CW Question
Just wondering since I haven't been able to find it myself. What gear do BLU use for movement speed when pulling for CW or is it not that important? Also, would an Eva set with 2x Eva sword be viable instead of -PDT? I'm a Mithra so my dex and agi are usually pretty high ^^ Last but not least.. until I can get Lion and Blinding Horn atmas.. will my Minikin, Razed Ruins and Hell's Guardian do alright?
Our movement speed comes from Crimson/Blood cuisses, and is actually quite helpful for minimizing damage while gathering mobs. Prothescar advocates an EVA set over PDT for cleaving, and I know mine's worked quite well also. RR and Hell's Guardian are two of his recommended atmas as well, so those should be just fine.
If you have any other questions, I'd take a look at this : http://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/20806/azure-lore-a-guide-to-aoe-burning-on-blue-mage/ More info can be found at the sticky thread all related to CW burning.
Movement speed is important just to speed up your pull. You definitely need to replace RR at a minimum. There's nothing wrong with burning with MM if you have a decent CW set. I personally use this for pulling/idle: Movement speed should always be using Crimson/Blood cuisses, if these are out of your reach then use Desultor Tassets from the ASA expansion.
Depending on what you're pulling; pdt is usually the best way to go with phalanx, sometimes phalanx is more than enough until monsters level up. I'm not sure what atmas are good for whisker if you don't have Lion or Blinding horn, but Minikin, Razed Ruins and Hell's guardian should suffice. Thanks for the responses ^_^
Until I get movement speed pants, is it viable to try and CW burn without? It helps but it's not a requirement. Just be prepared to take a bit more damage and either make smaller pulls or plan your paths better.

Ofcourse it is~ You just need to be a little bit more careful. iv cw'ed all kinds of mobs. Ive never had the need for a movement speed+ gear. Ive even heard from a few ppl of issues with mobs deagroing.
Eva as a primary over PDT doesn't make much sense to me. Eva can only go so high. There is always a chance the mob will hit you. And if you have 10-20 mobs on you, then your going to get hit a bit, at full force. Plus at 99 you should already have a decent Eva agains mobs already. So capped PDT plus that natural Eva should work better then just boosting Eva alone. Something like should work just fine. (Replace neck with twilight torque if u have it.) Neck+ back=10%pdt- rings=10% staff=20% Lion atma=10% Five pieces and your PDT is capped. I like to fill the rest in with spell interrupt down just incase you do get in a bad situation. And most everything their aside from the dark rings is either easy or AH obtainable. Definitely not a requirement. Mobs path very poorly as it is, moreso in areas with uneven terrain, and usually get left behind out of melee range. Like was said, movement+ is more for efficiency while pulling than damage mitigation.
Thanks again! ^_^ I'll try both Eva and PDT and see which seems to work better

If your mobs decided to take a U turn on the ledge of a hill, with your movement speed you can go to them, stay where you are, wait for them to get back to you and hit you, then be on your way. Allowing your pull to deaggro is kinda careless and shouldn't be related to your movement speed unless you allowed it to happen yourself. edit: To each their own, but I wouldn't use Terra's or Earth staff during your pull as its nice to do a WoR once your back at your camp. With ISL chests, that 300% TP is nice to have with your swords equipped, not losing it because you switched to your staff for your pull only. i use the staff because i don't feel like making two PDT- swords for the same thing. I just add an equip sword line in the macro before moving onto WoR. I don't worry about a tp loss because the WoR and CW is more then enough to kill em off usually.
Edit: Plus u have efflux I'm personally a fan of eva gear myself, i very rarely carry a pdt set on blu, damn those space limitations. I don't even use staffs, i generally just gear the same as i melee, with the exception i use almace/genbu instead of double/sword. I use a generic Whisker set made of what i already have on me, with atmas i've never had a prob killing mass mobs with Wor and then finishing off with CW. People tend to want those 7k whiskers but to me seems overkill when you can just half *** it for the same results.
Rather than hurting your inventory making a straight evasion set or straight pdt set, just put what you usually carry together & rock a hybrid. I put most of my hybrid evasion set together with random dt-/pdt- pieces I carry & it works just fine. I mean come on...its lolabys

It's also useful for more than just AoE burning. |
