The guy wants to hook up his PS2 controller to a USB to PS2 adapter, why are you guys spouting nonsense about buying another controller?

I'm not sure.

my ps3 controller lasted years without any issues...

/shrug

I would add though to follow behemoth's advice, because if you can get it working without motionjoy, you may as well, that's just the way I knew, so I was relaying it. there are guys on this website that know this stuff better than me.

Only reason to use motionjoy is if you're using a ps3 controller via bluetooth, the rest should be functional with built-in Windows drivers.

Under "Directional Control Devices" on the right, click on 'Menus' and map the 4 directions.

Plug it in, the default drivers that windows installs work. In the FFXI config be sure to default the controller settings and then set your button configs. Don't configure the analog sticks, the default config is what makes it work and trying to config them will break it.

If you've already messed with it or tried to install special drivers you may need to uninstall them.
