Let me start by saying I've searched google for hours on this problem and have not had any luck, so I really hope the FFXIAH community has an answer to this.

So I installed FFXI on my new PC (the digital DL from S.E. store, not Steam). Whenever I use my gamepad I have this odd issue with the mouse cursor. I use the XBox 360 wired controller with official drivers. I have the controls configured similar to the Xbox 360 version of the game. Whenever I press "cancel" (B button) the mouse cursor stays on screen. For example, when I lower the chatlog or exit out of a menu, the mouse cursor appears and doesn't go away no matter how many times I press B button. Every time I press B button the mouse cursor flashes and stays on screen.

I've tried re-installing the game MANY times and it doesn't fix the problem. I've deleted all files associated with FFXI and POL. I even deleted all FFXI/POL registry files and did a clean re-install. Still no luck. I deleted the Xbox 360 controller drivers and re-installed it. I've unplugged my mouse and still the same issue occurs. I'm at a loss for words...

Please FFXIAH community, help me ; ;

What settings have you tried? There are certain oddities about the mouse in ffxi. I've had it mess with my screen and buttons before but never quite like your issue but I've always used a ps2 controller with an adapter.

If you are using windower4 try turning off hardware mouse in the profile options and see if that makes a difference.

I think it's probably the same option as "Enable hardware mouse cursor" in the FFXI config on the misc tab. But you can try both of those to see if it reduces/changes your issues.

I use the xbox 360 controller as well and the best/easiest way to fix this is to simply move the cursor to the top window border (if using windowed mode, which most do). Pretty sure this is mostly caused from the optical mouse registering the slightest movement and making the cursor reappear, so this should solve that issue entirely.

i use a wireless xbox controller. i went into the POL FFXI Config program, and edited the buttons to fit the PS2/Logitech Gamepad setting. However, you may need to get some other drivers to enable the trigger buttons. They are not usable on the wireless, but I have read they can be enabled on the wired versions.

I don't use windower. Funny thing is the xbox 360 controller worked perfectly fine on my last PC while running Fullscreen. Ah well, thank you everyone for your replies, I appreciate it.

The above listed ones do work with the wireless 360 controller for XP/Vista/7 :). Uninstall all of the Microsoft drivers and use those listed instead and then just set them as normal buttons in ffxiconfig.

I've been <Taking a Break.> But staying well read ;)

try that!

it's a free program, there should be a link on this site somewhere in technical support.

I got it to work using a ps3 controller with the standard usb connection.

I think I had the same problem, I can't really remember, it's been a year or so D:

I think it might be because your controller might be in the Player2 slot instead of the player1, it's not labeled so it was kind of annoying to finally figure that out lol.

You could try and go into devices/printers and click game control settings on your Twin USB Joystick then hit properties and see if you are able to test it there. Once you find which one is the right one, click advanced and make that one the preferred device.

Once you have the right one as the preferred device, you should be able to test it in FinalFantasy Config!

I'm not much help, just trying to remember what I had to do. D: Good luck and I hope you can get it working

God no, stay the HELL away from motionjoy! You should not need to install junk on your machine to get a USB to PS2 controller working. First things first, go in your control panel and verify that your controller works within windows.

Motionjoy wrecks default plug and play drivers and is a pain in the *** to revert.

To check your windows game controller configuration, hit your start menu and in your search field, type 'Game controller' then select 'Setup USB Game controllers'. Then, you're supposed to have the USB interface you're using to connect the PS2 controller listed. (If not see below) If it is listed, click on properties and you should be able to check all the buttons, and remember to click on the 'Analog' button on the middle of your ps2 gamepad for the analogs to work.

If it is not listed, it means the USB to PS2 plug and play driver did not install or is damaged in some way ( Windows7 does not need any driver downloaded for generic USB to PS2 adapters, that means don't install junk on your machine!). Try to plug it in a different USB port and do NOT use USB hubs or extensions, hook it on the back of your computer in an available port.

Let us know what you tried.

Minus the fact you destroy a 40 dollar controller in about 6 months from macro spam. Maybe it's just me and my Goliath hands but still not worth it. The triggers are also a little long for my FFXI liking.

My personal favorite over the years which I'm pretty sure I have said before in this thread is the Logitech F310, usually 25 bucks or so after shipping from newegg, feels nice and lasts at least a year most of the time. They also make a wireless one which I have "F710" or something but there is a noticeable lag especially when the batteries start dying. (It's also $45). I use the wireless one for my alt characters on another PC, works great for that.

Newegg gamepads(F310 on top)

I've also used some cheap crap from RadioShack , the gigaware wired controller because when you need something for today it works and is easy and somewhat durable at least for 10 bucks. The buttons and sticks are pretty noisy though which might piss off your girlfriend who is trying to do homework next to you.

When I'm not on FFXI, most of my gaming is usually the current halo, and I can only use wired controllers because of the little bit of lag from wireless 360 controllers and my hands don't fit comfortably with the battery pack. But FFXI puts some serious abuse on 360 controllers. I stopped using them because the last one I did only lasted 3 months before the left joystick press (lock on to target in FF) completely stopped working and the triggers starting becoming intermittent and squeaky. I'm sure a portion of this is due to my compulsion to push the macro button about 5 times to switch between TP/PDT/Hybrid/ws/whatever but I know I'm not the only one who feels the need to do so. They obviously work well and feel great after you get the 3rd party drivers but I wasn't willing to shell out 40 bucks every 3 months for a game pad for an 11 year old game.

Which brings my back full circle to the F310. Feels great, relatively cheap, durable.

There are also refurbished ones for cheap and a bundle of other controllers in the linky

Did you turn on the Analog button? My GF uses the same thing (PS2 Dual Shock with the same blue PS2 > USB. The buttons and the analog sticks only work properly when she has the Analog button turned on.
