everyone makes it sound like they're shutting down the game
Well, the end is foreseeable now, three small add ons, then you're done. No more content. No more reason to even do content.
In terms of story & content sure. It sounds like they won't be adding more after this. However the game is still going to continue. Also, since the game is only going to be supported on windows there may be newer and better things in the future.
As for the mobile app thing, it sounds interesting to me and I think it has huge potential.
It basically feels like they're shutting down the game if they're truly just going to stop releasing content after November. It has to feel like it's going somewhere.
I can't imagine many people sticking around either.
I really don't know how much more clearly they needed to spell it out, no new content after November and yet we still have people assuming and thinking windows only content.
Jesus christ they said no more content for a reason.
Apart from minor bug fixes, balance etc.
How many people will keep playing with no new content, face it, it's done in the very near future.
My bad, i didn't realize my server was the only one that still does salvage despite it being old content.
Now you really are acting dense pal, they do salvage for mythics you know to show off and do "new content" with and there will be no new conent soon enough.
Well, I'm glad the game lasted for 13 long years. I was trying to decide what to post here for humor... between answers from 14, or the moon from Majora's Mask. lol

This, who would stick around on a stagnant game? Where the only patches were "balance" related.
Maybe if it was f2p but who would pay for that.
It's absolutely delicious to see this post come from you.

Yeah you keep spamming salvage like a champ.
Your missing the point, you can clear content the first day, you keep doing old content grind months and years after to get the things you want. How many of your capes are perfectly augmented from incursion? Your done with all Unity drops already? Even when you have everything you want, you keep doing it until you run out of people to buy it from you then.

I think a lot of the people that migrate to XIV will not last. the only challenging aspects of XIV are currently the newest incarnations of Coil and when they add a new Extreme primal. new dungeons are cleared on day one, and the remainder of the content added is solo story content for the most part. the Party Finder community is fairly toxic in that the attitude of "REM onry" is replaced with that of "must have studied youtube video of win in depth, and if you get lag spiked, well, *** you we're kicking you, you dead weight POS" you don't really chat with anyone while you play because you are too busy mashing your rotation to optimize your DPS. Tuesdays are a flurry of activity as the loot lockout on the current version of Crystal Tower is released as well as people rushing to cap their Tomestones for the week. most of this is done using the Duty Finder that matches you to people pulled from a variety of servers and no guarantee you'll ever see them again. it's not to say that XIV is not fun, but it is a very different beast from FFXI,
Well i'll stick around and finish my terpaderp afterglow.
Still havent played jobs like bst, pup, pld etc and havent soloed everything in the game, still plenty to do.
Most days i'm rather content casually playing soloing and just chatting with a couple people in game.
I've continued to play this game because I enjoy pursuing my own goals regardless of their 'value' in the eyes of other people (making a 119 armageddon, lolmurgleis etc).
XIV sucks, been there done that. I'd rather just play XI or quit mmo until another sandboxy type mmo comes out.
This news has to be disheartening to anyone going hard in the grind at making a mythic weapon. If it were me I'd throw in the towl, and the game while I'm at it.
I'm nearing completion of my first mythic for my long-time favorite job (will be finished in April), and it's not particularly disheartening to me. If anything, finishing a mythic will be the crowning accomplishment to be able to say I "did it all" in the game. I'm sure I'll enjoy playing through the last of the major content updates while sporting the ultimate weapon that I always dreamed of, and will actually be able to accomplish.
Past that, I'm sure I'll be tooling around Vana'diel well into 2016 or beyond.

There's plenty of content and stories to follow currently in the game. What's relevant in terms of gear progression is another story. Who knows, since the game is going to windows only platform post 2016 then it may be easier for them to push out updated content at a later date.
Everyone sounds so god damn pessimistic. Come'on lets keep a little optimism here
Looking forward to Square announcing the November 2015 Login Campaign prizes:
1000 points: Ridill
2000 points: Defending Ring
4000 points: Mythic 119 of your choice.
Mog Bonanza 2016 winning number: 00001. Yes, it will be that easy.
Probably find some clever way to get people to log in and keep playing. I can see 24/7 campaigns for EXP/CP/Bayld returns/WKR/NNI/WOE being the norm some time after content halt begins.

You guys all know coming.
I would so go for that. Than I could deactivate peacefully.
I wonder if SE is going to lower R/M/E requirements as time winds down. If they're not releasing any new content after November, it makes sense that they might make such toys more attainable to entice people to stick around longer. You know, letting them play with all the things that they could never get before but now have easier access to. It might also help people feel more "complete" when the end comes.
Because it will no doubt be buried in the big discussion post, I am putting the link to the official translated summary here for quicker and easier access.
