Bit of a read, sorry about that, too long? Short form FFXI update won't work/very slow.

Over the last few days I’ve built my first computer in a pretty long time, since then I’ve come in to too many problems to count. I use to be pretty good with computers when I was younger, but since then I’ve fallen out of touch with most things electronic.
The most pressing problem I have right now is for the last three days I’ve been trying to get FFXI installed and ran into more problems than solutions and I’ve exhausted every effort trying to get it working.
Right now, I have update for FFXI running, but it’s been sitting at 2% for three hours now, it is moving but very slowly. When the “time remaining” in the bottom right does show a time its normally something like 10 or 14 hours, but most of the time it stays as unknown. Please keep this in mind; this is stage one, preparation.

I’m running Windows 7, I do have the US POL client from the FFXI website, I made sure not to install or update the POL client while installing FFXI, I downloaded only FFXI, none of the expansions yet from the “Final Fantasy XI Online Ultimate Collection” disk.

Additional things to note, I've been having trouble with the computer quite a bit. I won't go exactly into detail unless certain things sound like they could influence my issue.

I've tried countless old forums, and other outless of troubleshooting help. I am sorry if this is a repost of anything but I really haven't seen anything that feels like this situation.

My newegg 'wishlist' everything that is on this list is in or attached to my build.

I can provide any additional information. Just want to play ;_;

You might consider manually updating the game.

Also, it's Windows. A small sector of bad RAM can cause blue screens, program crashes, bad installs... whatever problems you're having just MIGHT be related even if they don't look it.

You could try just downloading all the version updates and manually installing them, might help? Think you can dl them all from BG here http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/99953-All-Final-Fantasy-XI-PC-Updates-amp-PS2-Disc-Backups

Just read something that gave me a question, I run Windows 7 64 bit, I have one HDD and one SSD, my SSD I want to use for things like my OS, drivers etc. So I'm trying to install FFXI onto my HDD, I noticed someone mentioning having the file location "\Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix". I created the file location I wanted the files to go, would this have any effect on the game install/update? To me it dosn't seem so, but this is like the fourth day I've ever used windows 7 so i'm in the learning curve.
