Neo-Salvage Gear Discussion

Unless there's an augmenting system we don't know about, this ***is a joke. Some minor sidegrades/upgrades for various jobs, but the most significant thing I can find in this update is that we get to idle in Morri/Marduk again.
Odin.Akhilleus said: » I am of the opinion these pieces will be +2-able such is the current trend and the drama surrounding the launch patch is just verbal premature ejaculation. Hold ye horses people, don't yet assume the worst. It's a possibility though, but the chances of it happening are extremely slim. If all the mobs ***Alex perhaps this event will be saved but minor sidegrades in an event that once defined the tippity top of FFXI endgame is not Salvage. When Nyzul 2.0 dropped it wasnt "yeah, this could be useful" it was "omg this ***is unbelievably powerful" much like Salvage way back in the day.
Now to see how runs go for groups initially taking a stab at runs. Fenrir.Nightfyre said: » Unless there's an augmenting system we don't know about, this ***is a joke. For people who don't have Khepri Gloves? Curious how they compare to Myrmex for physical spells other than Heavy Strike... If Salvage gear was intended to be +2able then they should have added it this update rather than incite the inevitable displeasure at an underwhelming update. The only possible saving grace I see at this point is if there's an augment system, but I find that unlikely since we can store this gear and no mention was made of augments and storage a la relic +2.

And in that statement you just answered as to why Salvage couldn't also be THAT good. You can't have game changing ***like NNI, followed by game-changing ***in Salvage. Then you'd have people crying about how much work they put into NNI (or you'll get the folks that laugh because they cheated for it anyways), when this stuff would blow it out of the water. Not all updates that include new gear can reinvent the wheel. I think people are forgetting that and just want more and more shinies. WAR/DRG/DRK get basically nothing, SAM gets new TP feet, MNK gets yet another TP head sidegrade, NIN/THF/DNC get some very minor upgrades, buff jobs get some minor upgrades that don't actually matter + some melee WHM stuff, and SMN gets things but nobody bothered to care. PLD maybe got a new pair of TP legs. BST got pet hands iirc? Didn't look at RNG/COR. BLM/RDM/SCH get some minor nuking upgrades. I was already on my way out but seriously, I hope this event shits alexandrite for you guys. Frankly at this point people wouldn't care because Salvage being popular is win/win for hardcores as it means more people looting the place for Alexandrite when in turn funds Mythics - weapons being obtained by those with the most dedication to FFXI or deep enough bank accounts. A lackluster set of gear from Salvage means unless this content is super easy (it probably isn't) casuals won't be running it often enough to dent the Alexandrite demand and thus we're back to square one. Dynamis brought down currency prices only because any moron could zone in for 2hours and make a mint. You need a team for Salvage and that means either having an army of multiboxers (often not casuals) or people who want to do the content. By your account, the people with 100 Nyzul gear most likely cheated for it and so much time wasn't putting into obtaining it so new Salvage would simply become the flavor of the month to chase. Also, it isn't like SE couldn't introduce more powerful gear with other situational applications in much the same way that Nyzul 100 gear in some slots is swapped on and off as needed. Actually that's EXACTLY what these gear sets are.... Do you notice a lot of new enfeeblings/enhancing/pet pieces (situational!)? Or upgrades when certain buffs are down (sch + klimaform down = new nuking shoes). Holy crap.. I think they've done it! Inventory limitations are still a thing.

To compare these situational pieces to what Nyzul 100 offered is to miss the point that the jump from previous gear to Nyzul 100 situationals is not equal to the jump from current gear to Salvage+1s. I see a number of utility pieces but most of it is very minor and barely outshines (stupidly) easily accessible Empyrean+2. Unless this gear is very easy to obtain like Limbus II (which is what I'm betting) this gear isn't worth the time Salvage demands regarding low as ***drop rates. But again, perhaps Alexandrite makes up for this. Dynamis II wasn't that great on paper till people started walking out of the place with 200+ currency a run. No. I think you're missing the point here actually. NNI was the big upgrade event. What is left after major? Minor/situational/sidegrades. That's what this is.... Yeah, but if you compare the price of -1 vs neo-salvage....yeah I'd take the neo salvage vs the 2 blu skill 2 STR, ya? As far as we know this, Meebles, and PAAM are going to carry us til Adoulin. Given the dearth of actual content of late and lack of significant upgrades thus far from Meebles, "minor" is not an option. The majority of pieces needed to constitute some form of functional upgrade for at least a couple of their jobs and that straight up did not happen here.

I would classify usukane sune-ate+1 as a "minor" to ace's feet for sam, no? Or a minor upgrade to pup ya? Are you intentionally being dense?
Fenrir.Nightfyre said: » Are you intentionally being dense? -_- No. What I'm saying is people are raging too hard over this stuff, when quite a few of these new gears have some use. Odin.Eikechi said: » No. I think you're missing the point here actually. NNI was the big upgrade event. What is left after major? Minor/situational/sidegrades. That's what this is.... Sidegrades can be major. These pieces don't compete with Nyzul gear in many of the cases. Since Nyzul 100 is slated to become harder to attain with the incoming nerfs to Embrava, Salvage II would have been a great place to put competitive w/Nyzul 100 gear to compensate for the immense luck it's going to take the average schmuck to hit 100. Want luck? Do Nyzul. Want consistency? Do Salvage. Both could have lead to upgrades. Like all FFXI gear it'd be situational with a few best in slot pieces like Thaumas / Phorcys body. These pieces aren't that competitive. 4 pieces jumped out immediately to me but most are very minor sidegrades to Legion gear and it's looking like Limbus II all over again - a ghost town once the initial first movers run 'n gun the content for their pieces. I'm fine with 'minor upgrades', but when the piece I have second on my priority list for my top 4 jobs gives 2% less song spell casting time (when Im already at -74% which makes it tough to get my correct buff gear back on after the spell starts) it feels underwhelming.
I don't see anyone I know renewing their subscriptions for this :|
Back to my spot in Port Jeuno! Odin.Eikechi said: » Fenrir.Nightfyre said: » Are you intentionally being dense? -_- No. What I'm saying is people are raging too hard over this stuff, when quite a few of these new gears have some use. You're being dense one way or another. The problem is not that the gear is completely useless, it's that it's only marginally useful at best. How much do those feet change builds for SAM? You get to knock out 4 STP in another slot. Okay... How much does that change your build? You can knock out Misuuchi or Tyrant's for Atheling/Letalis or Mars? You could trade your Domaru for Tenryu +1? How much are you actually gaining by that? And that's arguably the best melee item to come out of Salvage this update in that it's an upgrade for SAM, NIN, and (evidently) PUP. Look at the rest of the set. How useful are the other 4 pieces? Head +1 is a <0.5% upgrade for MNK. PUP gets some new legs. Out of 10 pieces, that's basically all you get. I'm supposed to be excited? Not going to happen. Odin.Eikechi said: » Fenrir.Nightfyre said: » Are you intentionally being dense? -_- No. What I'm saying is people are raging too hard over this stuff, when quite a few of these new gears have some use. stop being so dense, look at the bigger picture here and ask yourself if this update was really what you expected, and if it is actually going to help the playerbase as it stands right now (in the long run) then proceed to rage with the rest of us >.>; lol Lakshmi.Sparthosx said: » Odin.Eikechi said: » No. I think you're missing the point here actually. Quite a few pieces have been listed as situational use. Or a piece that isn't top-tier, but not trash. Don't have access to NNI? Get a piece of comparable gear here in neo-salvage. What is so far ahead of these that's out there? I mean the hexed-1 stuff is pretty damn good, but good luck finding those pieces, much less paying through your nose for them. Don't have that kind of gil? Well there is neo-salvage gear. Again, you can't reinvent the wheel with every update >_<. I guess I've said all I can say here. If you really don't like the new gear, don't do the content? *shrug* Fairy.Ghaleon said: » Odin.Eikechi said: » Fenrir.Nightfyre said: » Are you intentionally being dense? -_- No. What I'm saying is people are raging too hard over this stuff, when quite a few of these new gears have some use. stop being so dense, look at the bigger picture here and ask yourself if this update was really what you expected, and if it is actually going to help the playerbase as it stands right now (in the long run) then proceed to rage with the rest of us >.>; lol lol I did laugh at this man.
