Wii U Launch Date, Price Announced!
By Kimble2013 2012-09-16 18:44:14
Sorry, was 50% more, not 80. Its rumor though.
"Previously rumored to be roughly 50% more powerful than PS3. (Source: IGN) Recent reports of actual hardware however suggest it to be much greater, putting it around 20% less powerful than the next gen Xbox (which is rumored to be at least 6 times more powerful than current gen consoles). Again, all rumors however."

Sony is going to do the same with the Vita. People will always try and copy.
Not really the same thing... but if you want to bring that into the discuss, then that was also Nintendo's idea. GameCube+GBA games. FF:CC and Zelda: FSA would be a proto-type for the type of games we are seeing now.
*edit* BTW my point was about people copying. Its about people saying that Microsoft's 'Smart Glass' idea is invoative, and Nintendo's Wii U gamepad is a gimmic. They are the same ****ing thing! And Nintendo came up with it first and gets no credit @.@
microsoft isn't forcing people to play games with their smartglass >.> and they are using cellphones / tablets you already own.
nintendo is forcing people to buy an overpriced outdated spec of a console and the only reason the price is so high is because we have to pay for the gimmick of a tablet-controller. I think nintendo would have gold if they made the tablet-controller just an addon rather than forcing 3rd party companies to design or port their game to the wii u around their tablet-controller.
(lets face it, most of the wiiu 3rd party games are going to be ports)
Problem with your statement besides those pointed out by Kimble. If you don't own a tablet or smartphone you can't use smartglass. So Microsoft is forcing you to buy something. And to assume that Microsoft isn't going to use smartglass for gaming is rediculous. Sooner or later there will be a smartglass games and those who don't have a tablet or smartphone will be screwed. Also it's funny how people focus more on the specs of a system rather than the quility of the experince it gives. It's no better then judging a game on graphics rather than gameplay. Serveral people still play old NES SNES and Genesis games because of gameplay not graphics.
*edit* Also, by your comments you seem to think any smartphone/tablet will work. I seriously doubt that. There will be compatibilities issues and some products will simply not be support. I doubt Apple would willing let Mircosoft make money off someone connecting it's products to a 360 (also a lot of other companies will want a piece of microsofts profits from the venture). If you don't have the right device you are again screwed. Also smartglass will most likely not be a free service if your using a device you already own. They will most likely be a subsciption fee or you will have to have something in smartphone contact or something along that line. Microsoft isn't in the business of making peoples lives easy. I mean why release the 360 with a >60% failure rate. It's all about profits.

First of all, reports are saying the Wii U is 80% better than a PS3 and only about 20% weaker than what a 720 will be. Its outdated as far as comparing to PC is but so is every other console when they come out.
And whats funny is, people bitched that the Wii didn't get games that other consoles get, out of the gate, the Wii U will have more cross platform support (Mass Effect 3, Tekken Tag, Arkham City, Assassin's Creed 3, Darksiders II) but people *** "those games are already out!" Then they get a 3rd party game like Bayonetta and people *** that its only going to be on the Wii U. lol.
You can call anything a gimmick but really, won't have any idea how he public will take it till it comes out.
Can say what you want, but the Wii was the highest selling console world wide. They seem to be doing alright.
not really, the technology in consoles is not the same in computers (usually different types of processors).
Not to mention that a single purpose console doesn't need as much "power" as a multiapplication cpu.
Also: there's a difference between a $350 console, and high end PC's.
instead of trying to throw overpriced proprietary expandable memory for more profit.
I still don't get why they didn't just allow the user to upgrade the HDD.
I'm still not sure if they won't, but considering they're using flash memory for the HDD and not a magnetic disk, I can see them using some of it for system side things, that wouldn't run as well on like a magnetic disk. (if they do indeed go that route, and I would hope they do).
edit: I guess it helps to look at it from an engineers perspective...

there's certainly a difference of a game when the majority of the budget is spent on programming/story/quality, and not just on graphics (the way it looks), There's a good reason why a lot of people stick to their old games.
I miss being able to replay a game a dozen times and not get bored with it, they rarely make games like that anymore.

I'm just hoping that the fact that they are going to have the pro controller will mean that all ganes will support it. It would be great to have the option of avoiding having to use that gimmicky tablet thing.
If this turns out to be the case, then yeah, I'll definitely buy the system, sell the tablet on ebay or something, and pick up a pro controller.

Maybe wait and see what the tablet is like first? lol.
I see a lot of people knocking it before even trying it out. It looks pretty good with ZombiU

Well considering no games are coming out for the next 6 months that support 2 tablets, won't be selling one unless someone breaks theirs and needs a new one.

Considering a fair share of kids will be playing, thats pretty likely to happen.

sure it's not the cartridge connection that's faulty? those things are the first to wear out and start making poor contact, etc.
there's very little inside a cart that can possibly fail, besides the battery (if there even is one)

I broke my Pokemon Yellow cart, but I think it's just lose inside, I need to hunt it down to see if I can fix it (since I have the tool now).

Ah the good old 1st generation pokemon. Yellow was a pain at the start taking down Brock. Though it's funny you can get Mew by a glitch with all 3 versions.

I mean beating Brock in yellow he was a right pain. You can find the Mew glitch on youtube. Very accurate guides on how to glitch one in to battle and capture.

most assuredly the contacts

Its easy to replace as well. I think Nintendo will still sale you the contact directly.

I guess you could try replating them... I replaced my old console game collection with flash carts and haven't looked back

not sure it's worth the effort tbh, I barely use it over emulation :\

don't recall any legit Mew glitch, and I've tried several.
remember reading about one about a year or two ago that was legit, sorry...
Brock was a pansy, what you be talkin' bout?

considering a lot of flash carts aren't perfect (not sure on gb and such but I know there doesn't exist a perfect SNES cart yet, and the popular one that does exist is expensive and uses CF cards).
I'll just use emulation anyway, save states make it worth it, which reminds me. I need to get back to try to get my emulators working on my Pi. I need to find some people who are good at compiling.
By Kimble2013 2012-09-16 22:41:57
I wish I still had an NES. Emulators are good and all, but I dunno, just something about getting in front of a TV with an old NES/SNES controller is awesome to me. Guess it just reminds me of my childhood.

Can still play it on an HD TV, just not a gun game like duck hunt.

the only problem with my SNES cart is it doesn't support enhanced chips, which is less of a problem and more of an inconvenience. Otherwise functions flawlessly.. I've been using emulators since before there were even English ones available, back before nesticle changed everything, and I must say, there may be no such thing as a perfect flash cart but there's certainly no such thing as a perfect emulator even in this day and age. I just can't stand glitches

meh, I can think of 2 emulators that are either perfect or near perfect, but both SNES, others not so much.
A guy was working on a perfect flash cart, but idk where he was in the project as of late, I'd have to hunt it down again.
(lol nesticle, emulator was great).
So Nintendo has finally released its launch information for Wii U.
Gamespot Link - (linking gamespot because I'm tired of IGN's ads and embedded videos)
Highlights ~ 2 versions, Basic ($299) and Premium ($350) to be released Nov. 18 in NA, Nov 30th in Europe, Dec 8th in Japan.
Basic version - White console, 8 GB, HDMI cable, Gamepad, Sensor Bar
Premium - Black console, 32 GB, HDMI, Sensor Bar, Gamepad, Charger + Stand, Nintendo Network Premium Subscription (online service), Nintendoland (game)
Launch Titles - New Mario, ZombiU, Rayman, Mass Effect 3, FIFA 13, CoD: BO2, NintendoLand. Nintendo also confirmed around 50 games will be releasing for the console between launch date and March, including Bayonetta 2, which will be a Wii U exclusive. Games will retail at $60. Gamepads are not sold separately.
Most surprising thing to me is the basic version only has a 8 GB HD.
