Rolling stone WAS bringing you the facts, just the ones they wanted you to hear.

I would be concerned if they told you that Nickelback was awesome and their latest album was a "scorching epochal hit" and you ran out and bought it....

Until they wield that kind of power I think we will all be ok.

I had a Rolling Stone subscription forced upon me for the past few years because it was free and I forgot to uncheck the box when ordering concert tickets a while back, so I did what anyone in that situation does: I threw them in the John and read them while I was doing my business.

I have no idea what their mission statement is these days, but one thing of which I'm dreadfully certain is this: They have a super-liberal social mindset like you would expect...EXCEPT when it comes to music, where they just -- in fact -- push whatever the big-money recording companies tell them to as well as rereleases and new projects of arists that originally were recording when Rolling Stone was still relevant as pertains to music.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that they're more or less written MTV. They've entirely lost their way in this day and age and now they just publish what will get them advertising dollars with their target audience.

not even.

mtvs 16 and pregnant credited for decline in teen pregnancy rates

and it could be argued that any impact mtv had wasn't at all what they had hoped or planned for but that is beside the point.

rolling stone magazine is irrelevant and it has been for a long time just ask john kerry

Let's not get too nice to MTV here.

That still means people are watching garbage television.

they can all drink drano for all I care...

it will help lessen the effects of man made global climate change
Nikolce's diabolically evil master plan for global meltdown and the destruction of the human race.

see? it's all in the marketing. everyone can get behind stopping an hideously evil plot to destroy mankind....

"global whatever" doesn't sound anywhere near urgent enough. "kills polar bears?" nobody cares... "end of the human race", now you have a case!

Not presently. I live in a townhouse pending a move with my wife's job relocation in a couple years. When we buy a place I'll definitely have one.

Pity, that's a shame. I found a great kegerator on CL that I'm in the process of expanding from 3 to 7 taps. Mega mega cool stuff!

So back on topic. Why do people believe the nonsense involved in line after line being fed to them about "rape culture" and sexism? It's all demonstrably false! Yet another politically motivated scam of generating outrage over false tragedies. Akin to Lena Dunham's "I was raped by Barry the conservative", akin to "hands up don't shoot / black lives matter", and akin to "Eric Garner was killed with a choke hold".

All lies peddled by left wing radicals to further their political agenda. The truth doesn't matter, They're banking on people simply not knowing how to use their brain anymore. Banking that they've have been taught to not think for themselves, and their education was successful.

'til you watch any news segment about a chick getting raped and someone in their infinite wisdom tries to find -any- reason to victim blame, rather than put the blame exactly where it belongs: On the *** rapist.

Denying we live in a "rape-culture" isn't akin to blaming the victim.

Keep on drinking that kool-aid.

Despite you fingers-in-ears approach to social injustice, on-campus rape, sexism, and racism are still burning issues. A shitty journalist, attention-seeking actors, and opportunistic rioters don't change that no matter how much you'd rather focus on them.

Yes, well, obviously. I think all rapists out there need a can of Drano Crystals poured down their pants.

But that aside, I can't stand the "culture" connotation. It makes it sound like it's a way of life, like surfing culture or something. Like there's some club for rapists where they all hang out together, with their own little secret rapist handshake etc.

Said by the valedictorian of the college of victim hood himself.

I understand the buy-in to the "valor" associated with being a victim (there is no valor in being a victim btw), but when radicals have to resort to blatantly fabricating outrages to get people's attention, and people buy into them, we are in a far more trouble. But hey, I guess anything goes when in pursuit of the "greater good" right?

You're the one with fingers in your ears bud.

This is where I keep falling short.

I'm completely and utterly bushed just from working and doing the things I have to do every day. I can't effect changing a few loads on laundry on a nightly basis without psyching myself up for it. How the hell am I supposed to stop crime without going dirty ol' Uncle Bronson on them?
