Aside: I have mentioned I have a friend who is a 2ed amendment fundamentalist and an ex cop. He is in the forefront of fighting red flag laws in NM. He is well versed on the subject and never mentions "mass confiscations."

mass confiscations only haven't happened because of millions of people like your friend defending 2A. The left is CONSTANTLY pushing and trying to pass legislation for "assault rifle bans," "mandatory gun buybacks (LiKe aUstrAliA!)", etc. States like california have severely limited what types of guns, magazines, accessories, etc their citizens can possess. It's been made very difficult or virtually impossible to obtain a carry license in many leftist-controlled cities and states.

Yet the entire time leftist groups are screaming about banning guns, they're also on TV going "huh? us? lol no no of course we don't want to confiscate your guns, believe us ;)" Then they show up to D.C. the next day to propose new anti-gun legislation.

It's all a game and based on emotional manipulation. The vaaaaaaaast majority of gun crime is committed with handguns and by gang members. Rifles of any kind account for like 6% of gun-related violence. So you'd think these leftist groups should logically be demanding handgun bans and not rifles, right? They target rifles because they can emotionally manipulate simple people by lying and showing pictures of rifles and telling people they look really scary. Their goal is to set a legal precedent with banning and confiscating rifles, and then use that small opening to leverage the same with handguns.

What's even crazier is that they used to be sneakier about it, but lots of leftist politicians flat out admit that they want this now. That's how far left the left has gone.

Fail the "ammunition background check", they come in and seize all firearms and good luck getting them back. Right now the State of California is looking for any reason to seize as many firearms as possible. This is mass confiscation.

So, um, you've heard of this Constitution thing, right? It, uh, kinda prevents that. Even in your liberal fantasy world where Trump dreams of being a dictator, that does not make him one. Beyond that, dictators emerge when there is a perfect storm that allows them to grab that kind of power, and there is absolutely no chance that Trump could make that kind of move even if he wanted to in the current political and social climate. He would need the media to be complicit (which is vastly against him), he would need Congress to be complicit (which is half against him), he would need the courts to be complicit (which aren't even close to being radical enough to support such a thing), and he would need enough of the citizenry to be complicit (not happening).
