FFXIV debuts... it's the end of FFXI!
Mobile ***debuts... it's the end of FFXI! Prediction: die-hard PC players will still be paying SE's bills as the mobile ***flops hard. Asura.Roczilla said: » With rocket boots. Straight to space. The high heeled ones from Smash? Valefor.Prothescar said: » Full Summary New Add-On Scenarios and Major Updates In May, August, and November there will be 3 major updates entitled "Vanadiel's Song of the Stars". These will be grand, major updates including new areas, battle content, and battle systems including dynamic events (think RIFTs, FATEs). Following these updates, there will be no more major content updates for FFXI, but the game will continue to be supported with minor patches and the servers will not be closing down. Console Support Playstation 2 and Xbox 360 support will be dropped in March 2016. MMMRPG Massively Multiplayer Mobile Role Playing Game. It will include a sort of version of FFXI that will allow you to do some things directly to your FFXI character while incorporating new features not available on the PC. They're looking for ways to "make people want to log in every day". Best summary. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/46414-Conference-Digest Full English Version
Hopefully the new addons will be as much better than the last three as Abyssea was of the first three... at least.
I'm really a bit heartbroken that there won't be at least one more real expansion. There is so much more to the world of Vana'diel that we haven't seen, namely the homeland of Tenzen and Gessho, the "Far East" and the homeland of the orcs/gigas and the far southern lands. Nevermind, it's already up:

It's really over Now that everyone know this, is there any reason to keep playing? please remember, this is a Japanese game for Japanese players in Japan, all the rest of us are (not really wanted) guests.

They won't change their sub policy until maybe at least 1yr from now since we are getting mini expansions and the usual type updates till november.
I think they also didnt server merge because they could see a bump in (re)subs for the 3 mini expansions and possible +subs from the mobile client and grandmasters. It would have been bad to merge and have more people come back to XI and then not have the infrastructure room to accomodate. Trusts are going to get buffed up again and the trend is to pretty much allow them everywhere in all battle content. This mitigates server/timezone low population problem and also allows people that want to solo everything. Offline

Quote: We are pleased to welcome as our partner NEXON, Co., Ltd., a company that boasts a variety of experiences and a world class track record in both developing and operating MMORPGs on mobile platforms. Also this Quote: We plan to extend service to Japan, Korea, and North America, as well as Europe and the rest of Asia, with an eye toward release in 2016. Sure, I'll play XI on a mobile devise. Why not? As long as it actually runs well. But I guess this means we are going from PS2 limitations, to mobile limitations.
I'm still baffled lol...
OVER/UNDER What happens first? PS2/360 lose support in MAR 2016 or Servers shutdown in NOV/DEC 2015 cuz the story is finished and everyone cancels? Carbuncle.Kurosawa said: » Fenrir.Schutz said: » It's because they host some really nasty F2P cash-transaction games like Maple Story and Mabinogi, both of which have bad reputations for gouging players with cash-transactions and cash-sink style game features. I did wonder if that would have been a lead-in introduction into an FFXI F2P business model, but it wasn't brought up. So are the games themselves bad? Do they run badly? I'm just curious if they were doing just a mobile port of XI, then the gouging they do in their own games wouldn't apply. Yes, honestly unless they actually hand over things from SE to Nexon, I wouldn't think much of it (at this point.) However, if the "future" of FFXI is both a MMMRPG version of FFXI along with Grandmasters mobile app, then a cash-shop F2P system will likely be the implemented model to facilitate them, just as a guess. But yes, certain devs (like Codemasters in the UK or Turbine or Level Up Games in the PI) license out from original developers to host certain localised versions of IP's (that's why they showed the various 'locations' for Nexon, I would think, to show which regions it currently hosts) so I get the impression that is the direction the mobile SE properties will go (with Nexon hosting those servers and running those localised versions of whatever apps.) Well, I'll keep playing through the add-ons at least. I play on a 360 because I'd rather use my laptop to play music and it's kind of a piece of crap. So I'll stick around until next March, then I'll decide.
I really don't know what to think of all this.
FFXI on mobile? Nexon? I literally went from optimism to BLEGH as soon as I saw Nexon. Ok so I am seeing on http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/46414-Conference-Digest that * At present, the game is scheduled for release in Japan only. If i go to Japan can I download the game? Or how does it all work?

Thing is people don't realize how much 14 did put 11 at risk. Not because being a new game but because the company took such a blow financially from it. It essentially knocked it from being basically a billion dollar company to being not much farther than some smaller/indie developers for a while. They just can't seem get their heads right on how to run the company. Some say it has been that way since square and enix merged because square took a really bad deal for it giving up almost all say. I had hoped to find something in that announcement that would get me excited to play more than just a few hours a week... Instead it kinda talked me into just quitting

Nexon is just doing the mobile client that will talk to the XI servers and be a way to remotely play the game, people need to calm down. Nexon is not touching the game design/balanace.

I feel like botting/duping/w/e will become more widespread and fewer if any bans after the 'main updates' stop in 2016.
will cheats work on mobile devices? woops there goes the NA player base.

I hope the last 3 battle addons have abyssea level content otherwise it's going to be a lackluster ending to a great game.
