Final Fantasy Explorers - Megathread
Anyone who did the download route happen to remember how many blocks it was? I am thinking it might be time to upgrade my memory card.
I think it might have been around 5000? I can't remember exactly

Movement speed from what I can tell, the Haste spell in this game seems to make you move faster (though I could be imagining things), but slow definitely makes things move slower. You win, Ack. I started this adventure mainly to taunt you. :) Took me a few calls, then first store I went to Best Buy couldn't find the two copies their computer said they had. Second store game stop had one copy left. The store clerk was a royal *** the whole time about pre ordering from them instead of amazon. I possibly would have in the future if it was not for this guys cunty attitude. After checking 9 different stores I finally one one store that had three copies left and managed to race across the city to get one. I was super excited.
Fast forward to 24 hour later after a few hours of play time... Hmm. I've never played PSO or Monster Hunter, but overall I am fairly disapointed so far. Admittedly I'm only up to two stars so I hope it ramps up. So far it is repetitive, incredibly grindy and ridiculously easy. So easy I am just soloing on WHM and everything is one shotted instantly using any skill, even with just a dinky rod and starting armor. Killed the red dragon and adamantoise in about 15 seconds casting water 3-4 times. Mobs don't seem aggressive or dangerous at all. No reason to be a WHM when nothing deals more than 20-30 damage and you start with 4000 hp. Mobs just watch me wander by without reacting. I can't even imagine what a joke the game must be with a DD or tank job when everything is so easy with WHM, and every class can use any spell. I've heard that the mobs don't scale up based on the number of players in the game either. The walking speed is slow and having to re-walk the starting zones over and over is annoying. Having to stop fighting and take a moment to go press A to pick up loot from every single monster is a pain. Why can't I just pick up loot by walking through it? Why stop, require a button press and a short animation and a text box every time? I see the game had a lot of potential. The engine is decent, the graphics are OK but not stellar. Being able to co op with 21 different jobs is brilliant... But there is no epic story, doesn't feel final fantasyish without it. There's just no challenge or anything to hold my interest. I'll give it a few more days and see but otherwise I'll consider selling it online and getting something else. when you get to the summons those are a bit harder. i think they just ease you into it until you get good skills/armor.
Playing online makes this game a lot more fun... when I can get a damn group. Grouping system is kinda derp. Can't see what quest people have selected before joining a room or even if they have already left or not. Spent an hour joining rooms with people either already gone or just standing around doing nothing.
Also omg the lag on my older 3ds when online... solid 5 fps at some points x_x. Ordered my copy earlier.
Are monsters way overpowered?
I have a level 30 Mandragora that annihilated Alexander and all I did was Haste, Regen, and Cure on Time Mage. Seems like me on support did more damage than me on a damage dealer because I spend almost 0 time running away from deadly attacks and can just heal up the monsters tanking it. That being said, everything is waaaaay easier than I expected. I'm at 4 stars now and it's about 10% the difficulty of any MH game I've played. Just over 5,000 blocks.
Shoot I think I will still upgrade my mem card and just buy games like this from now on. Pretty ridiculously easy. The class system is enormously disappointing too... there's 0 reason to play most of the jobs since almost every learnable ability is cross-class and there's no job levels.
Yeah I'm not too excited anymore :/ it is fun but after a while you see the flaws.
I do have to admit this feels like a very... cheap copy attempt at MH. Controls are a bit frustrating at times... super lagging for things that probably shouldn't be. Severe lack of depth compared to MH considering it is a very obvious "clone."
But the FF elements make me not regret getting this. Still fun, just not amazing. Hell of a lot better than SEs last MH clone though (Lord of Arcana... ugh). I don't have too much gaming time nowadays, easy is fine by me.
Short easy fun missions. Perfect game for poop breaks!
It's really not Monster Hunter guys, I wish people would stop comparing MH and this. Not saying it's perfect, but, it's basically FF-Type 0 Lite to me and it's fun to play. Not many complaints there. Would it have been awesome if it was closer to MH? Probably!
tl;dr Not disagreeing that it could be better, but majorly disagreeing on calling it an MH clone. Q!
Is it possible to do the tutorials multiplayer, or do you have to go through those solo before you "unlock" multiplayer? I unlocked the airship which helps with travel times.
Also had a chance to do several avatar battles now. Still soloing on WHM. They are definitely more challenging and fun. After doing the avatars a few times I can't imagine them being easy to solo on a DD job without a WHM. I remember starting to panic a bit when I had only a couple hundred AP left (out of 2000 AP) because I was spamming cure and water and slowly whittling it down. I was like oh snap, I need to retreat and slow down my pace, dodge more, etc... But then the games stupid easy mode thing kicked in again. You get AP back just by swinging your weapon. Like hundreds of AP per swing. So if you're a mage out of AP (which is used as MP in this game) if you swing your stick for about 4 seconds you'll have full AP again. So much for even the avatars requiring any resource management... For those complaining that it's easy start putting 4 restrictions on missions and you will be nearly getting one shotted. That's where the difficulty comes in you can set it so you have 1 life only so when you die that's it you have to restart from town, monster damage+200%, there's a monster damage taken down and a monster hp up one. The game is as easy or as has hard as you want to make it.
Guess my opinion will be unpopular but I'm perfectly fine with an easy game.

Anyone know where there are more chocobos? I know they randomly appear in certain areas(seems like it anyways) I want a chocobo partner!
Only place I've seen em is in a cave, think otw to ifrit maybe?

The game is as easy or as has hard as you want to make it. True. Admittedly it's grindy enough soloing on WHM already. Making everything take 4x longer to kill when you have limited offensive abilities may or may not make it more difficult, but it will definitely make it harder for me to keep playing the game with any kind of enjoyment. Edit: My original build was white magic and club skills only. Since I decided to spread into a few other black magic spells it's a lot faster. 350/500 kills for Drk... Soon. Also took me a bit to learn that even after i augmented my abilities.. you have to equip them to get the benefits xD
Anyone on 7*? D:
I took a small vacation the past 2 days for my mothers birthday and went out of state. Just got back.
I just got up to 5* quests unlocked. I had a feeling it was going to get more difficult. I was killing everything super easy on Knight by just deflecting everything. My friends seem to be struggling without me tanking. I have to catch them up tonight since I've been away. Something I'm noticing is usually 5 minute penalty for death. Which isn't even much of anything even in a party. But today I went to solo Ifrit on my Knight Mastery 5* and realized it is now 15 minutes per death on penalty and you only get 30 minutes. So you only get 1 death before you are done now (unless phoenix down but they are a little expensive). My friends are stuck at beginning 4* on diabolos/fenrir. Without deflecting or a way to block/guard/counter, I'd imagine that being a pretty bad time. I'm pretty much set on Knight at the moment and will transition into Paladin once I unlock it. I don't understand why everybody seems to say this game is too easy, if you crank up the difficulty on stuff everything is a pretty good challenge!
Just unlocked Beastmaster :D
Just so people know, since gil cost is a big part of getting 20 different monsters summoned, you don't have to have all 20 at once. You can level them up while you gather other ones and sell them once they are worth a bit (seems like level 7 or so). I had 13 monsters in my roster when it triggered as I had sold quite a few. |
