That one doesnt make any sense because 1 brother surely only paid 8 and the other 2 brothers paid 9 and 8 between the 2 of them because they got 3 bucks back. 2 of which were put into wallets. and the last dollor one of them has but wasnt walleted. either im missing something here or this is worded badly

The way i read it:
Initial Cost $30; 3 brothers = each paid 10.
each get $1 back => Each paid $9
9 x 3 = $27 + $2 kid had = $29
o.o

It's because... They paid $9 each to equal $27. Then the kid kept $2 to equal the cost of the room being $25.
Or...
3x10 = 30
30-5 = 25
25+2 = 27
27+1+1+1 = 30.
Or...
