Good morning!
One thing we have seen players asking about is whether it would be possible to add weapon sheaths. From a technical standpoint, weapons make the same movements that a sheath would make, so it would be possible to add a skin over each weapon; however, depending on the weapon some of the animations may look a bit strange.
The problem is that adding a sheath model for every single weapon would take a considerable amount of work and it is just not possible to address all of the existing weapons.
In the future, however, we’d like to try to use the opportunity when new, unique weapons are added to design sheaths. With that said, as it’s not possible to do immediately, please look forward to it as a future possibility. | |
Do you think FFXI should get weapon sheaths for new weapons, along with possibly R / M / E weapons?
Yes, if they do it right and make them look nice.
No, they will get in the way or for other reasons.
I don't care as long as they include an option to disable them.

How about fixing masks on the bald character model so that they don't look like they're just floating on your face instead.
I'd also settle for SE making Goro be the concept for a new job.

Somewhat unrelated, but I had always hoped SE would make "straps" for hand-to-hand to give an extra bonus. It has bothered me for years that we get nothing in that sub slot in our equipment grid.

I'd love to see shields on the character's back. There was some artwork on here not too long ago that had an Ochain on the PLD's back and it looked purdy awesome.

IMO, it would be stupid to make sheaths for the current weapons (not to mention, unnecessary) and just leave ranged ones the way they are.

It worries me that there is a laundry list of things that need to be done and fixed as far as gameplay mechanics and other aspects go, and they're considering something strictly superficial, that claim would "take up lots of time". It's almost insulting or insinuating that they simply don't take development of this game very seriously.

Even if it comes down to giving a compromise, I think something really cool would be an option for Rangers and Corsairs to switch between main weapon(s) and ranged weapons in idle attack stance, so it doesn't appear totally redundant to put away your gun/bow and pull it back out every couple of seconds.
The daggers/swords/staff/whatever could just be automatic damage but not visible during battle animation depending on your setting.
