White Gays Politically Incorrect
Being 'white' has nothing to do with skin color and being 'gay' has nothing to do with sexual preference / orientation.

Time to bust out some 50 cent and 20 inch rims ! Or you are saying that culture/environment defines more of how we act than the color of our skin. I always thought being white means I'll never dance in public. fonewear said: » Leviathan.Chaosx said: » Being 'white' has nothing to do with skin color and being 'gay' has nothing to do with sexual preference / orientation. And yes it's more cultural / environmental / social thing than anything. fonewear said: » Or you are saying that culture/environment defines more of how we act than the color of our skin. There is a hierarchy of minority privilege and the way it is maintained is via political correctness. Ghetto booty is contagious if you contract it bite your lower lip and smile.

Bahamut.Baconwrap said: » I love this article for a number of reasons. One it is the PC police hitting the LGBT community back, which it fully deserves. Two it's fairly accurate. Bahamut.Baconwrap said: » Political correctness out of control. Usually it takes a few pages before you can't keep your points straight. Do you agree with the original argument or not? If you do, why is this example of "political correctness" valid while certain others are not? This thread so far makes no sense. /equip head "Surprise Face" Cerberus.Pleebo said: » Two it's fairly accurate. ![]() I think it's pretty clear my views on PC policing! ![]() Hmm, nevermind. Carry on. fonewear said: » YouTube Video Placeholder White people can't dance, they have a full body sporadic aneurism coupled with uncontrollable and un-coordinated body movements due to what looks like a waking seizure.
Notice that white folk barely move in dance videos. Mostly shrug their shoulders and lots of hand movement. Cerberus.Pleebo said: » If you do, why is this example of "political correctness" valid while certain others are not? Well according to your logic the African-American woman writing this article has every single Quote: "I don't find this offensive therefore no one else should." Good for you. You don't have to deal with similar situations. Have some cake to go with your privilege. Her message to gay white men is pretty clear: Quote: Check your privilege. Just because gay white men don't find it offensive doesn't mean an African American woman doesn't find it offensive. Seems to me minority privilege is the key term of this discussion. Black people do start a lot of things that are whitewashed by mainstream American... but that's true of the gay community as well, so I feel this article is a little off-base with that point.
Addressing her argument about how being a gay white male gives you more privilege than being a straight black woman, I'm not so sure. I agree that sexuality isn't self-evident in the same sense as race, but there are states in this country where employment discrimination against homosexuals is still legal... and countries where being gay is a capital crime. The whole article seems catty and petty. No good can come from this topic. These conversations always degenerate into who suffers/suffered more aka victim-hood contest, or what we're seeing so far in the thread, "OMG PC is the worst, hurr durr I'm a straight WASP Republican and I'm the real victim in today's society!". Republiderps, hurr hurr!
Oh crap, Bloodrose just had a stroke.

There's nothing wrong with treating others with consideration. True, but you completely missed the point. Bahamut.Baconwrap said: » You can call it privilege all you like but it's basically just treating others with the same modicum of respect you'd extend to any stranger you're not well acquainted with. Political correctness has gone above and beyond just attempting to create an atmosphere of mutual respect. It's now just an excuse to severely punish people who ever say anything that could be interpreted as a slight against a minority group.
As a Canadian, I'm not personally offended by this, but will refuse to laugh because someone might be offended by this.
Cerberus.Pleebo said: » It's apparent that many people won't take offense to gay guys acting black. Apparent to who? You? Who are those many people? WeHo? Quote: So once again we're at the point where you argue that since it doesn't offend WeHo it doesn't offend anybody. Are you acknowledging that a fringe opinion exists? Cerberus.Pleebo said: » Doesn't mean she doesn't have a valid point in there somewhere. Quote: "I don't find this offensive therefore no one else should." Good for you. You don't have to deal with similar situations. Have some cake to go with your privilege. Cerberus.Pleebo said: » You can call it privilege Quote: It's apparent that many people won't take offense to gay guys acting black. That sounds like privilege to me. EDIT: The point is it's one thing to mutually respect one another. Respect doesn't encompass walking on egg-shells. There comes a point where PC policing can be used as a method of oppression and is outright ridiculous. Fringe minority opinions are dangerous e.g. MEChA. There's nothing wrong with treating others with consideration. True, but you completely missed the point. I didn't miss your point, I don't agree with its sentiment. All "political correctness" really means is "show me respect and consideration, regardless of my race/sex/orientation/etc." It's about being polite and decent to others, not about special privileges but basic respect. I sometimes say things that might offend another person. When they come to me and say "hey, that genuinely makes me uncomfortable because (whatever)", I don't have a problem apologizing and not repeating the offense. Why is this so difficult? |
