Greetings!

Hey Ophannus, I wanted to share some feedback from Mizuki Ito in regards to treasure casket improvements. Similar to your suggestion, a player was asking for the treasure caskets found via FoV and GoV to be more like the ones found in Abyssea and be unlockable with keys.

Mizuki Ito »
In regards to treasure caskets, when we were creating the system for Abyssea treasure caskets, we had the idea that if this kind of system was accepted, it would be possible to apply the same rules to other treasure caskets.

There are currently ways such as the kupowers gained from Mog Tablets as well as effects from GoV that will grant increased treasure casket discovery rates, so if we were to follow the same line, we believe methods such as increasing the rate that beneficial hints are given or increasing the amount of hints given when entering numbers would also be possible.

Regardless of the adjustments we adopt, the treasure caskets found throughout Vana’diel are different from the system used for Abyssea treasure caskets and there are also a lot of areas where these are found, so while we cannot do this right away, we would definitely like to look into this.

Thank you for your suggestion and let us know if you have any additional feedback!

How about making the the equipment drops (crafting torques etc) more likely? Opening chests is already easy if you have half a brain.

funny thing is this sounds about right, but we have 1 thing we did not have years a go the official forums. i have found it helps to cut down on this time,i do not know why. but i think it may be the admins/mods/devs read most of what is on there forum.

easy depending on hints lol theres plenty of times you have very bad odds of guessing with the hints given

You don't always use the hint option when opening chests as sometimes you need to guess a number to help narrow it down on the second, third, or forth option, and play "higher or lower". Chests are easy enough most the time, just increase the drop rates so people aren't spending days on a +1 fishing torque that doesn't do a damn thing worth taking up inventory spots :P

another avatar gif post too!

How about toss out that *** guessing game and just let us open the god damn box by clicking on it just like LogWatch. I rather dealing with RNG on this than thinking that box I failed open must contain my god damn torque. F U SE!

If they can make the box open rates 100% and take a lot less effort I'd gladly take that over increased drop rates tbh. Worst thing ever is failing like 5 boxes in a row and just KNOWING that it had the item you wanted in them.

The only way I stayed sane while GoVing is by convincing myself that the RNG didn't decide on box contents until after I opened it.

the guessing game isn't too bad. It would be awesome though if they made it so you could peek inside like in abyssea so you could skip the crappy potions and such.

Yes, but then you really would KNOW if you screwed up a box with an item you wanted (or got repeated aggro to prevent you from opening a box within the time limit).

It is very frequent that even with perfect problem-solving logic you will never at any point have better than a 25% chance at guessing correctly, and also frequent that you will quickly lower your chances down to 10% or so by searching for more hints, so you are completely talking out of your *** here.

What they need to do is decrease the drop rate and fix the hint system, as they are doing. Preserve the rarity, but save people the frustration of routinely getting screwed over by redundant hints.

Someone needs to learn how to open these chests. If you're wasting 5/6 tries on hints. You're doing it wrong.

I guarantee that my opening technique is better than yours unless you are using some type of tool that does the problem-solving for you. It's a mathematical impossibility to have a good chance at opening a great many chests, and pretending otherwise just makes you look foolish to people who know the casket system.

To be clear, the problem is one of design, not of difficulty (And I would actually be happy if they made caskets more difficult, though I'm sure they'll just copy the gold pyxis system). It's a logic mini-game that you lose very frequently despite playing flawlessly. Introducing a large element of luck into a logic game frustrates players and is bad game design.

The "luck" (or lack of) on the pyxis minigame is where the hint is useless (variations of the very same hint) or too vague.

There's also the case where the person might not "catch" the logic on the phrase to act accordingly. (As not a native english person sometimes I mess stuff out lol) Anyway, it just requires you to play it seriously for a few times to get good at it. Anyone can do it.

Still, the logic that decides what hints are given is quite unbalanced and I bet there's some Tanaka factor on that... And particularly on FoV/GoV boxes.

The FoV/GoV item boxes are usually filled with stuff that is better (or more interesting) than Abby gold boxes so it's not really unfair that they force you to actually play the minigame... ;)

P.S.: I did not knew there were a tool to help with it... But hey use such a tool is kind of lazy, you know ... Use such tools all the time and your brain gonna rust ! XD

The only improvement that I would like to see is being able to peek into the box before doing anything. We all hate spending time opening a box only to find that all it has in it is a hi-potion +1 or copper ore.

Would it be better to know the box you just lost was what you were hunting?

Back when I actually cared enough to try GoV for items, I opened my chests ~90% of the time without using any programs to do the logic for me. Not sure what your issue is.

My issue is that I've done it recently enough to know that a ~90% figure is mathematically impossible.
