Valefor.Sapphire said: » Nexon is just doing the mobile client that will talk to the XI servers and be a way to remotely play the game, people need to calm down. Nexon is not touching the game design/balanace. "Going forward, FINAL FANTASY XI will aim to transform into a completely new format on the mobile environment so that players can easily experience Vana'diel whenever and wherever they want." I dunno, sounds like to me its more then just a client. Guess we wont know for sure till we get to 2016 Valefor.Sapphire

this begs the question of whether or not they are bumping up ilevel never, once, or with each mini expansion like abyssea since that has some far reaching effects on existing content being viable/worthwhile to do.
I don't think they really need to bump up anything one more time except maybe RMEs and they might as well say f it and make an ergon weapon for the other 20jobs. Or better yet add another sidegrade RME type ultimate weapon in the last mini expansion. They don't need to bump ilvl if they put interesting abilities/stats on the gear.
So everyone has wanted them to drop PS2 and X-Box 360 with good reason. They wanted FFXI to grown and expand to be a better game. I really hope people realize that they got NONE of that with them dropping the two systems. They just want 2 less things to worry about while they allow people to play a watered down version on your phone from everything we are gathering. So really in the end no one wins with this. People will quit because they don't want to switch to computer and then the computer players are not getting anything enhanced for them. The computer players will struggle even more to find members(more people play on PS2 & X Box than you would think) to do the same content that has nothing new to offer if the updates are just balancing.
I have been playing the game since 2004 and really uncertain of my future on the game from this announcement. I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling this way. The mini-expansions sound like they could be a nice finale they are banking on people's nostalgia to keep them on. I really see this as being the final year for many of us and then some of us will just stop today or very soon. I am the last to be a doomsday poster about FFXI because I hate those posts. I'm also not saying this is the end of FFXI because there will be people that will stay on just like they have with other MMOs. I just think they really went the wrong way here for most of their market. So we might have a little over a year left, guess all good things have to end...

The one major criticism I'd levy against that phase of the game (and I don't mean to understate this) is dual-natured, namely the interactions between alliance content (and some party content) design and PD/Embrava. Everything was mob AoEs, zerging, etc. From where I stand, the post-Adoulin era is where they really jumped the shark. They had an opportunity to create slow, healthy progression similar to (perhaps slightly more vertical than) 75 cap's early years (pre-WotG). Instead we got ilevels, stat vomit, and insane power creep in balancing. Good design principles were basically abandoned - as cool as I think it is that BLU is a top DD now, from what I can tell it's a top DD largely for the wrong reasons. Maybe some of the side content is good, I haven't looked hard enough to get any real idea there, but the core of the game has gone in a very unappealing direction. The results speak for themselves. I might return briefly for the last hurrah and put a bow on my retail XI experience, but only for the sake of capping things off and seeing what's effectively the end of XI's story. And playing with BLU's new toys for a while just because, I guess. Even then I'm far from sold on the idea. This is effectively the end of XI in a very real way and it's going to have immediate negative repercussions. If you aren't happy about the announcement, why not arrange a boycott?

And a PC from 15 years ago could run this game so... if they actually care about their account they will make the switch. I'm 50/50 on deactivating tomorrow and returning in November to finish everything off.
This press conference was the final attempt for them to sway me back into the game.
I think not. It's not worth it. The game will be completely dead in 2 years. Nexon is a publisher of (and operates servers for) online games on PC and mobile, not a developer.
Saying they have a bad rep is going a little too far. they have some decent games under their umbrella, the only thing really bad about nexon is pretty much all their games are heavily pay-to-win. Of course, we know that's not really likely a possibility for FFXI, but how that's going to work is anybody's guess. Cerberus.Demonsgate

I was very close to coming back still might come back to make sure I can keep in touch with some old friends best thing that came out of the game for me was online friends
2010: FFXI is dying soon.
2011: FFXI is dying soon. 2012: FFXI is dying soon. 2013: FFXI is dying soon. 2014: FFXI is dying soon. 2015: FFXI is dying soon. The struggle goes on! Also have to say I'm really not sold on the idea of future content potentially being built around the demands of a mobile platform. Either it waters down core content and/or it somehow features platform-exclusive content. I'd be surprised if they managed to avoid both of those potential pitfalls.

As much as I hate to admit it...
Quote: We plan for this to be a grand conclusion to the FINAL FANTASY series' first MMORPG--and indeed, the first console MMORPG--in a way that will be recorded in the annals of the genre's history. Yes... this means its pretty much the last strain of the game... The only ray of hope I may have is that if mobile client takes back enough ppl they might make another expansion, but is pretty doubtful... So ffxi lifespan has been set to 2-3 more years. The transcript they released it says after the 3 updates they will only be doing bug and balance fixes as they come along. The scenario will consist of three separate chapters, debuting in the May, August, and November version updates, respectively. Coming along with the scenario are exciting new battle content, never-before-seen rewards, and a variety of other additions to engage players of all different stripes. We plan for this to be a grand conclusion to the FINAL FANTASY series' first MMORPG--and indeed, the first console MMORPG--in a way that will be recorded in the annals of the genre's history. FINAL FANTASY XI's major version updates will conclude with the implementation of the final chapter of Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, but there will continue to be minor version updates that address bugs and contain various balance adjustments. |
