[Dev] Increasing the AH 7 Item Listing Cap
Anyone else remember when Playonline was used for promotion purposes of new upcoming titles like Final Fantasy IX, and let you download PDFs of the instruction manuals and other junk?
Carbuncle.Enuyasha said: » Bahamut.Jetackuu said: » that brings up an interesting question, will SE release a pol for windows 8 arm? Guess we'll see after the OS is out. real question is: where will windower be if they stop using PoLV? Quetzalcoatl.Xueye said: » Problem is, even if PS2 support was killed off, they can't just add new ***. They'd have to stop supporting PS2 and reoptimize their code. Honestly, the problem is that they coded for the PS2. If they coded for the PC, ***would be muuuuuuuuuuch different. meh I don't mind pol, I wish they wouldn't have abandoned it like they did, it had promise. As for the coding separately, not possible for a cross platform game not to mention it's entirely unreasonable from a monetary standpoint. Not the best example, but for anyone that has an original Squaresoft version of FFX, the promotional banner to load/start your game had the POL address in it lol. ![]() Bahamut.Jetackuu said: » looks pretty updated to me as it has all the add-ons... you haven't been able to get the ps2 version of the game in years, they really don't expect new players to start on it, but as I understand it a large portion of their JP playerbase plays on it. I don't see SE alienating loyal long time fans to satisfy the crying babies that *** who really know nothing of coding. And it very well may be that a large portion of their players remain on the PS2, especially in Japan, but they don't release that information to us. All we can go by is gossip and word of mouth and the fact that PS2 is still very popular in japan. They don't update PlayOnline's website. The only thing they have done in the past 3 years is add a new youtube video that doesn't even fit the websites design, create a link to the forums, and create an image to link customers to their main webpage so they can sign up for a free trial, find out more recent updates to the game that PlayOnline does not display, and sends customers to a PC only purchase. that's updating imo, what's wrong with it?
you want a reskin every 3 months? (who cares if it fits the design?) as a general rule of thumb, people are ignorant, and the wish to remain as such, telling them will serve no purpose. If people are ignorant as a rule of thumb then you would think that SE would catch on and give them their pretty bows and fancy colors. Go figure. I suppose they are ignorant too? xD

As a web developer, here's some insight: if the head of a website is not actively maintaining a website, it means they don't give a ***about you or their product. It means they don't want to deal with the work needed to update, to keep with current times, or to fix the clearly broken layout PoL suffers from. It's like saying "*** you, users, make do with this." Seriously. Quetzalcoatl.Xueye said: » Bahamut.Jetackuu said: » that's updating imo, what's wrong with it? you want a reskin every 3 months? FFXI's graphics aren't that bad. I really think they've aged quite well, in fact. It could do with a more powerful drawdistance and maybe some higher resolution textures for a few things (LIKE THE TILES IN FRONT OF THE RU LUDE MH AND MOG HOUSE CARPETS!!!!!!) but aside from that I'd be happy with UI improvements and some stability/performance enhancements for PC.
They don't have to drop PS2 support for the people who refuse to upgrade to a superior system, however it's about time that they let PC users move on and break the bondage of the PS2 tyrant. They're already sort of moving in this direction with the small UI enhancements that they've been putting out recently I suppose. Even if SE did a complete overhaul of FFXI, people would still complain. We'll never be happy! It's in our nature to never be satisfied.
FFXI doesn't need an overhaul though, I like that it doesn't require a good computer to play.
It needs new material, they already said they had some coming up after they finish the ToAU revamps. VW and ToAU + salvage and limbus upgrades are just all filler. My guess is they'll wait until oct to tell us more about it, and then we'll see it released in march of next year. That would be fun to have a new job(s) to play around with. Reminds me of the time when ToAU first came out and everyone was out playing COR/BLU/PUP. Seeing those BLU burns in Qufim Island back in the day was so much fun.
I really miss the levelling experience for BLU, and it pains me that I'll never be able to experience it again. I would argue that no job has the thrill of, every level or two, having a new toy to play around with and test, after first going out into the wild to learn it. Adding a new feeling like that into the game would be very refreshing, but alas, I doubt it'll ever happen. 20 jobs are already far too many, and a few are quite redundant as it is.

I have like 4 white belts or something like that, it's stupid xD But I think I would of loved BLU, going out and learning the new spells for those levels and not going back to leveling until I have all of them. I really think I would of enjoyed that very much. I could do that still if I tried and had some control of how I earn my levels, but then I'd have a bunch of useless spells that I would never use and would waste so much time getting them. Yes, I feel that spending a day or two to get level 99 then spending the time after to earn every spell is a waste of time rather than spending 6-8 months leveling blu casually learning all the spells along the way. I'm strange~ I'll always be an advocate of BLU being more of an experience to level than any other job, so taking the time to do it rather than burning to 99, tossing on pink gear and firmaments, and burning all of your "essential" spells will always be my recommendation and the only way I see as doing it right.
BLU/NIN and BLU/THF on real xp mobs and then soloing/duoing from 69~75 on imps in the mire, then solo capping my merits at the speed of a good bird party were the best experiences of my FFXI career. We're talking about the architecture having an overhaul, not the front end. You could fix this game without the users even knowing. Can PS3 slim play this game? i saw you can still download the PS2 emulator on it but does it work?
Phoenix.Bomber said: » Can PS3 slim play this game? i saw you can still download the PS2 emulator on it but does it work? iirc (Mariane don't shoot me if my memory doesn't serve me well) only the first 3 US models of the ps3 support ps2 games, and the third not as well as the first two. as for the web dev. stuff, there's no point in changing the layout of a functioning website, it doesn't need to be like youtube/facebook. they decided that the main way of outputting information will be different, and they added links to that, that's enough imo. and SE has never been known to please their fans, I mean look at the route they've been going for the past decade (*** our loyal fans we want to appeal to a larger base, who cares about the people who got us where we are.) I'd love it if we got more space on the AH, or if not that just more general space in mog houses, satchels etc. It wouldn't mean that I'd use my mule any less, I don't use her much atm anyway for selling things. I need more space on this game, I am a massive hoarder of items "just in case I need them one day" (bit like in real life!) even with gear in the porter moogles, and random bits sent to my mule I still need more space! Giving us an extra 3 slots on the AH and 10 slots in our inventory and other bags won't mean they lose money on mules, just means we can hold a) more gear and b) more junk.
Looking at all the posts about PS2 limitations and having to re-code the game if they got rid of it, would it be possible for them to re-code the game for PC, PS3 and 360 users so we can have all the nice things that we want, and just not change it for PS2 users yet still have us all play together? I don't know anything about coding so to me that seems like a logical solution. I don't know anything about coding so to me that seems like a logical solution. they could add a ps3 port, along with optimizing the code they already have, it's rather spaghetti right now, as like I said (I think in my wall-o-text) there's too many useless things in the game they could delete/change, and it would give them plenty of options to play with. If I was given another inventory to hold 80 slots that wasn't limited to only furnishings I would fill it up within 45 minutes.
It's true :\ If you're hoarding useless stuff like bounding boots and such, just drop them lol. Only way I can see anyone having inventory issues is if they have 10+ jobs that are well rounded with macro gear exc. All this gear you may "need some day", can probably be obtained relatively easy or is replaceable by now. Make proper sets and stick to them. I don't use any storage slips, I use just plain old mog sack to hold all my macro pieces, and my storage for all my af, and I have 6 well rounded geared jobs. As for the AH, why only 7 slots lol? Sometimes the stuff you're selling don't sell for days. Then we get stuck holding 10+ useless items in our inventory that we want to sell off, that's the real issue.
