totally trashed Luke. Mark Hamill himself expressed his disappointment.

Well, with this example you provide... Luke is speaking in absolutes, which is a no-no for Jedi. Obi-wan would say, only a sith speaks in absolutes.

Frankly speaking, the idea of balance and ending the Jedi and Sith does make sense.

And this is the problem with explaining Eastern Philosophies to Western Idealists, this life is a burden that inhibits your true "self" from peace.

By now all Star Wars fans should, by now, know that Eastern Philosophy inspired Star Wars. It's all about the illusions that your perception casts in your mind shrouding the path to enlightenment.

If Jedi exist then Sith must exist and vice versa.
Ending the Jedi, makes sense.

However, they f'd up Snoke. I wanted a twist there so bad, but nothing. I still wish fans didn't ruin Jar-Jar's plot. Would've fit to perfection and been an amazing reveal at the end. It would've also made me rewatch the entire prequels just to see how Jar Jar exhibited minor subtle Force manipulations, rather than some fans piecing Lucas' vision together.

Not gonna lie. My biggest problem with it was that there was only one good lightsaber fight. It was a pretty good one. But I really need more lightsaber action in a couple years here.

Yeah there were a couple of stick fights too, and contextually they were ok, but those weren't as cool.

It's like my own personal cowbell.

I gotta have more lightsaber.

Well that was the old EU which was declared non-canon with TFA.

I'm skeptical. Who is John Byerly? If even remotely legit, a Google search of John Byerly or that name combined with Star Wars should pull up some hits.
Also, his writing style does not represent well someone that has an inside scoop.

Also, Temiri Blagg, the boy at the end, was the entire reason for the sub-plot to the casino planet. A nobody hero and a future resistance of nobodies clears the slate.

@Volkom, I don't think they would have cut that much out. That's reshoot territory.

Carrie died today last year, film had finished filming, maybe some pickups were still needed, but it was in post production.

This tweet from one of the artists behind the film also indicate the basic story was finished as far back as 2014, before TFA had even finished post production.

I've had enough of this! Forget confidentiality... Here it is!

This new trilogy is designed to combine the Marvel and Star Wars Universes!
Spoiler alert! Ego is Anakin Skywalker's father. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 introduced us to a very loose shooting, immensely powerful entity that liked to create fatherless children and then fly away before having to pay any child support.
Starlord and Skywalker are brothers!

Don't believe it?
Star Wars The Last Jedi was released on December 14th, the day before the anniversary of Walt Disney's death. The original release date was the more intense 15th; only reason they moved it forward a day was out of respect since, although it is a tribute to Walt, it would be bad luck to share that specific date.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was released on April 19th. George Lucas was born on May 14th.
Walt died in 1966. George was born in 1944. 22 years difference. 22 days after April 19th lands us on May 11th. That was the intended release date but those Disney folks in marketing messed it up! Ugh, that Disney!

So, don't worry, even if Luke didn't hook up with anyone before landing on that island, or infuse some Force artifact with his midichlorian-rich Jedi juice, even if Leia didn't stash a secret child (twin or otherwise) somewhere, even if Ben Solo doesn't find a way to bang something other than his or his grandfather's helmets--there is a new hope in future Skywalker(esque) stories! Because Peter Quill has already done well to honor his true family's legacy... Getting it on with more green ladies than even Captain Kirk.

I guess like most 30-somethings out there, I'm just getting old and don't want the Disney iteration of Star Wars to be for my kids, I want it for me dammit! But alas, that's bad marketing. For me it all boiled down to one of Leia's last lines: "we have everything we need for a rebellion right here"(sic) as she looks around the transport. And that's a moment more important due to its absences rather than who's present.

Dunno. It was enjoyable more moments than not, but I feel they bit off too much for one movie. Pretty much every storyline was underdeveloped and I really feel like if they had cut a few side lines out, more could have been done with what was left. I actually enjoyed the casino royale cutaway and wanted that developed more haha.... then again I'm a DelToro junkie.

Oh well. This one just proved to me that some things belong in our childhood, where memories are glossed over in the glow of innocence and wonder. If my kids get that sense from this trilogy, I'll take that small win at the expense of canon and personal preference.

That's one way to look at it, but I think this is inevitable. Too many Star Wars fans watch the movies just for the OT callbacks and the nostalgia.

For the franchise to thrive, and Disney will certainly want to do Episode 10-12 at some point, it can't be tied to the skywalkers forever.

If anything Last Jedi is the most mature film of them all because it is not beholden to your childhoods, it also subverts all the typical plot tropes in a SW film.

I am sure Disney will continue to mine your childhood for nostalgia moments in their anthology movies, but I am just glad they've moved the story forward finally when you consider TFA's biggest critique was it was just a remake of ANH.

I think some fans wanted the Sequel movies to follow the general outline of the Thrawn books. Twin kids by Luke and Leia, one of them turns bad, Luke saves the day, but it's still about Luke, Han and Leia. Not about the kids. These new movies are clearly about the kids.

That alternative trilogy could have worked 10-15 years ago when the actors were younger. They're just too old now and many of the Star Wars OT casts are dying off slowly, and that's because Lucas chose to do the prequels instead of the sequel trilogy. Can't blame Disney for that. I'd actually much rather competent hands like Disney handle the prequels instead.
