Is it just Sylph or is every server dead?
What do you expect? Square Enix is horrible at managing their playerbase and adding new, sensible, content. When you ban all the players who actually care about your game... guess what? It dies. Just like their company is going to.

The problem is that the players/thieves/RMT it IS drawing in are part of the problem too. They cater the wrong product to the wrong people. Dankdragon said: » What do you expect? This is why XI was basically put on the shelf and prepared to be taken out back and euthanised after the Salvage bans -- all the meaningful players (in the eyes of the playerbase) were exposed as thieves of the intellectual property of Square-Enix. The game HAS revolved around *** clowns like that, and, failing action by Square-Enix, taking the law into one's own hands might be the only option left. It's clear while SoA was designed to retain players the radical paradigm shift has scared off alot of people who put stock in the expansion saving FFXI. What has ensued is a confusing approach to balancing the game through shock 'n awe and promises that almost beg the player to desub or go play FFXIV. Person 1: I don't like FFXI anymore, its awful! You are all dumb for playing it! I am going to play FFXIV!
Person 2: I still like FFXI and your comments are dumb! I don't want to play FFXIV but you are here trying to convince me to, but I don't want to! -Person 1 and Person 2 never change their opinions; continue to argue for eternity- Carbuncle.Sterling said: » Person 1: I don't like FFXI anymore, its awful! Today was the first time I did a /sea all and saw only 500 players. This was a few hours after mant.
People unable to come to a general consensus on a forum, shocking isn't it? I never would have figured that's for sure.
I'd bet 50-75% of all server #s include afk people and bots/RMTs
Please stop using the ff14 beta as an excuse for the low population.. It have been like that since 2012, it just got worse now. Serve merge needs to be done asap. Ffxi will need to go fp2 eventually, or else the game will dry out, people are tired of paying 13$ monthly for no content/extreme mindless plasm grinding. Doesn't worth it,
I know a lot of players that struggle paying 13$. that could be a big factor too, the game is not attractive atm. Siren.Knivesz said: » Dankdragon said: » What do you expect? Everybody knows people cheated in nyzul. If you didn't, you didn't get your pixels. So shut up. Stop hating because I did whatever it took to be the best. Your definition of "best" has always been sub-standard. Putting aside the ridiculous notion that hacking is a prerequisite to beating NNI I couldn't care less whether or not anyone hacked to get the gear. My point was you're a clown for accusing and trying to belittle others cause you "think" they hacked NNI when you yourself actively did it anyway. If i was worried that much about server population, I'd play a newer, more popular game. But i hardly ever have trouble finding xp parties/end game ls's/end game pugs. If nobody is shouting when I'm looking for plasm farms, i shout myself. (never have problems finding members, actually i get /tell spammed most of the time.) Would i like to see the servers overflowing again like it was back in the day, yes. But this game is 11 years old...it is naturally gonna lose players because people getting burnt out, players that want a more modern game, or players growing up and having responsibilities in RL that get in the way of playing. People are growing out of/getting sick of this game faster than new players are signing up. Imo this is why you are seeing lower server populations. But it doesn't mean the game ifs dying....
Edit: stupid phone....also edited the first couple sentences for anyone that didn't "get" what i was trying say.... Asura.Daemonarch said: » it is naturally gonna loser players It's becoming increasingly difficult to find Plasm shouts on Lakshmi the past week, there used to be at least one every hour. Now I see 1-2 a day, and I'm *** bored of sitting in town all day because I can't see Adoulin shouts on ffxiah.
Siren.Knivesz said: » There were 607 people online at 6:07 pm eastern on Siren so you can take that for whatever its worth. This server was never very big anyway as the population always seemed to hover between 1.6 to 1.8k outside JP primetime and north of 2k during said primetime. Edit: Just noticed that the server population number matched the time I did the search on (607 and 6:07 pm est). How freaky is that. Not so freaky. Remember the latest Vanafest, the 2008-2012 goodies that sold rather well (their Japanese only stuff is really nice for a FFXI fan, I recommend it even if moonrunes can make it a bit less appealing), they could easily make us shower them in money. They just choose not to. I don't know the real reason behind it, one thing is certain though, it's not because of some respect toward the customer or whatever, there is something else. In all seriousness, if you play FFXI to play with little to nobody, you should try FFXII instead. I think it's clear that they wanted to see what would happen after Seekers. It's clear now that they need to go to 12 or even 8 servers. However, it's apparent that they want all the XI players to go to XIV. (if you still can't do it, I'll give you a gold medal.) Some do.
Some guy posted not long ago explaining that after 1/2 years of doing it intensively, he didn't get a single piece. I remember when my social LS itself used to call me a cheater when my group started to obtain pieces (not that everyone has always been 100% legit but most of it was). My group sometimes gets a pick up DD if one of our static DD didn't turn up, and if you have seen how some of them plays and imagine what happens if there's 6 of those guys in the team, you'd understand why they think you need to cheat to win. |
