Camera Trouble
Ive been playing FFXI for a while now and I just started having a problem where when I'm moving around and canceling out of menus, my camera stutters. It's not a big problem but I recently figured out that holding the cancel button causes the camera to lock in place. Is there a way to disable this. I use a PS2 controller with a USB connector and I play with windower but im pretty sure its not caused by either of those. It started happening after one of the last updates and I'm not sure what to do.
It's the mouse. That happens when you move the pointer to the edge of the screen and it's stuck on the "mouse control mode". If you use windowed mode and switch back to the game by clicking inside of the game window you will have either a stuck camera or a running char (depends on how you set up the mouse control).
Clicking around with the two mouse buttons inside the window (one at a time) usually fix the issue. To completely avoid the problem use the taskbar to bring the game window back. Alternatively you can click on the top bar of the game window. Just avoid clicking inside, where the game image is displayed. I just need to click in the top left corner of my ffxi window with my mouse if this happends.
Why the top left corner? no idea. It's actually the keyboard scheme, if you change it to full keyboard (in the ingame config) instead of compact2 it won't stutter your camera while pressing the gamepad cancel anymore. As long the mouse pointer is inside of the game image window area and you click L and R mouse buttons(as you usually can't tell which button will unstuck it). I think there's something funky with my resolution and that I fullscreen the little window. So I gotta press up in the left corner :P In the FFXI config, there are some menu options down at the bottom:
Operate menus with movement controls Operate camera with moment controls Toggle movement, menu and or camera controls. You may try changing those to blank(very bottom option) if they have a setting, particularly if that setting is the same as your cancel button. I'm pretty sure this is what I did when it happened to me. Might also be Enable slider, enable hat switches since I've no clue what those do. Hope that helps. "Operate menus with movement controls" will cause the analog axis that is assigned to character movements to operate as the cursor keys on the keyboard on the menus. "Operate camera with movement controls" will do the same as above when the button is pressed, but the target will be the camera motion. "Toggle movement, menu, and/or camera controls" will do the same as the other two mentioned functions but on a cycle manner. Slider I am not sure but might refer to the "throttle" analog axis that some controllers have. I use a PC USB controller that works like a PS2 pad so it does not have such a button. Hat switches refer to the PoV (Point of View) hat some analog controllers have. In FFXI it's used to control the menus or cycle targets while the cursor is on "free mode". While this might appear to be irrelevant to the OP post, it might be related to the issue if there is or have been a game pad connected to the computer at some point. Thanks a bunch Behemothx, I did what you said and I haven't had a problem since. =^v^=
