Sorry not an ffiv player atm, I do plan on hoping on when RR launches in august.

Is there a difference in races aside from esthetics ? I know I chose tarutaru in FFXI because I prefer spellcasting classes, so their MP pool made it obvious.

yes, there is differences between each race and there are sub groups withing each race (clans) which basically align your race to either a more offensive or magical player.

EX. for any race there are 2 different clans, one will give you more base magic stats by like 1 -3 points, the other will have higher physical stats by 1-3 points. 1-3 isnt exact its an example tho.

Races are slightly different from 11 tho.

The equivalent of hume and mithra from 11 from what i can tell is basically the same stats wise as in 14, mithra have more dex obv tho. BUT the one hume clan does have higher str.

Elvaan in 14 are more magical based than they were in 11, more like classic elves in other games / lore.

As far as I know galkan and taru races are the same as in 11.

Sorry i dont remember the real race names in 14 lol.

The one thing i wasnt able to find or figure out while playing is the spread of hp / mp differences between races. from teaming up with ppl in game mithra and humes seem to have the same hp / mp stat growth. I didnt team up with other races during my play so I do not know how mp pools / hp pools will play out at higher levle.s

Next beta phase I'll go to character creation and get the stats of each race for ya. There are 5 races and 2 difference "species" of each race, I guess you would call it that...? Anyway each one has different stats.

EDIT: I decided to google search it rq and found an interesting video.

Basically, without counting gear and attribute+ points you're rewarded every two levels (I believe that's correct), you're always just going to have that base difference between races. Taking the example from the video, we're comparing sun Seekers Miqo'te to Dunesfolk Lalafell.

------------------------------------STR DEX VIT INT MND PIE
Dunesfolk Lalafell MNKlv50: 231 212 199 102 183 134
Sun Seeker Miqo'te MNKLv50: 235 214 202 099 108 131
Dunesfolk Lalafell MNKlv01: 017 020 017 021 022 023
Sun Seeker Miqo'te MNKLv01: 021 022 020 018 019 020

So the difference between these two, assuming same job and no attribute+ points have be spent (and both naked or you subtract total stat bonuses from gear...) is always 4/2/3/3/3/3

Honestly, just play what race you want.

race has only slight difference most u will see is 1-2 points diff, not as bad ffxi race differences, also if u didnt know each class/job also gain points per so many lvls which u can put to yer stats, sofar as it goes mp isnt an issue unless maybe cnj/whm idk havent tried them but thm/blm really has no worries for mp come this FFXIV:ARR due to its mp regain effect from its skills

I hope you understand that being a Race over the other does not hurt you as much as it did in FFXI. The % is so much less in FFXIV that it does not matter.

So being Race A over B does not matter at all. So just pick the race you like the most :)

My friend was asking about the hp/mp differences in classes. Besides Galka's higher bit and Taru's higher piety is there a huge difference like ffxi?

Very small one lol to the point that it does not matter. Like i said on my other post pick a race you like don't worry about the stats the game is very casual. It's all about the freedom of playing how you want.

I'll be honest here. I like how the Woodlin Elezen look compared to the Dusk ones, but Dusk had better stats to me. But, with the character customization options, I could get a Woodlin looking Elezen.

That's just me though. I would pick a race I like, then decide between the two varieties of that race. And then, make it look how I want.
