Ok, 13 wasn't a bad FF game, there are much worse, but certainly wasn't the best.

I'd say 7,9,12

I'm not counting 11 cause it's not really a FF game imo...

How's 11 not really a FF? I'd consider more FF than a lot of the newer ones, just in my opinion. We have airships, an emphasis on the elemental magicite(elements were a big deal in the early games), we got white mages, red mages, black mages, warriors, monks, etc etc. Even moogles!

Maybe it's the multiplayer thing, but 11 has a pretty deep story going on, even if it is buried in some pretty serious walls o' text.

And technically, FF6 had "multiplayer," lol.

Six, Tactics, and Four.

Six had a strong story and the array of usable characters was fun. The multi party system was innovative too.

Tactics's battle system was and still is quite awesome. So many details were thrown into the flow of battle. If certain setups weren't so overpowered I'd have loved to see a PvP option to it.

Four, I'm a sucker for a good story. Four started rather simplistic but it was full of yummy plot twists. The battle system a little stale but it got the job done. Tali-Ho!

1.) 13 (I was more in love with the characters and the environment was excellent!) Oh really? I don't care you haterz!!

2.) 11 (CoP, BEST STORYLINE EVER!)

3.) 12 (It reminds me of 11 because of the gameplay and you can freeroam all you want and do extra things even after the end boss)

I dislike it, it doesn't mean I hate it :/
Since you mentioned Environment I too, have a say to that.
I feel that the game has REALLLLLLY good graphics, however if you don't get to actually explore through it, it's just like sightseeing and leave, since half the time you don't even need to be in a zone for over 1 hour, and the map is linear enough so you basically zone from point A to point B without making a lot of turn.... like the part where Sazh and Vanille were at (in chapter 8 or 9 can't remember), that place looks awesome, but I was there for 20 min only, wtf?

Cid? Check.
Airship? Check.
Wedge & Biggs? Nope.
Holy and Meteor? Check.
Buhamut? Check.
Nobuo's music? Nope.
Game turning "Ultima Weapon"? Check.
Storyline about saving the world? Check.
Crystals? Check.
Fanboy still raving about the game up to date? Check.

8/10 of a FF is still FF.

Derp aside, how's it not traditional? The game has it's own story, it's own setting, it has a multitude of notable NPC's (Shantotto anyone?), so enlighten me, how is it not actually a "traditional" Final Fantasy game then? It's not single-player?

If it's nothing more than just a gut feeling or something like that, I can understand. But if you've got some technical reason separating this game from the others, aside from needing an internet connection, I'd love to hear it.

Not trying to fight, I'm just genuinely curious.

Easy list for me.

Final Fantasy IX. One of my top games period, up there with Morrowind, Mass Effect and Bioshock.

Final Fantasy XI: Chains of Promathia. Assuming you did it when it was new (Before all the solo-friendly content nerfs) CoP succeeded on the promise of making Final Fantasy XI an Online Final Fantasy experience. Outside of CoP I don't really consider XI part of the "Clique".

Final Fantasy XII: Though it kind of meanders off towards the end, Final Fantasy XII had a great blend of character-driven plot, distraction based gameplay and character growth systems. Gameplay-wise, it was easily my favorite, but the pacing really threw off topping even FFXI.

Honorable mention: FFVII. It's just as cliche to call FFVII overrated as it is to call it amazing. Frankly, I hated the materia system, but FFVII's memorable atmosphere and remarkable plot overshadow that hate by far.

I dont get why people think ffxi isnt a real ff game. Its got all the elements that make an ff game and it has 3 epic storylines CoP ToAU and WoTG. Personally it is the last great ff game xii was good but not as good as xi. Just wish xi had ultima as a summon.

And that goal... Is grinding xp.

I kind, I kid. CoP definitely felt like the most "traditional FF" part of XI, story-wise.

I kicked it out just so I could talk about the general ol console games because they have a beginning, middle and end..theres no changing it..so you can talk about everything you liked and disliked. Where as FFXI is ever changing and evolving. I just didnt want to waste my 3 spots filling it with ffxi expansions..though I love them.

I loved 11 as well. CoP was the most daunting experience in my gaming career.

The best part of CoP was the fact when you went into a mission BCNM you had this anxiousness from the score and this unnerving feeling that you have a 90% chance of losing multiple times lol. It was fantastic now all of that is abolished but it's fair in my opinion since I know anyone who did CoP back in the day wouldn't want to help others or before the gear scaling down update having the level capped gear to participate.

Nobuo was not employed by SE during the making of music for FFXI, and since the music isn't HEAVILY influenced by him, I never really considered that the music of FFXI is made by him, well not a major part of it anyway. :/

FFT > FFT > FFT After all these years and 4-5 playthroughs I can still play it anytime and not get bored at all...actually, brb launching the emulator :p

But seriously if i had to pick my top 3, it would be FFT > FF10 > FF8

FF10's ending is so touching T_T Good action, good story and romance and also the best mini game in FF history ever imo... The romance aspect of the game was really very well thought that they even made a second game based on Yuna's search for Tidus to see him once more.

I admit FF8's story is lacking (not to mention the speculations over Ultima and Rinoa) but still I liked the romance (both Squall/Rinoa and Laguna/Julia) and the great soundtrack "Eyes on me" (which is written from Julia's mouth about Laguna) was the icing on the cake. The story wasn't really that bad imo, also junction system was nice.

FFT? All I can say is; <3 <3 <3

well ffxi got killed for me really the most when cop cap was removed and when the 6 add ons where added and the changes to partying removing more or less 6 man party's all together.sad thing is no matter the changes i still came back for the fact i love this game. i also looked at it like this i am going to give the changes a chance.

wait my question is do they have ending credits at the end of all the story lines i only am done with city story line so far i used to not be able to find people for the cop mission i was on and now i do not want 2 really do it. it seems like there is no fun in going as a pld and soloing,i want the hard caped fights back so that the fun of the story lines and it feels like u worked hard to get done can come back

1). FFT -> For damn-near infinate replayability on how you build your team. Plus, when you play it as young as I was the first time, you need multiple play-throughs just to understand the story >.>

2). IX -> Everything was perfect about this game, but if I had to choose one specific feature it would be the ending, hands down.

3). IV -> My first FF ever, which single-handedly influenced my preferred game genre for the rest of my life.

and the music! I know poor Nobuo deserves to have a happy retirement but part of the FF series is great music...we've not had memorable music in any of the recent FFs. I don't know who they've hired now, but it is not my taste or style. FF13 and 12 could have really benefited from a good instrumental or ballad. 8 was not my favorite FF game ever but boy did it have the best video game song ever that was Eyes on Me. Imagine how much better 13 would have seemed if it didn't have that annoying out-of-place jazz crap.

Final Fantasy XIII had great music imo. The music was different, but still awesome. For example, Blinded by light, Dust to Dust, and Desperate Struggle to name a few good songs. Some of the jazz songs weren't my favorites, but there were many more songs that I liked than disliked.
