I know of lots of great taco places locally owned...actually, all of the great taco places are locally owned and not nationally distributed. Which is a big problem because most people haven't tasted heaven on earth.

But seriously, if you ever want a good taco joint, ask a local. I know several in SA, but there is only 1 that is the best in the state in my eyes and that's out in the middle of nowhere. This, page 1.

Taco Casa isn't bad if I want a step up from Taco Bell and I'm feeling cheap.
Taco Mayo (when you go inside, not drive thru) is pretty good as well, but a bit more expensive.

Now, in SA, I would have to say that for out-of-state people, Las Palapas is probably the best in the "mild" category.
I can't spell the one in the "homestyle" category, but it's in Seguin.

The only thing at McDonalds I like is the sausage biscuit w/ a hashbrown in it (both welldone).
I say serve these all day, but the problem with that is the calibration for the clamshell grills is different for the breakfast sausage and the 10:1 and 4:1 meat patties. Most stores only have 2 clamshell grills and would require a 3rd grill for all day breakfast.

The one I worked for in college had 3 clamshell grills and one that's for grilled chicken only (had it's own separate "grill tool" or whatever it's called.
The 3rd one was usually for 4:1 or 3:1 (Angus burgers). If I had to use it for the 10:1, that usually meant a bus came by.

I have worked at 6 different McDonalds and only one of them had 3 clamshells, it was a corporate store that does part of the main testing for new products and is also the meeting place for the big McBosses. If yours was near a college then I can see why it had so many grills to feed the high (lol high) customer traffic.

The owner only owned 2 of the stores, both of which where in my town.
The bigger one that I worked at was the main one, the smaller one was on IH10. But everyone local went to the bigger one.
Wasn't a college town or near a college either. It was just the only 2 McDonalds within 30 or so miles away.

Okay, so "turning over a new leaf" with some people...
Go to Waco next time, that's a quick drive (for us locals, a quick drive = less than an hour away).
And damn it, now I'm in the mood for Mexican!
That one word put me in the mood for Czech Stop in West!
EDIT: Ummm...So, you don't live in SA? It isn't less than an hour between SA and Waco. It takes me an hour-and-a-half going 75, and that's a straight shot on 35.
If he's actually in SA, he's an hour south of me.
I need to get some soft tacos now. Only if you are in Austin. If you are north of Austin, it will take you an hour just to get through it!

To give an insight as to why this probably won't work:
When I worked at McDonald's, there were 2 grills, and 4 fryer vats at our station. The grills had 5 liftable 'clams' (2 on 1, 3 on the other 1) and they'd use those for making the meats like for your quarter pounders, hamburgers, angus, bacon, chicken. Now figure in another part, where you got Breakfast cooked at all times. That's going to be pure hell for the employees, because they have to dedicate at -least- 3 grills for breakfast, for poultry, pork, and beef to avoid cross contamination. that leaves only 2 grills for regular beef products, which during lunch rushes are the hottest items. That's going to slow down the lines and make their customer satisfaction drop severely, as they can't cut corners and try to cook the food faster on a much higher temperature. It just won't work that way.
I'm for McDonalds keeping full Breakfast until 11:30 PM, but I do not think they should blend lunch/breakfast together. It'd be too much on the employees.

But at least a later breakfast on weekends would be beneficial. Most of ours here stop at 10:30 but give like extra 15 minute of grace time.

Around here some 24-hour stores serve both breakfast and lunch items early in the morning, so they have the capability to do that.
Smaller stores won't be able to, only for the fact of food safety and two clamshell grills.
If stores wanted to install a third grill, good for them, but that would be a lot of money for an investment that might not pay off.

Quote: McDonald's is in the early stages of looking at whether it can make breakfast available later in the day.
Fans of the Egg McMuffin and Sausage Biscuit have long wanted the option to get breakfast at McDonald's after 10:30 a.m. But offering both the breakfast and lunch menu was considered logistically impossible, given the tight kitchen spaces of the restaurants.
Still, it's an option the chain is eyeing more seriously at a time when people's eating habits are changing — particularly those coveted customers in their 20s and 30s known as Millennials.
"We know, as an example, that breakfast on the weekend cut off at 10:30 doesn't go very well," Jeff Stratton, head of McDonald's USA, said in an interview.
Stratton declined to provide any details on how McDonald's would adjust kitchen operations to make breakfast later in the day.
"Well, we're just beginning. ... We're just taking a look at it," he said.
Taco Bell Breaks Out of Shell With New Morning Menu
A representative for McDonald's, Lisa McComb, said after the interview that there are no tests currently in place for the extended breakfast hours.
McDonald's has long entertained the idea of serving breakfast throughout the day. But the chain has been inching closer to making the idea a reality as it faces heightened competition and slumping sales. Last year, for example, the company began offering an "After Midnight" menu at select locations. The menu, available from midnight to 4 a.m., consisted of a limited mix of breakfast and lunch items so kitchen operations wouldn't be overwhelmed.
The push to make breakfast outside normal hours also reflects how McDonald's is working to keep pace with shifting habits. In particular, executives have noted that customers increasingly want foods personalized to their tastes and schedules.
To cater to evolving tastes, the chain is also offering newer items such as chicken McWraps and the option to substitute egg whites in any breakfast sandwich.
As for extending its breakfast hours, McDonald's is known for treading extremely carefully when discussing any tests or potential changes. Such matters are considered sensitive in large part because they would require the support of the company's network of franchisees.
In the U.S., about 90 percent of the company's more than 14,000 U.S. restaurants are run by franchisees, who bear the responsibility of training employees and buying new equipment to accommodate any changes.
Hoping that they do extend hours, tired of sleeping in (totally my fault) and rushing to McDonalds before 10:30 on weekends. >_>
Anyone else happy or hoping that they do?
