Wondering Which Abyssea Nms Are Soloable

Hey guys, I couldn't fit the whole topic title I wanted to, but basically I'm wondering which abyssea nms are soloable without having pdt- gear, I'm working on it, but I have stuff like mirke with crit rate/dbl attk +/ ferine necklace/ moepapa stone/ ferine backpiece/ regain axe for pet, so I'm not completely devoid of pet gear, just not at the pdt axe x2/ Sheps chain/ etc point yet

I do have the DG atma, and RR/GH/MC/Apoc, and a decent amount of others, so I'm curious as to which tougher nms are viable solos with the gear I do have + atmas, and what are general nm-soloing-tips for a amateur bst?

MC/DG/RR could technically afk most of them regaurdless of -pdt or not. DY on air casting mobs, slug on iron giants, Falcorr for the rest.

Elu is correct. I can solo most things on BST that I have seen 6 pepole wipe to. Been doing Ultha for a friends fangs and turul for a friends Loki. They can just afk while I fight.

If it cant 1 shot you its soloable.

Any NM is soloable, as long as you pack a brew.

However, there are a few NMs that are not soloable without a brew(idk why you'd want to solo NMs in abys other than for seals[rediculously time inefficient]).

NMs that come to mind are Rani, Raja, Azdaja, Apademak, Ogopogo(?), Maere(?), Pantokrator, Shinryu. Those are probably it, really. So pretty much any top-tier NM in Heroes zones.

Azdaja is soloable when you make the pet tank on it's butt if I am not mistaken.

I think you are referring to Alfard who is 100% soloable by tanking in it's butt because it locks him in to only serpentine tail (same with the KI hydra). I do mine on NIN/DNC solo or if my mom is on NIN/WAR with her WHM for speeds sake.

Maere and Raja are soloable. For Maere all you need to do is stand out of range of Nightmare. Once he starts casting it, run in hit him a few times and snarl and run back out. Rinse and repeat until dead. For Raja, you'll need your reward recast at 50-55 secs. I did Raja at 95 cap and it was a long fight. It took probably about an hour to kill him I was riding my reward timer pretty hard but only used 1 or 2 mulsums. The fight should be much easier now with monster trousers +2 and the level increase.

As for Rani, I believe its possible but I haven't personally done it. The times I've tried Rani the problem isn't keeping your pet alive, it's doing enough damage before he rages. After an hour his normal attacks and nukes start getting more powerful. Keeping your pet alive during this isn't too difficult. The problem is he starts getting an evasion boost. Eventually he'll be evasive enough where he'll heal more hp than you can take off. I can get him down to around 20% before he starts gaining hp and eventually give up and warp out.

Shinryu I'm unsure of. I think it's possible but the 30 minute time limit will be the barrier for this fight.

When it comes to Abyssea NM's it really comes down to;

1) Does the NM one shot your pet more than once every 4 mins?
2) Can you do enough damage before time runs out? (visitant time)

If you answered no to 1 and yes to 2 then you can solo the NM. NM's like Ironclad Triturator and Xibalba post doom nerf are extremely difficult or not possible to solo on bst.

To answer the original question. No you don't need -pdt gear on the majority of NM's in the vision and scars zones. The content is old enough where your pet's level difference and atma choice will mask any lack of gear you may or may not have.

The -pdt axes may be the easiest elemental trial weapon you can make. One weekend max and they're both done. Get those and you're pretty much set to do most of the NM solos listed in the BST Solo thread.

I'm not 100% sure about Maere's draw in mechanic. I've solo'ed him 5 or 6 times and I've never been drawn in before. I assumed it was just a single target draw-in. My pet is drawn in but I'm safe to move about normally. After nightmare run in hit it a few times, snarl and run back out of range. Your pet will be terrored so you're the one putting hate on him with your 2 axe swings. He doesn't usually use nightmare close enough that snarl won't be up.

Definitely. I did mine in a short (~2 hour) and then a long (~12 hour) session over a weekend. Some of the best time/reward investment of anything in FFXI.

Getting the PDT axes and the AMK helm (5% pet haste/10% -DT) will basically guarantee you a win on 95% of the stuff posted in the BST solo thread. Actually I've find that kill speed tends to be the thing that differentiates a competent BST from a crappy one. I'm pretty lazy so I usually duo with my wife's automaton, brings kill speed to where farming on our pet jobs makes sense. Also, Mounted Champion is something that I would rather not use. It's better on most fights to use a second damage atma- easier to control where pet HP is for Ducal Guard, and speeds up kills.

Nope Iike to melee some if it's safe. Plus got to feed your pet!!

Pantokrator is solo-able w/o a brew and the proof is in the pudding.I do have plans to do this again without Atmas or cruor buffs as RDM.
