Random Politics & Religion #36
Mary sue female characters are woke. They might not be preachy, but their 1-dimensional nature us a hat tip to “gurl powah”. She isnt sigourney weaver in aliens or linda hamiltion in terminator, flawed characters with conflict you can identify with. Its “hey look at her go” which simply isnt something people want to see.
I just hope the next Avengers doesn't turn into Justice League. The movie was mildly entertaining at first, but.... It had one of the least interesting final battles of any recent superhero movie.
Wouldn't worry about it.
Regardless of gender...the entire comic book movie thing is so played...so played. How many super heroes did these sons of *** make ?
I'd be ok if they never made another comic book movie ever. fonewear said: » Regardless of gender...the entire comic book movie thing is so played...so played. They exist purely to entertain the audience via a fantastic fun spectacle, their not supposed to be deep or speak on social issues. The movies still were fun fests with great graphics and their share of explosions. I'm not a movie fan in general expect for Film Noir and old movies on TCM.
Most movies today are just not my cup of tea. Too long. Too many sequels. Bad special effects. Give me a good story and good acting. That is all I want from a movie. I agree with this I remember when people were talking about Wonder Woman as if it was some monumental step forward for women...it's a damn comic book movie... The movies still were fun fests with great graphics and their share of explosions. It was pretty much inherent to the story, and there wasn't a singular "woke" message being pushed because even the mutants couldn't agree on what their place in the world should be. Black Panther had a similar struggle in its story. These aren't the types of social issues that we're taking about, because they make sense in their own spheres. We're talking about characters going out their way to push social issues in stories that are obviously pandering to Leftists. Superman endorsing globalism, Wonder Woman having a pro-choice story arc, Thor fighting against anthropomorphic climate change, etc. Captain Marvel has a long history in the comics, she didn't need to be portrayed as a "All women are strong. I'm a woman. Men are idiots. YOU WILL RESPECT ME!" kind of character. If you can't portray a woman as a strong role model without casting a brick statue with makeup on and giving her ridiculous powers, then you suck as a writer. There are some good comic book movies...but you are almost guaranteed to have too many sequels ruining the franchise. Sorta like Star Wars.
It is what they did to my beloved Simpsons. I kinda think of the Simpsons as my favorite childhood show...and see modern episodes as the terrible sequels. I don't even know what Captain Marvel is...so let me speculate...super powerful strong woman that kills bad guys. And does it all wearing high heels ?
I'm probably not the person you would go to to talk about Comic Book movies...I'm too much of a cynical ***...I'd probably roll my eyes and wonder why the movie is 120 minutes long.

Just saw this monstrosity. Easily the worst MCU movie made. Larson was a terrible choice for the role, you literally are looking for ANY other character to step in and save the movie when she’s on screen alone.
Not overflowing with woke-ness but its definitely there, and it’s exacerbated by Larson’s terrible acting. Her only purpose is to be the overpowered “mary sue”. Oh well, heres hoping she disappears after endgame. Would be a terrible investment for the MCU to dump any more money into her. It is a terrible tactic to persuade people from their money. We’re also not talking about sensible social commmentary. We’re talking about modern “im offended, change your mind” feminism.

They don’t care about money, they are willing to ruin starwars and anything else just so they can preach their ideology. Nausi said: » ... Chanti, kale is good for you, but there’s a reason no one brings it to a superbowl party. But how abput that big red cheese? Nausi said: » Just saw this monstrosity. Easily the worst MCU movie made. I dunno if Shazam was more or less interesting than the other dozen or so Captain Marvels that came after, but that suit is top notch.
Wasnt the lawsuit against the likeness between Captian’ marvel and superman?
Thats Shazam. Nausi said: » Just saw this monstrosity. Easily the worst MCU movie made. Oh well, heres hoping she disappears after endgame. Would be a terrible investment for the MCU to dump any more money into her. That's the issue. Idiotic Hollywood writers interesting *** social commentary into their scripts can be overlooked if the acting and spectacle is there. Take out the good acting and fantastic spectacle and all you have left is the "woke" social commentary, which isn't liked nor wanted in the first place. it was a mistake that Kevin Feige wanted to introduce a new character with us so close to Avengers Endgame. why should we care about ANY new superheroes, male or female in the final act right now? Marvel should have made a standalone film with a character we already knew, or waited until after Endgame to introduce a new one. plus choosing Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck to direct was another dumb choice.
i don't think social commentary/feminism can really be the problems here, while Wonder Woman made over $800 million and has 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. it was just a good movie and Patty Jenkins is a solid director. Shiva.Shruiken said: » i don't think social commentary/feminism can really be the problems here, It's the lack of anything else redeemable in the film and thus it's only left with SJW feminist BS. Creating a new character wasn't an issue, it was the decision to poorly cast the main character and not give a damn about the script. i havent seen it yet- just moreso that i'm not even interested in seeing it in the first place. dumb origin story just to set up this new OP person to show up in Endgame and save everyone. hope she won't be as OP in Endgame as i fear

In the end she gets her montage where she repeatedly stands up to them as she standa up to the actual supervillan, and thats it, thats all there is to her. |
