Skill Up

So my friend just burned his blue against my advice of grinding levels and skilling up. When I leveled you had to have skill to learn spells. When I hunted I checked wiki and it showed the minimum skill lvl to learn the spell. I checked it for him so I could tell him the ones he would need to get him by and they now say minimum level. My question is did they change how we learn spells Boris it still skill base?

Also what is best way to skill up fast these days.. He has 98 skill at the moment.

It's skill level, it probably just means the skill cap at that level.

First of all: shame on your friend for burning blue mage. I always highly advice against burning jobs, ESPECIALLY Blue mage since it really changes a lot every few levels due to the spells you can set. At 99, about 80% of the spells learned aren't used anymore. But to answer your questions:

1) No, learning blue spells is still the same as ever.
2) Spam self-cast spells and/or spam low MP spells on DC/EM enemies of your current skill level. (i.e Foot Kick, Sprout Smack, Sandspin)

self casting (like pollen) takes forever :x but if he want to afk skill can do that, but skillups on mobs will be faster (what Gameesh suggested)

Thanks and ya I was mad he did that of all jobs I told him blue would be the worst to burn. He is in his 40s so he doesn't have the patience lol. Thanks for the help

Pollen might take a few boring hours, but it works well in the beggining. By the time that really starts to slow down you can learn a few multi hit spells and work on crabs. (B.Tree if needed, abby mis, abby grauberg) Learning a few healing/defencvie spells might help to. Or get a friend that can handle crabs easily to voke/flash the mob and keep hate, while blu spams the multi hit spells.

I built a decent PDT set equipped sandspin and all the sleeps I could equip and spam sandspin over and over and sleep massive groups of mobs. I capped blue magic in a day doing this. I suggest the leeches in Aby Konst. Or if you're a good friend and can tank for him while said friend spams sandspin won't take long at all using B.E.W Food. Have fun!!

sidenote: I did this on the Golems in Aby Ule. at flux 7. That's how I found out that you can skill up on every mob sandspin hits so there's that to think about ;).

Maybe I'm overre-acting here a little bit, but in my opinion if you don't have the patience then Blue mage is not your job. Quite possibly the most time-consuming job in the game. I'm a big fan of the job and enjoy learning new spells immensily (even if it takes days). It's what defines the job; take the time to appreciate it or just level something else.

I would say that it's the easiest job to skill up Magically though. Since everything you cast is Blue Magic. Wish Summoning Magic was easier to skill up talk about a nightmare..

i just found scripts and modded them for each job (magic skill) i needed to cap on. capped blu, smn, enhance, healing, divine and dark magic that way. (divine and dark via enspells on drk and pld) took about a week to cap all those afk with scripts. but my smn magic alone was the majority of it all, about 5 out of 7 of those days.

Put on all refresh gear you can, go to bed, wake up with higher Blue Magic skill.

I had a ~34BLU that I burned up to 95 (cap at the time), and it took me about 3 nights to get capped blue magic skill. Also did enhancing and healing on RDM this way. Find a far-off corner of a seldom-used zone if you're concerned about someone GM'ing you.

Thanks ...he is not a end game player he just likes to abyssea . He plays Xbox so afk casting might be tough.

On a side note to do casting with scripts I assume you need windower. Is there a windower for dummies reference? I myself would like to do spellcast and smn skill ups as well

There's nothing wrong with burning BLU. I power leveled my BLU to 30, learned sandspin, got in a FC party, skilled up to about 15 or so in that FC party before I went afk for the night.
I woke up at level 99 the next day, learned pollen and afk skilled up while at work/sleeping, then went out and learned all the following spells:
These include all the proc spells and almost all of the spells that are useful today (missing Bloodrake and Tourbilion) plus probably an extra spell or so in there that's not useful (like Jettataru).

Anyway, in-between learning these spells, I camped the NMs for Almace, finished any AF3+2 gear I was missing, did a couple Sea runs to upgrade AF1 body to +1, and then over time I farmed/bought some gear for different gear sets.

So yeah I've only had the job unlocked for a few months now, but I have 5/5 Thaumas that I obtained all from playing BLU and I usually farm dynamis as BLU and make a little over 300 currency per run with a 2-boxed alt.

Nothing wrong with burning the job, as long as you take the time to read up on the job and understand how to play it, and then playing around with it a little to get the hang of it. I've probably read Prothescar's guide to Blue Mage about a dozen times or so. Read the Charged Whisker guide a few times. I've read through almost every BLU post on these forums (first few pages anyway) and asked questions about anything I didn't learn here. After that it was just a matter of getting used to playing the job. Like knowing what spell to use in reaction to certain situations. My first time in Nyzul it took me a while to get the hang of things, but now my group won't let me come on any other job. There are still a few things I could be doing better but I highly doubt that leveling the job on my own would have done me any good. It would've just been an annoying hassle and a huge waste of time.

Also worth getting as much +blue magic skill gear as possible as well as the af hands to help your friend learn spells after capping blue magic. If he/she's got space on merits i'd merit blue magic skill as well.

Spellcast for dummies ? I would .like to find out how u afk skill up myself. Smn has been rough to skill. Any help I never used scripts but I do have windower.
