Would you do it all over again?

Let's say you wake up, aside from economy(you forget anything at all dealing with price), you have all current knowledge of the game, and anything you did in this game was a dream.
Would you start over?
Would it be fun to play knowing all the stuff we know now that we didn't then? You could potentially be the best player on your server, on all servers with current knowledge on how to gear.
Would you be too impatient to play in the game, waiting for a lot of the awesome updates we've gotten? (Could you go back to your 2handed job, years before the 2handed update was even thought of?)
How would you try to influence old events/ways of thinking (before paresers and such, spike damage was considered the best damage and a DoT job like MNK was thought to be ***tier; exp'ing on mobs that took a long *** time to kill and utilizing skillchain/magic burst was thought to be the best exp, rather than going for mobs that yielded a bit less exp, but could be killed much faster and easier chained).
Etc. etc.
If you could start over with all of your current knowledge, would you and if so, how would you do things differently. What knowledge would you share and what would you keep to yourself. Would you tell everyone, or just people in your ls so that you guys could further pull ahead of everyone else.
Just thought it'd be interesting to see how people would play the game in this fashion

I'd level mnk, get the base relic h2h and just asuran nonstop, and then when they nerf that I'd level sam and penta spam nonstop, and when they nerf that I'd level ninja until dancer came out, sam would be useful in endgame and I'd just play that nonstop. Finally when abyssea comes out I would nin nonstop until I had a kannagi, wear pink, and play smn nonstop until they nerf alexander
XP
edit: Oh and I would memorize ALL of the bonanza numbers, making SE scratch their head on how I won 10 rank 1 prizes every year for 5 years

That's a great question. I'd definitely do it all over again and I would change a few things. I'd still play sam and war pre-2h update, but I'd level blm so that I got to do a lil more than just smash things with a melee job. I was never the guy that MB'd those big SCs, I was always the guy that just created those SCs. Sam/thf was pretty solid for hate control during sky and stuff, so that was my job (or war/thf Gaxe style). Since people don't really SC anymore, I don't really get those big MBs they did back then.
As far as strategy changes and things of that ilk, It would be damn hard to convince people you KNOW what's going to be changed (say if it only happened to you in the scenario), so I'm not sure much would change that way. Awesome question and I hope more people get in on this. Great job man. What would you do Tiger?

I'd probably still do RDM as my first job, but properly gear it up as a tank and a normal RDM (And be way better at it, knowing how to gear it properly :P)
Other than that it's hard to say really.. I don't think I'd wanna change too much in the order I'd level stuff.

I would do everything exactly the same except:
1) I would not give my ls leader that I had known since starting playing info to my account after 2 years.
2) I would not regear my same account after getting hacked the first time believing it was a random hacking.
3) I would not copy/paste an ascii picture into ls chat while a person in my ls was talking to a GM about some random issue.
4) I would have made an extra mule and would not have taken my main into the runs I sold dupped salvage drops
5) I would have told my friend not to send me a tell with the N word in it.
So basically I would just try not lose my account every 2~ years.

I would get the word out that pup is an awesome job -.-
I would definately have bought the alex when they were way cheaper and probably do more mythics.
Knowledge of how the AH price fluctuates over time is a massive boost in what to buy and when to buy it.
I would still have leveled pup back in the say but only for solo purposes, its insanely powerful now but then it wasnt so much.
I would give /tells to the friends I have now and be friends earlier and screw over those people that were ***.
PUP RULES!

I would do it all over again, simply to rectify the mistakes I've made with other people in the past.
Even knowing what I know now about the direction of the game and whatnot, I'd still play the classes I enjoy the most, and any other knowledge would merely be a foresight to exploit minor gains in capital. But my only real regrets were some of the things I've said and the bridges I shouldn't have burned.

If everyone started all over again, that would be cool building bonds with people; leveling, doing quests and missions together, dying for good laughs. Even running all the way to jeuno together. `Although I hated the low level xp per hour in parties, it was still fun to make new friends.

Nah, I wouldn't. While I admit I definitely had fun playing over the years, I regret the amount of time I spent on mmo's over the last decade..it had a pretty negative impact on me during my university years. To be honest, my life has gotten a LOT better since I quit playing them.
But hey, that's just me, everybody's different.

Lol, you're right, I do check out the forums from time to time! Been a few months, though.
I'm glad the game is still chugging along, must mean some people are still having a good time with it!

Oh god I would never start this stupid game over again. Biggest mistake ever lol!
But if I did(!), I wouldn't solo my whm to level 40 on easy preys before even the first exp boost(30 exp each), I'd get into parties this time lol.

But even before a lot of updates, a lot of things were just plain inefficient, even though we thought otherwise, due to lack of game formulas and things like that. Was more of referring to that.
Quote: What would you do Tiger? And I have two tests today, but I'll do a write up and read the rest of this thread afterwards.
Edit: Will do a full write up later, as stated earlier, but one thing I'd definitely do,
I'd put more emphasis on leveling in the beginning, so I can get high enough to solo a lot of NMs before pop conditions, windows, etc. are discovered, collect things like Okotes, Peacock charm, Fuma etc. early on before there's competition.

I've been starting over for years. Hell, this character was a do-over. So, I'd safely say yes.

you had better reason to make a yagrush back then than now
By Zeota 2012-09-17 07:20:02
A number of things come to mind.
1) I would've given the game more of a chance than I did in the first year or so of it coming out in the states. I got up to Elshimo and just got so frustrated with finding parties, making money etc. that I just said "*** it" altogether.Part of it stemmed from having a much faster paced game like PSO as my previous mainstay. Would've improved my "endurance" skill knowing that much better stuff was coming down the pike. Not sure what it was that made me come back but I'm glad I did.
2) I wouldn't have leveled PLD as my first 75 job. Probably MNK or BLM but the latter was a known "trap job" back in the day.
3) I would've done a better job staying on top of stuff like missions as they came out.

There are days I wish it were all a dream but.. well, I got something more tangible out of the game so I'd do everything again and the same. Except.. I'd get the outside of game contact info for some great friends who poofed years ago.

I would wait until mid-2012 to make characters, cap them in a few months for the new expansion, and leave it at that.
A fully predictable timesink is just aspie territory, why bother? The only reason most people played is because it was all new/unexpected.
By Starrman 2012-09-17 07:32:11
As bad of exp as it was, I miss 3+ parties in valk at the lizard camp. That's where you learned how to claim.
By Drjones 2012-09-17 07:40:50
Absolutely not.
It was fine the first time through, but I don't think I could bring myself to slog through this game again from the very beginning.

I can say with 100 percent certainty that I enjoyed the game three times more back at 75 cap then I do now

Definitely.
I still enjoy playing this game to this day.
If I could do it all over again, I would:
Level another job other than THF after getting 75. There's nothing like having all those Sky points and not having a job to use and lot on the best drops there.
Level a craft :-)

I basically accomplished everything I had wanted to aside from relic, which I was in a long long line to even be considered for sponsoring dyna, so that wasn't going to happen.
After completing my mnk to it's near fullest (sans relic), simply wasn't anything left for me. Didn't have the drive to take another job as seriously as I did mnk, but still leveled a few other things and geared them well (just not to uberhood)
Kinda of like beating Grand Theft Auto. Beat the storyline and then after the credits, you have a little fun running around killing people but then you just turn the game off

You managed to complete a grand theft auto? I'm impressed, I turn it on, go on a rampage, turn it off after 10-20mins.
Think the only grand theft auto-like game I managed to get half way was red dead redemption

No I would not do it all over again. I would run far far away from this game!
