math here. I came back to the game in 2017 lined up locker to 2024. I didn't think I'd be playing this long but nobody wakes up and decides to be a junkie. Mog said my lease was coming up so like any good DD I just started pumping.

What was kinda cool was once I hit the upper limit, I started trading less and less coins until singles was the only thing they would take. To anyone who bought my overflow of coins at well below market value, there's still more listed.

I had a gold coin left over from doing a mythic and saw that my timer was close about 4 years ago, so I broke a gold coin down to all the bronzes and now my locker doesn't expire till Sept 9, 2047. I think I am good.
