Michael Jackson in a tree:

Get woke, go broke. Yeah, safe to say there is no danger of any Marvel movie being worse than *** Last Jedi. Incoming 1 billion dollar revenue.
Rotten tomatoes has audience score in the low 40s. Lower than jedi.
Who cares. Last Jedi is the worst Star Wars movie ever made, thus far. Ep 9 will be hot trash I'm sure. There is an effort to have it declared non-canon, since it retconned essentially the entire series. It was *** from start to finish.
Not that audience score means a *** thing anymore thanks to Call of Duty review bombs.
The critics are below 80%. Thats first Thor territory. RT deleted over 30k “wrong think” reviews today as well.
Vic just loves his social constructs. Even in movie reviews he can’t give it up. Outright amazing.
Rumor is disney set up Larson by releasing that footage because they knew how bad her film performance was.
Nausi just doesn't understand Star Wars it seems.

Quote: Despite the best efforts of a bad-faith and sexist smear campaign, Captain Marvel — Marvel Studios’ first solo superhero movie about a female superhero — is earning positive critical reviews, and the film is currently projected to make $125 million in its opening weekend. For months, the film has been targeted by trolls. After its first trailer was released in September, some “fans” of the character photoshopped smiles onto star Brie Larson’s promotional photos — essentially the digital version of the “smile more” catcall — because they thought the actress was stiff and wooden in the role. Larson’s physique was called into question, as part of a debate over whether or not she was strong enough to play a hero who will be one of the strongest Avengers. In February, as Captain Marvel’s first pre-release screenings were held for press, the movie became the subject of several negative user reviews posted to the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes by people who hadn’t even seen it, blasting Larson’s performance and trashing the movie itself. Although, to call their assessments “reviews” is generous, as they primarily complained about Larson for being sexist against men, expressing anger that seemed to stem from Larson being vocal about the lack of diversity in Hollywood and among film critics. /quote] Nausi said: » Woo, captain marvel audience teviews are worse than last jedi. Get woke, go broke. The bad audience reviews weren't about it being "woke", just that the casting was bad, the story was bad and the main actress's acting was bad. S. Jackson was good, but hes always been and some of the side characters put in a good showing, but overall the whole movie was "bleh", not even super fireworks to look at. In comparison Gal Gadot did far better in her movie. Even in some of the good reviews, Larson was panned for being a boring lead character. The movie is going to get money, it's a Marvel movie with a big lead-up to the next Avengers.

All the likable Marvel characters have some quirky humorous aspect to them even in the worst of situations. It's what makes "comic book" stories so enjoyable, some ridiculous nonsensical story with character and style that makes us laugh and smile. Look at Ant Man, or Thor Ragnarok, makes zero sense but the whole audience laughed non-stop. Brie was just too serious, someone like Charlize Theron would of done better. Its a phase 1 movie with no prior lead in, the only two characters seen before are Fury and Ronin the Accuser. If its as good as the first Thor, the first Cap, the first Spiderman, it will be fine. Spiderman might be aiming a bit high, but still. Trying to compare it to the universally hated Last Jedi will not work. At all.

This is glossing over the fact that it took 3 Thor stand alone movies and 2 Avengers films to finally make a great Thor movie. As for "wokeness" in media, the free market will fix that for us. It's all fine and dandy for artsy films to have that stuff in it, big budget blockbusters are expected to pull in big profits for those fronting the cash. Captain Marvel cost about 150 million to make and needs to pull in 300 million to even be considered break even. Opening weekend is going to be big because it's a Marvel movie and was hyped non-stop, it's what happens in the two or three weeks after that will determine if its considered a viable success for a second and third part.
There's a reason there was no sequel to the Ghost Busters reboot. Overall experience, just "Meh"

Yeah, but the Thor and Avengers movies had honest reviews that allowed them to course correct. Throw in politics and suddenly both sides are creating intellectually dishonest reviews that either pan or praise the movie based on their own personal moral imperative. If she's really the new face of Marvel due to the old guard being phased out, the franchise needs a much better schtick than, "I'm a woman without a personality, thus making me strong. #GirlzRule!" And when you look at similar things that happened with other recent movies, namely Wonder Woman and Black Panther, there certainly was a little bit of the politic talk going on. Now, while those movies were overrated IMO, they were still pretty solid entries that managed to keep the heavy-handed, in-your-face SJW crap out of the actual movies so that everyone could enjoy them. Apparently Captain Marvel failed to do that.

Thor 1 was great, Thor 2 was weird, Thor 3 was funny as hell. Even in Thor 2 the main character was funny and likable, the fights were spectacular, the plot was weird and nonsensical. It only seems "bad" because of how great some of the other films where. The watcher could at least enjoy the fireworks and just ignore everything else. Captain Marvel didn't even have that going for it. There was some Feminist themes inside Wonder Woman but they kept it out of your face, didn't preach it and weren't shoving it down the viewers throats. Captain Marvel's script plus main actor kinda failed at doing that. |
